Coulter attended the University of San Francisco and gradu- ated from San Mateo State College before graduating from Ambassador University (Ambassador College), Pasadena, California, with a BA in The- ology in 1964. He was ordained a minister of Jesus Christ in 1965 and pas- tored churches of God in the Pacific Northwest, the Mountain States, the greater Los Angeles area and Monterey, including the central coast area of California. Mr. Coulter completed advanced biblical and ministerial studies in 1972-75 under the Ambassador University Master’s Program. While completing these studies, he was encouraged by his professor of Koiné Greek to consider translating the books of the New Testament. For the next twenty years, Mr. Coulter diligently studied, continuing to expand his knowledge of Koiné Greek. While undertaking a verse-by- verse study of the books of the New Testament, he was moved to translate the New Testament into clear, easy-to-read English for contemporary read- ers—resulting in The New Testament In Its Original Order (now incorpo- rated into The Holy Bible In Its Original Order—A Faithful Version With Commentary). With a ministry now spanning more than 45 years, Fred Coulter has dedicated his life and talents to restoring original Christianity for today’s generation. Laying aside all traditions of men, he has preached the truth of the Scriptures as taught by Jesus Christ and the apostles—proclaiming Jesus as personal Savior for all. Since 1983, Mr. Coulter has been the president of the Christian Biblical Church of God, headquartered in Hollister, California. He has an active ministry that reaches all parts of the United States and Can- ada, with additional offices in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Ethiopia and Kenya. Each year over 600,000 people from around the world actively util- ize the church’s Web sites where they find timely, inspiring weekly sermons and in-depth verse-by-verse biblical study materials covering virtually all of Scripture (see www.cbcg.org and www.churchathome.org). Editor’s note: Author Fred R. Coulter has previously written extensively about Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection in A Harmony of the Gospels in Modern English—the Life of Jesus Christ. In this new book, however, Coulter covers the entire spectrum of the “appointed times” of Jesus the Messiah while incorporating new, unpublished material concerning the 70-week prophecy of Daniel nine and end-time prophecies of Revela- tion. It is truly a first-of-its-kind publication. i Acknowledgments We first acknowledge God the Father and Jesus Christ, and thank them for preserving the Holy Bible—in spite of mankind’s tumultuous his- tory—so that today God’s truth is available for everyone. It is the very Word of God that gives us the true understanding of the purpose of human exis- tence. Jesus said, “Your Word is the truth” (John 17:17), and “you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free” (John 8:32). Primarily, I give my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to my lov- ing, dear wife, Dolores, for her personal encouragement and assistance. A special “thank you” goes to all the faithful brethren whose freewill tithes and offerings made this book possible. Through your spirit of giving, each of you have a special part in helping to preach and spread the Gospel of Je- sus Christ. Special thanks and congratulations go to Carl Franklin for his vital content contribution. His countless hours of in-depth research into the histo- ries and dynastic genealogies of the ancient Middle East (Persia and Baby- lon in particular) have been invaluable in understanding the writings of Daniel, Ezra and Nehemiah. Having dedicated a lifetime to studying Scrip- ture and ancient history, Carl has successfully harmonized the histories of the kings of Babylon, Media and Persia with the biblical books of Ezra, Ne- hemiah and I and II Chronicles. His full, detailed analysis is contained in Appendix C. Because of his work, it is now possible to correctly understand the mysterious 70-week prophecy of Daniel nine as it relates to God’s “appointed times.” Thanks also to Philip Neal for his editing, to Dwight Blevins for his research and writing in Appendix E, and to John and Hiedi Vogele for their proofreading and final formatting of the text. As with my other publi- cations, many people have helped and shared in the production of this book. Their diligent work and support has made it possible. Fred R. Coulter February 2012 ii Other Works by the Author The Holy Bible In Its Original Order—A Faithful Version With Commentary is a new translation that reflects the meaning of the original Hebrew and Greek with fidelity and accuracy—and is the only English version in which the books of the Bible are arranged in their original order. The easy-to-read translation retains the grace and grandeur of the King James Version while clarifying many of its problematic passages. Included are commentaries on the writing, canonization and preservation of the Scriptures. Various appendices cover numerous controversial biblical teachings, and detailed footnotes and marginal references explain hard-to- understand passages. A vital tool for all students of the Bible! See www.restoringtheoriginalbible.com. A Harmony of the Gospels in Modern English brings to life the message and purpose of the true Jesus, portraying His life and ministry in their true historical setting. This easy-to-understand, step-by-step account of the life of Christ is an indispensable study aid for every Bible student. The Christian Passover details the scriptural and historical truths of the Passover in both the Old and New Testaments, leading the reader step- by-step through every aspect of one of the most vital and fundamental teach- ings revealed in the Bible. With over 500 pages, the book fully explains the meaning of the Christian Passover—a remembrance of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Passover Lamb of God—in a most compelling and inspiring manner. The full meaning of the body and blood of Jesus Christ is revealed, showing the magnitude of God’s love for every person. The Day Jesus the Christ Died—the Biblical Truth about His Pas- sion, Crucifixion and Resurrection is the only book to present “the rest of the story”—left out by Mel Gibson in his epic movie “The Passion of the Christ.” Without the true historical and biblical facts, one cannot fully un- derstand the meaning of Jesus Christ’s horrific, humiliating and gruesome death by beating, scourging and crucifixion. The author presents the full biblical account in a most compelling way. As you will see, the truth is more astounding than all of the ideas, superstitions and traditions of men! The Seven General Epistles is designed for an in-depth verse-by- verse study of the epistles of James; I and II Peter; I, II and III John and Jude. As part of the living Word of God, these epistles are as meaningful today for personal Christian growth as when they were written. Occult Holidays or God’s Holy Days—Which? For centuries the leaders of Orthodox Christendom have sold popular holidays—Halloween, Christmas, Easter, etc.—to the masses as though they had “Christian” mean- ing. This book effectively demonstrates that these celebrated holidays are not of God, but originated from ancient religions rooted in occultism. Con- trary to the false ideas of men, the true biblical holy days of God have vital spiritual meaning and outline God’s fantastic plan of salvation for all man- kind. iii Other Works by the Author God’s Plan for Mankind Revealed by His Sabbath and Holy Days. This first-of-its-kind, 598-page work provides a comprehensive look at God’s amazing Master Plan for the human family—precisely as it is out- lined by the biblical seventh-day Sabbath and annual holy days.

