DELTA OMEGA CHAPTER BYLAWS

The Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Gamma Nu is a of united, committed, and loyal friends dedicated to exceeding the expectations of its members and alumni for a professional fraternity based on tradition, brotherhood, and pride.

Article 1. Name

Section 1.01 The name of this chapter shall be officially known as the Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Gamma Nu at the University of Pittsburgh.

Article 2. Objectives and Purpose

Section 2.01 The objectives of this professional fraternity shall be:

1) To foster the study of business among all university students within or outside the College of Business Administration and to promote professionalism throughout our organization;

2) To uphold the interest of our Alma Mater through the encouragement of high scholarship, participation in school activities, and the mutual advancement of social welfare;

3) To promote professional competency and understanding of global perspectives in business;

4) To further a high standard of commercial ethics and culture in civic and professional enterprises.

Article 3. Vision

Section 3.01 To this end, the Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Gamma Nu will strive to:

1) Provide students with the framework for group participation in campus, community, professional, and fraternity affairs;

2) Serve as a medium through which students with common professional interests can develop lasting relationships among themselves as well as with practicing professionals;

3) Encourage programs that stress the importance of high professional ethics, leadership standards, and exemplary practices;

4) Conduct extensive programs of speakers, tours, trips, forums, seminars, service projects, and research projects designed to broaden the professional experience of its members and the community;

5) Maintain an extensive alumni network aimed at providing members with future internship and employment opportunities. 4

Article 4. Official Insignia

Section 4.01 Membership Badge. The membership badge must be obtained by the ​ chapter for every initiate at the time of initiation. The badge may be of such kind and design as may be approved by the National Council.

Section 4.02 Official Badge. The official badge of this fraternity shall consist of the Greek ​ Letters Phi, Gamma, and Nu encircled by pearls and having one ruby in the corner of the Gamma. The significance of the emblems, the ruby, and pearls, shall be exemplified in the Ritual.

Section 4.03 New Member Pins. The official pin shall be a true shield of cardinal red and ​ gold.

Section 4.04 Coat of Arms. The official coat of arms of this fraternity shall be designated ​ in the Ritual.

Section 4.05 Colors. The official colors of this fraternity shall be cardinal red and gold. ​

Section 4.06 Flower. The official flower of this fraternity shall be the red rose. ​

Section 4.07 Jewel. The official jewel of this fraternity shall be the ruby. ​

Section 4.08 Banner. The official banner of this fraternity shall be a reproduction of the ​ official coat of arms in colors on a field of red with the letters and crest of Phi Gamma Nu. The size of the banner shall be determined by the national council.

Section 4.09 Other Official Insignia. Other official insignia of this fraternity shall be the ​ Past President’s Crest, Recognition Pin, and Membership Certificates.

Section 4.10 Ownership of Insignia. All official insignia and symbols shall remain under ​ the control of the National Fraternity.

Article 5. Becoming a Member

Section 5.01 Qualifications for Membership.

1. Membership in Phi Gamma Nu is open to all full-time undergraduate students regardless of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or ability. 2. Prospective members must not be members of any other business fraternity in direct competition with this fraternity and they must be able to 5

attend all required weekly new member meetings to qualify for membership. i. 3. No undergraduates in their senior and/or final year of college will be approved for membership. 4. Members must maintain a 2.5/4.0 GPA to remain an active Delta Omega brother.

Section 5.02 New Members.

1. After a candidate for membership has been selected, the candidate shall be approached by the properly designated members of the chapter, who will inform the candidate of their invitation for membership.

2. Should the candidate accept, he/she will be initiated according to the pledge member ceremony of this fraternity. 3. Each pledge will go through a pledge process, no longer than a full semester, where they will be educated on the ways of the business world, the history and policies of Phi Gamma Nu and the Greek system as a whole. 4. Pledges will abide by the rules of the Pledge Manual as they go through the Pledge Process.

5. Each pledge shall be required to satisfactorily pass a national examination about the history, ideals, and values of Phi Gamma Nu before membership induction.

6. If after pledging the candidate should be proven unworthy of membership in Phi Gamma Nu, only prior to the written examination, the new member may be revoked by a 2/3 vote of members of the chapter. 7. As an incoming freshman, must have a 2.5 GPA through summer courses or by the end of the new member semester. If a 2.5 GPA is not achieved by the end of fall semester freshman year, this member will be put on an academic probation period for the course of the following semester. Standards board will then evaluate this member at the end of the semester and this member’s future position within the fraternity is under the discretion of Standards Board.

Section 5.03 Election to Membership.

A. Those applicants who have successfully completed the prescribed period of new membership, not exceeding one term, shall be eligible for election to membership in this fraternity.

B. All elections to membership in this fraternity shall be voted on by the active members in good standing at a regular meeting or at a special meeting called for this purpose, prior to the written new membership exam.

C. Two-thirds of all members in good standing present and voting is required for election to membership. 6

Section 5.04 New Membership and Recruitment.

A. Phi Gamma Nu Delta Omega will hold recruitment every Fall and Spring semester. Recruitment is a week long process, in which selections for membership are made based upon engagement and participation in events planned by the recruitment chair, along with formal final interviews at the conclusion of the week. B. Any and all new members will be given full disclosure during recruitment, including but not limited to the disclosure of:

1. New Membership Manual 2. Schedule of New Member Events and Activities 3. A list of responsibilities 4. A definition of personal rights and a copy of the University Anti-Hazing Regulations, prescribed by the Office of Campus Activities

C. All members, including but not limited to new members and recruits, reserve the right to refrain from participating in any activities without consequence based upon personal values, religious convictions, or moral reserve as defined by the member.

D. Any and all interaction/activity between new members and/or members will be limited to guidelines stated by university policy, as well as local, state, and federal laws.

Section 5.05 Initiation. To be eligible for induction a new member must: ​

A. Be in good standing in all aspects with the administration of the University of Pittsburgh;

B. Be paid up in all financial obligations of the chapter and the Fraternity;

C. Have been elected to membership by a two-thirds vote of all members in good standing, present, and voting;

D. Have passed the New Member Examination with a score of 80% or better. A new member receiving a lower score may take the exam a second time prior to the scheduled induction only if authorized by the New Member Educators due to extenuating circumstances.

Every member of this fraternity regardless of classification must be inducted according to the provisions of the Ritual of Phi Gamma Nu and shall take the entire oath of allegiance as provided therein.

Article 6. Membership

Section 6.01 Membership Requirements. After becoming an inducted brother of the ​ Delta Omega chapter of Phi Gamma Nu, a brother will be considered as 7

either an active or inactive member of the fraternity.

Membership Requirements as determined by the University of Pittsburgh. 1. Membership is open to currently enrolled Pitt students as defined herein. 2. All members must accept and comply with all of the requirements and limitations of registration as a condition of membership. 3. Membership in the Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Gamma Nu is voluntary and all risk of personal injury, property damage or other losses that occur incidental to membership or participation in activities are assumed solely by the student organization and/or individual member(s) or non-member participant(s). Accordingly, the University of Pittsburgh, its officers and agents shall not be responsible nor liable for any claims or causes of action for damage or loss of property or personal injury of any kind or nature which may arise out of or are incidental to the conduct of any organization’s activities or that of any individual’s participation in any group-related activity. it is further understood and agreed that it is the responsibility of the officers of the organization to assure that all of the organization’s members and non-member participants in all activities sponsored by the Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Gamma Nu are fully informed and advised of this ASSUMPTION OF RISK, and in the event any individual member or participant should express or indicate non-acceptance, the organization’s officers shall forbid participation and/or membership of such individual. In regard to the organization member or non-member participant Assumption of Risk, the Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Gamma Nu acknowledges that the University recommends that the organization members and non-member participants make every effort to arrange for the acquisition of liability insurance sufficient to protect all participants against those risks being assumed. For sport-related organizations, the University recommends that each individual have insurance sufficient to allow for any risks by participation, accident or by deficiencies in physical health. 4. No hazing or illegal discriminatory criteria for membership, including those listed in the University of Pittsburgh’s non-discrimination policy, will be used as a condition for membership in the organization. These factors include race, color, religion (except for religious organizations which may restrict 8