  • Once More the Nabonidus Chronicle (Bm 35382) and Cyrus' Campaign In
doi: 10.2143/AWE.18.0.3287212 AWE 18 (2019) 153-176 ONCE MORE THE NABONIDUS CHRONICLE (BM 35382) AND CYRUS’ CAMPAIGN IN 547 BC ROBERT ROLLINGER AND ANGELIKA KELLNER* Abstract This paper sheds new light on the hotly debated question of which country Cyrus attacked in 547 BC, therefore dealing once more with the broken toponym of the Nabonidus Chronicle obv. ii 16. The reading of the sign(s) has been highly influenced by later classical sources, which place Croesus’ defeat against Cyrus somewhere around the corresponding year 547 BC. A collation has made it clear that no reliable reading can be inferred with absolute certainty. Instead of placing a cornerstone of Anatolian and early Persian-Teispid history exclusively on this ambiguous evidence, a new approach to this vexed topic is suggested. The contextualisation of the whole text passage leads to the conclusion that the region of Urartu depicts the most convincing hypothesis so far. Introduction After more than 100 years of intense debate on how to interpret the partly broken toponym in line obv. ii 16 of the so-called Nabonidus Chronicle (BM 35382), some very recent publications claim to have finally solved the problem by being able to definitely ‘read’ and identify the country that was the object of Cyrus’ campaign in Nabonidus’ ninth year, i.e. 547 BC. Since the debate and the various ‘identifica- tions’ of the toponym have considerable repercussions on the question of how to reconstruct Anatolian and early Persian-Teispid history in the middle and second half of the 6th century BC, it is of utmost importance to clarify what we definitely know and what we do not know with certainty, to highlight the borderline between ‘reading’ and ‘interpreting’ and to make apparent the premises of our reconstruc- tions.

  • Future Israel
1 FUTURE ISRAEL Why Christian Anti-Judaism Must be Challenged “Do not be arrogant toward the branches” Romans 11:18 by Barry E. Horner 2 Copyright Barry E. Horner 2006 3 FORWORD To be perfectly blunt: I must say the Christians have robbed the Jews! And perhaps what is worse is that this thievery has been encouraged by theologians, pastors, and even Sunday School teachers, where small children are taught to sing the song, "Every promise in the book is mine, every chapter, every verse, every line. ." Every promise in the Scripture in some way benefits Christians, but it's not all promised to Christians. Sometimes the thievery has been inadvertent and as unintentional. Its like thinking that the raincoat hanging in the office closet is yours for wearing home because of unexpected showers. Hopefully, you will discover the raincoat belongs to a fellow worker and you will restore it. It is not as if Christians do not have the greatest promise of God, which is I John 2:25, ”And this is the promise that He hath promised us, even eternal life”. Barry Horner is a theologian who furnishes evidence of this identity theft and the false claim that the Church inherited all the promises of Israel. Not only that, he demonstrates how that by restoring the election of God or chosen-ness to the Jewish people, the Church is even more blessed. He shows that the Jewish People are present historical evidence of the Bible’s complete trustworthiness. Every living Jewish person, no matter what he believes, no matter what he observes, no matter whether or not he cares, is evidence that the God of the Bible is, and He keeps His Word.