membership to those who share their faith-based beliefs), national origin, ancestry, sex (except same sex organizations permitted under Title IX), age, marital status, familial status, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, genetic information, disability or status as a veteran. This non-discriminatory policy will be applied in a manner consistent with the requirements of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution and other laws applicable to student organizations.

Membership Requirements as determined by Phi Gamma Nu Delta Omega.

1. A brother is considered an active member when financial obligations to the chapter and fraternity have been met; the member has met the criteria established by chapter bylaws defining good attendance; and has demonstrated support for all chapter activities as specified in chapter bylaws.

2. No member on academic probation with the University of Pittsburgh shall be considered any more a member in good standing.

3. Consequently, no student may be considered eligible for membership into the Brotherhood who is on academic probation.

4. Those members in bad standing shall not be permitted to receive a Little during the pledging term.

5. All rituals must be attended for a member to remain an active member. Rituals include the following: A. New Membership Ceremony B. Initiation Ceremony C. Installation of Officers D. Founder’s Day 6. Every active member must meet a minimum standard of involvement required by the chapter to avoid consequences. Involvement is determined on the basis of a point system for most events, but there are mandatory events as well which all brothers are required to attend.

Section 6.02 Active Members. The membership of this fraternity shall consist of those ​ persons (male or female) of good moral character who have been inducted into this fraternity by the procedure set out by the Delta Omega Chapter Bylaws.

Active Member Responsibilities

A. All active Collegiate Members are expected to assume the following responsibilities. 1. To attend every chapter meeting and function for which they are available. 9

2. To participate in membership recruitment to insure the stability of the chapter. 3. To strive to attain and maintain a strong academic record as part of a program for achieving professional success. 4. To be reliable and complete every task assigned. 5. To support chapter leaders. 6. To exercise the power of ballot in what is best for the chapter.

Active Member Rights

A. Only Collegiate Members in good standing as defined by the national bylaws and by these collegiate chapter bylaws are entitled to the rights of members below. 1. To have a voice in the business and programs of the Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Gamma Nu. 2. To be kept informed of chapter activities and messages from the National Fraternity. 3. To be represented and guided by competent leaders. 4. To express opinions, make suggestions and offer constructive criticism. 5. To vote and hold office in our chapter. B. The Delta Omega chapter Executive Board retains the right to decide on specific rights exclusive to the Delta Omega Chapter. These rights are earned by active members and include, but are not limited to, graduation cords, access to alumni, and the endorsement of Phi Gamma Nu Delta Omega.

Section 6.03 Inactive Members. Any active member, or member in good standing, of this ​ chapter may request inactive member status or, in the case they fall below the requirements of a good standing member, may automatically be considered inactive.

Inactive Responsibilities

A. Contacting the Chapter President or any member of Executive Board, who in turn will contact the President, as soon as the decision to request "inactive" status is made. This initial contact can be made by person, telephone, or mail. This communication must be made no later than TWO weeks after the first chapter meeting of the term.

B. Attending the next regularly scheduled Chapter meeting after having communicated the request, for the purpose of personally speaking with the Brothers about the request for going “inactive.” C. Paying the appropriate amount of National dues to the Treasurer.

Additional policies governing the “inactive” status of a member are: the right of going “inactive” will be extended to any member only once; exceptions include studying abroad, internships, or extenuating personal circumstances 10

for the duration of a term; and the eligibility to go “inactive” requires a 2/3 vote from all active members present of the Chapter.

Failing to meet any one of these responsibilities and policy guidelines will lead to one’s ineligibility for “inactive” status and a subsequent vote on membership will take place.

Inactive Rights

A. An inactive member does not have any right to vote under any circumstance during their Inactive semester. B. Inactive members are not eligible to have a little. C. Inactive members are not required to attend any mandatory fraternity events. D. The Executive Board holds the right to exclude inactive members from certain professional and social events. There will be events in which are a privilege to good standing Phi Gamma Nu members. E. Inactive members are not eligible to hold a position. 1. If any inactive member has been elected for a position before or during their inactive semester, that member must either forfeit their position or forfeit their right to go inactive. . In order to regain active status and to be held as a brother in good standing, an inactive must complete their required amount of points for the semester along with any points missed from the previous semester. If a brother is returning from inactive status after being excused or abroad/interning they will have no missed points to make up.

Section 6.04 Senior Status. Any active member in good standing who is in their fourth ​ year of undergraduate studies can claim Senior Status. This status should be seen as a reward for good standing members in their final year in Phi Gamma Nu.

Senior Status Responsibilities

A. Contacting the Secretary as soon as the decision to request “senior status” status is made. This initial contact can be made by person, telephone, or email. This communication must be made no later than the THIRD chapter meeting of the semester. B. Paying the appropriate amount of dues set forth by the Treasurer. As with any other member of Phi Gamma Nu Delta Omega, any member on senior status must follow the chapter dues procedures set forth in Article 12. C. In order to request senior status, chapter members must sign and date the Bylaw contract and return it to the Secretary no later than two weeks after the first chapter meeting of the semester.

Senior Status Policies

A. A member is only eligible to declare Senior Status if he/she has been active for at least one full semester. B. An active member in good standing requesting senior status must be ​ ​ within two semesters of graduating. C. The right of senior status shall only be extended for the duration of one semester. 1. The lone exception is as follows: Any active member in good standing who is in their fourth year of undergraduate studies may claim a second Senior Status semester in lieu of requesting an inactive semester. By claiming a second Senior Status semester, the member forfeits his or her rights to request inactive member status. If a member has already used his or her inactive semester, he or she is not eligible to request a second Senior Status semester. D. Senior Status members must still participate in all mandatory events specified in Section 6.01 E. E. Senior Status members must attend at least 50% of all regular Chapter meetings. F. Senior Status members may have a lesser minimum point value in order to be considered a good-standing member. The lesser value will be decided upon by the Executive Board.

Senior Status Rights

A. Senior Status members will be considered an active member with voting privileges subject to attendance at all pertinent discussing on said votes. B. If attendance is under question, the Vice-President may call a meeting with the senior status member and Standards Board. C. Senior Status members are allowed to receive a little. D. If any senior status member has been elected for a position before starting their senior status semester, that member must either forfeit their position or forfeit their right to go senior status.

Section 6.05 Medical Inactive. Medical Leave Inactive Status may be requested at any ​ time during the semester. Eligibility to go on Medical Leave Inactive Status requires a review by Standards Board. A member on Medical Leave Inactive Status shall have the privileges of a member on Senior Status, but the responsibilities of a member on regular inactive status.

Section 6.06 Charter Members. The charter members of this chapter shall consist of ​ those who became members upon the organization of this chapter.

Section 6.07 Alumni Affiliates.

A. Formally recognized National Alumni affiliates shall be those former 12

collegiate members in good standing who have duly joined an accredited alumni chapter or who have made payment of national dues.

B. Informally recognized local alumni affiliates shall be those who have graduated from the Delta Omega Chapter while in good standing at the University of Pittsburgh.

C. Any previous member of the Delta Omega Chapter pursuing graduate coursework who qualifies as an alumni affiliate shall be recognized as an alumni affiliate and not as a chapter member.

D. Alumni affiliates shall have no voting privileges or participation in chapter meetings.

Section 6.08 Honorary Affiliates.

A. Honorary affiliates shall be those individuals who have been duly elected by a collegiate chapter and have been approved by the National Council prior to initiation, but whom at the time of initiation, are not eligible for membership in any other classes.

B. Honorary affiliates have no power to vote and are exempt from both national and local dues.

Section 6.09 Faculty Advisor.

A. The University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administration requires each student group to have a single faculty advisor.

B. Such faculty advisor has no voting privileges, and is exempt from both national and local dues.

Section 6.10 Study Abroad and Co-ops. Any active member of this chapter who is ​ participating in a study abroad program or on a co-op semester will be considered inactive. These members must pay the appropriate amount of National dues to the Chapter Treasurer. The Chapter Treasurer shall be responsible for the collection of dues and has the authority to institute late fees in accordance with the Chapter policy.

Section 6.11 External Affiliates. External affiliates are considered persons affiliated to the ​ Delta Omega chapter of Phi Gamma Nu outside of the active member brotherhood, or persons who are not undergraduate students of the university who hold active status in the chapter. The relations between these affiliates are as defined in sections 6.07, 6.08, and 6.09.

Section 6.12 Termination of Membership

A. Voluntary Membership Termination. If someone wishes to remove him or herself from membership, he/she should alert the President and Vice President. A short meeting should then be arranged with the goal of reaching a mutual understanding between both parties about why the individual would like to terminate the membership. If the issue is fixable, 13

the President and Vice President should work with the individual towards a solution that does not involve termination, but if that is the only option then he/she can proceed with the process. After voluntary termination of membership, an individual will not have the option to rush another business fraternity.

B. Involuntary Membership Termination. An individual can have their membership terminated if he/she commits serious offenses in regards to these bylaws or other governing documents. If the Standards Board determines an individual should be removed from membership, then the individual in question will be given the option to appeal the ruling. For an appeal there will be a meeting held with the chapter present where people can present any relevant information related to the situation. The chapter will then take a vote with a two-thirds majority vote required for the dismissal of the individual.

Article 7. Officers

Section 7.01 Executive Officers. The executive officers of the Delta Omega Chapter shall ​ be: President, Senior Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Pledge Educator. These executive officers shall comprise the Executive Board.

Section 7.02 Executive Board Authority. The Executive Board shall have full power and ​ authority over the Delta Omega Chapter to conduct business, which is vital to the ongoing sustainability of the chapter and reach these said decisions in order to continue the viability of the chapter.

Section 7.03 Officers. The officers, also known as the Executive Committee, of the Delta ​ Omega shall be: Director of Professional Development, Director of Philanthropy, Director of Social Activities, Director of Alumni-Relations, Director of Fundraising, Assistant Pledge Educator, and the members of the Executive Board. These officers shall constitute the leadership of the chapter.

Section 7.04 Chapter Representation. The Chapter President shall be considered the ​ official representative of the fraternity. In case the President is unable to represent the fraternity, the Senior Vice President shall preside.

Section 7.05 Nomination of Officers.

A. Nominations shall be taken two weeks prior to elections.

B. Nominations of any interested active member must be seconded for approval in order to run for an office.

C. Any member wishing to run for an office may nominate him/herself, but must also be seconded.

Section 7.06 Election of Officers. Officers shall be elected by secret ballot by all active ​ members at a meeting held for that purpose. Officers shall hold office for a period of no less than one term, and no more than one year. Elections will be held in the start of the fall quarter as well as the start of the spring quarter.

Section 7.07 Vacancy.

A. If a vacancy occurs in the office of President, the Senior Vice President shall assume office for the remainder of the term.

B. In this case, the Secretary will assume Vice Presidential responsibilities, while maintaining the duties of the Secretary.

C. Any other vacancies in chapter offices shall be resolved through formal voting procedures.

Article 8. Duties of Officers

Section 8.01 Official Duties and Powers

A. Chapter President. The Chapter President shall be the Chief Executive ​ Officer of the chapter and the Official Representative as explained in the chapter bylaws; will preside at all Chapter and Executive Meetings; call regular and special meetings when considered necessary; enforce observance of the laws of the fraternity; conduct the Rituals of Phi Gamma Nu; be in charge of all external workings of the organization; provide motivation for members’ involvement; distribute communications from the National Headquarters as necessary; and ensure that outgoing officers train their successors. The Chapter President shall also be a de facto member of all chapter committees. As a de facto member of a chapter committee, the Chapter President has the same rights as other chapter committee members, but is not obligated to attend meetings of the chapter committees. The Chapter President shall additionally submit an annual report to National Headquarters. Furthermore, the Chapter President will ensure the operation of all activities, committees, and departments as defined by chapter bylaws and the President shall be a member of the Executive Board.

B. Senior Vice President. The Senior Vice President shall perform the ​ duties of the President in the absence or inability of the President to act, and should the office of President be vacated, the Vice President shall assume all powers and duties of the President until such time as the President can be replaced by nomination and election. The Senior Vice President will act to keep each position on the right track and is in charge of Founder’s Day Activities. The additional duties of the Senior Vice President shall be to help conduct the Rituals of Phi Gamma Nu; take charge of all internal workings of the organization; ensure the operation of the Executive Board and maintain a close working relationship with the 15

new member educators and new members; and take responsibility of all pertinent chapter information to be passed on to the next Senior Vice President. The Senior Vice President shall be a member of the Executive Board.

C. Treasurer. The Treasurer shall have custody of all financial affairs of the ​ chapter and will serve as the Co-Chair of the Finance Committee. It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to: remit to National Headquarters the national initiation fee for each member to be initiated and personnel record for each such initiate; remit to National Headquarters the national membership dues of each member of the chapter along with an adjusted list of all the membership of the chapter; submit a report to National Headquarters of new member initiation within 3 days of the new member ceremony; keep an accurate account of all chapter income and expenses; deposit and withdraw funds from the chapter’s account while keeping an accurate record of all cash and check disbursements; pay all bills promptly; prepare periodic reports of the chapter’s financial status; prepare the annual and term budget with the assistance of the financial affairs committee; release records promptly for presentation to the incoming treasurer; make reimbursement for authorized chapter expenses upon presentation of receipts for such expenses. The Treasurer has the power to request and revise committee budgets after close review and consideration at the beginning of each term, and shall make allocations accordingly. The Treasurer shall be a member of the Executive Board.

D. Secretary. The Secretary shall serve as a liaison between the Chapter ​ and National Headquarters. The responsibilities of the Secretary shall be as follows: to ensure effective communication between fraternity members; provide a statement of unfinished business to the President before Chapter meetings; take attendance at all Chapter meetings and mandatory fraternity activities providing an accurate record of the attendance and absences of each Chapter member; maintain and make available contact information for each Chapter member. The secretary shall manage the PGN Delta Omega Website and keep members up to date on the hours and events they accomplish each week. The Secretary shall also be responsible for notifying National Headquarters of names of chapter officers and ordering all chapter supplies and insignia. The Secretary shall be a member of the Executive Board.

E. Director of Professional Development. The Director of Professional ​ Development shall coordinate and oversee all professional events sponsored by the organization; solicit speakers and corporate representatives; ensure room reservation for all professional events; work in conjunction with the Director of Information Technology for publicity of professional events; contact corporations and plan for trips designed to 16

open employment and internship opportunities for members; compile a professional resume book of all the Brothers in the chapter to be distributed to firms, and to lead in the planning and execution of such events with the support of the Executive Board.

F. Director of Philanthropy. The Director of Philanthropy shall be ​ responsible for coordinating all community service projects for the fraternity. The director will also promote, publicize, and encourage chapter members to participate in philanthropic activities and will lead in the planning and execution of such events with the support of the Executive Board.

G. Director of Social Activities. The Director of Social Activities is ​ responsible for uniting the brothers in friendship through socials and maintaining a high level of morale in the fraternity. The Director shall be fully responsible for coordinating formal and will lead in the planning and execution of all social events with the support of the Executive Board.

H. Two New Member Educators. The New Member Educators are ​ responsible for the pledging and preparation of candidates for membership. It is the duty of the New Member Educators to guide the candidates through their new membership program and keep true to the principles of Phi Gamma Nu.

I. Director of Alumni-Relations. The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for keeping contact with Delta Omega Chapter alumni. It is the duty of the Director of Alumni-Relations to run the Alumni social media update accounts and invite alumni as speakers for professional development or guests for philanthropy and social events.

J. Director of Fundraising. The Director of Fundraising is to work alongside ​ the Treasurer to fundraise towards Chapter events or causes.

Section 8.02 Removal of Officer.

A. A Chapter may move to impeachment proceedings of any Officer by a 2/3 majority vote of all present active members in good standing and a 2/3 majority vote of the Executive Board.

B. A special meeting will be called for the impeachment of an Executive Officer with the Senior Vice President presiding. In case of impeachment involving the Senior Vice President, the Secretary shall preside.

C. Quorum for this meeting is 2/3 of General Business Voting Membership.

D. At the special meeting, an impeachment vote will occur after sufficient evidence has been presented and discussion has taken place. A 2/3 majority vote is required of all active chapter members in good standing to 17

remove the accused Executive Officer.

Section 8.03 Current Vacant Positions (Fall 2017) A. Standards. The Standards Chair is in charge of reviewing and editing bylaws to fit the current academic semester, enforcing the Delta Omega Chapter bylaws, auditing the Finance Committee, and taking necessary disciplinary action during a situation in which a member misconducts themselves. In the event that a Standards Chair is not appointed, the current standing Executive Board will fulfill the Standards Chair’s duties.

B. Director of Marketing. The Director of Marketing is responsible for the ​ branding of Phi Gamma Nu Delta Omega. The Director of Marketing is in charge of Delta Omega social media accounts including, but not limited to, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and the Delta Omega website. The Director of Marketing is also responsible for apparel design and sales to promote the fraternity.

C. Director of Recruitment. The Director of Recruitment shall plan and ​ execute recruitment week during the Fall and Spring academic semesters at the University of Pittsburgh. The Director of Recruitment shall coordinate with the Director of Marketing to promote rush events and apparel.

Article 9. Committees

Section 9.01 Standing Committees. All members of the fraternity in good standing are ​ required to join at least one standing committee. Committee assignments will take place by the 2nd chapter meeting of a term. Members will be assigned to ​ committees by the President during the selected chapter meeting. Standing Committees will be comprised of the following, with descriptions of their respective duties:

A. Professional Development. The Co-Chairs of Professional Development ​ shall be the Senior Vice President and the Director of Professional Development. All members of this committee are responsible for the planning of all professional activities of the chapter.

B. Philanthropy. The Co-Chairs of Philanthropy shall be the Secretary and ​ the Director of Philanthropy. All members of this committee are responsible for the execution and planning of community service activities.

C. Social. The Co-Chairs of Social shall be the Director of Alumni-Relations ​ 18

and the Director of Social Activities. All members of this committee are responsible for uniting the brothers in friendship through socials and maintaining a high level of morale in the fraternity. The committee will also be responsible for planning and coordinating the fall and spring formals.

D. Finance. The Co-Chairs of the Finance shall be the Treasurer and ​ Director of Fundraising. This committee will create fundraising events to raise money towards Chapter expenses and activities.

Section 9.02 Executive Board Committee. The Executive Board committee is comprised ​ of the President, Senior Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Pledge Educator. The Executive Board shall enforce the bylaws of the Delta Omega chapter as well as the attendance policy, new member and chapter behavior, new member reviews, dress policy, and other events not herein defined. Executive Board shall also be responsible for creating and maintain the future goals of the University of Pittsburgh chapter.

Section 9.03 Standards Board. In the event that discipline must be taken among a chapter ​ member, the Standards Board, consisting of the Standards Chair and Executive Board, will have the right to impose the best course of action in handling member misconduct.

Article 10. Election of Officers

Section 10.01 Elections. Elections will take place once every academic school year. They ​ will occur at the conclusion of the spring semester. It will be a two week process with nominations occurring during the first week and speeches and voting taking place the second week.

Section 10.02 Nominations. Brothers whom wish to run for a position must be nominated ​ upon and seconded. Brothers may nominate themselves and may be nominated for up to two positions.

Section 10.03 Results. Votes will be casted privately and quorum will decide the newly ​ elected officer.

Article 11. Voting

Section 11.01 Policy. Only active members in good standing shall be allowed to vote at all ​ regular, professional, and special meetings.

Section 11.02 Voting Options. Voters have the option to either vote “yes”, “no” or “abstain” ​ on a candidate. If they vote “yes” or “no”, their votes will be counted towards 19

the overall vote count and therefore impact the final vote percentages. If they vote to “abstain”, in their votes will not be counted in the particular election. In the event there is a tie, those who voted “abstain” will be asked to break the tie.

Section 11.03 Quorum. The percentage of membership needed for matters requiring a vote ​ is two-thirds.

Section 11.04 Officer Voting Power. The Officers of Phi Gamma Nu Delta Omega retain ​ the right to vote as they are also active members of the fraternity.

Article 12. Meetings

Section 12.01 Regular Meetings.

A. At least four chapter meetings shall be held each month during the academic year.

B. Regular meetings shall be held on a day as seen fit by the chapter. The Chapter President may change the meeting day at his/her discretion, of which Chapter must be notified in accordance to the policy of special meetings.

Section 12.02 Executive Board Meetings.

A. At least two executive committee meetings shall be held each month. Executive board meetings are subject to the call of the Chapter President who shall set appropriate meeting times and notify all members of the Executive Board of the said meeting.

B. The Chapter President shall have the authority to invite members of the Fraternity to any executive meeting as he/she sees fit.

Section 12.03 Special Meetings. Special meetings may be called by the President, or by ​ petition with ten members in good standing as sponsors. Once the petition has been received by the Chapter President, a special meeting must be called within three days. Chapter members shall be notified at least twenty-four hours in advance of such special meetings.

Article 13. Finances

Section 13.01 Chapter Dues. Local Delta Omega Chapter dues shall be a reasonable ​ amount as determined by the Executive Board prior to the second meeting of each academic term.

Active Member Dues $65 20

Pledge Dues $100

Section 13.02 National Dues. National dues are to be paid October 15 and February 15 of ​ each academic year by the Treasurer. Each member is responsible for his or her pro-rated share of semi-annual dues to remain in good standing.

Section 13.03 National Induction Fee. The National Induction fee is payable to National ​ Headquarters two weeks prior to the induction ceremony. The Treasurer is responsible for ensuring that the payment and proper paperwork are submitted on-time.

Section 13.04 Late Payments of Financial Obligations. In accordance with the ​ responsibility of all Phi Gamma Nu members to meet financial obligations promptly, the following shall be the official policy on late payments for all fraternity monetary requirements:

A. Any fraternity member who does not meet a financial obligation on the date it is due, having been given 14 days prior to notification of the requirement, shall be assessed a $10 per week penalty fee until the obligation is met. If a member is unable to meet such an obligation due to financial difficulties, it is his/her responsibility to notify the Treasurer no later than the day before the due date. Under these circumstances only will the penalty fee be waived. If, however, a member cannot meet a financial obligation and fails to notify the appropriate person before the due date, the member will be assessed a $10 per week penalty until such notification is given. Members who give notification of an inability to meet a financial obligation on the due date will be assessed a penalty of $5.

B. For this policy to be enforceable, fraternity members must be given 14 days-prior notification of a financial obligation. When proper notification is not given, the above penalty fee shall not go into effect until the 15th day ​ after the notification to discuss any difficulties in meeting the obligation without incurring a penalty. All other provisions shall remain the same.

Section 13.05 Fundraising. The Fundraising chair of Phi Gamma Nu Delta Omega is fully ​ responsible for creating events to help raise funds for the chapter. These funds will be used towards professional and social events. Fundraising for philanthropy will be the responsibility of the Philanthropy chair.

The Delta Omega chapter of