The Old Testament in its Context: 5 Judah, Exile and Return by K A Kitchen Lecturer in the School of Archaeology and Oriental Studies, Liverpool University [p. 1] We present a further instalment of Mr Kitchen's outline-appreciation of the Old Testament. The series will be concluded with a general survey of 'profiles and perspectives' in our next issue. JUDAH ALONE AND BABYLONIAN EXILE, c. 640-539 BC 1. Historical outlines and background a. Josiah, c. 640-609 BC. This king is most famed for his attempts at religious reform (2 Ki. 22-23; 2 Ch. 34-35), when a 'book of the law' was found.1 The new XXVIth Dynasty in Egypt began as an Assyrian vassal, but became Assyria's ally (out of self-interest) against Babylon and Media. In 609 BC, Necho II thus marched to Assyria's aid. Josiah saw his chance to bring down Assyria by hindering the pharaoh, but paid for his effort with his life (2 Ki. 23: 28-29; 2 Ch. 35: 20-24). And in 609/8, the shrunken Assyrian realm vanished forever,2 leaving Babylon master. b. Decline and fall of Judah, 609-582 BC. In 605 BC, the Babylonians decisively defeated Necho II of Egypt, claiming Syria-Palestine (cf. 2 Ki. 24: 1, 7), taking hostages (Dn. 1: 1-7); at this time, Nebuchadnezzar II became king of Babylon.3 Babylon was less successful against Egypt in 601, and Jehoiakim foolishly rebelled against Babylon (2 Ki. 24: 1). After siege, Jerusalem capitulated in March 597 BC; young Jehoiachin and many Judaeans were carried off to Babylon (2 Ki.

  • The Elephantine Stela of Amasis: Some Problems and Prospects of Study
THE ELEPHANTINE STELA OF AMASIS: SOME PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS OF STUDY IVAN A. LADYNIN (Moscow, Russia) The so-called Elephantine Stela (a convenient denotation used, for instance, in [Leahy 1988: 189 ff.]) of Pharaoh Amasis has been signalled for the first time in its brief publication by G. Daressy ([1900]; Cairo Museum 849 – check PM IV 73, with reference to [Maspero 1914: 198]; cf. [Posener 1934: 143, n. 6]; now, according to Dr. Osama Abd el- Maguid, head of the Nubian Museum, Assuan, Egypt, whose information reached me with courtesy of Dr. Dan’el Kahn of the Haifa University, Izrael, the stela is the outdoor exhibit of the Museum). This publication gave a hieroglyphic transcription and a translation of the text, both of them, according to Daressy himself [1900: 1], preliminary and rather approximate. Since then the transcription and the translation of the source have become subjects to a number of emendations (BAR4 IV 509-512, §§ 996-1007, [Posener 1934: 148]; Posener 1947: 129; Edel 1978: 13-20; Spalinger 1982: 18, 59, 108-109 and n. 40, 111 – col. 2; 77, 82 – col. 11; 80 – col. 12; 18, 54, 69 – col. 14; 40 – col. 18], the most important of them touching the datings found in cols. 1 and 14 of the text (see in some more details below). The most far-fetching corrections were suggested by E. Edel: as he made it clear himself [Edel 1978: 13], he prepared a detailed collation of the Stela and, perhaps, contemplated a possibility of its overall publication. This intention has never been realised and the Elephantine Stela has not yet been given a wholesome publication.

SOUTH GEORGIA ADVOCATE – MAY 4 EDITION Bishop Bryan announces retirement In a heartfelt video, Bishop R. Lawson Bryan, episcopal leader of the South Georgia Area of The United Methodist Church, announced his intent to retire, effective Sept. 1, 2021. “It has been a great joy, and I thank you for the willingness you have had for us to be in ministry together. We are greatly blessed by the South Georgia Conference,” he said in the video. “In every way, this Conference is ready, not only for today, but even for tomorrow, because we are being Alive Together in Christ.” Elected bishop July 14, 2016, at the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference’s quadrennial meeting at Lake Junaluska, N.C., Bishop Bryan began serving as South Georgia’s resident bishop on Sept. 1, 2016. No decision has yet been made about who will succeed Bishop Bryan as South Georgia’s episcopal leader. The Southeastern Jurisdiction (SEJ) Committee on Episcopacy and the College of Bishops are working together on a plan for coverage that will consider recommendations from Bishop Bryan and South Georgia’s members of the Committee on Episcopacy. In his announcement to the Conference, Bishop Bryan expressed his desire to spend more time with his family. “Through this intentional process, I have discerned with clarity that it is time for me to turn my full attention to my family,” he said. “I began seminary 50 years ago. Since that time, our lives have been shaped by appointments, moves, and denominational matters. I have no regrets. What I do have, though, is confirmation that now is the time for me to focus my energies more directly on those whose love has sustained me.” During his five years serving the South Georgia Conference - four years plus an additional year due to the postponement of the 2020 General Conference and Jurisdictional Conference because of the coronavirus pandemic - Bishop Bryan has focused on finding fresh ways to be alive together in collaborative leadership.
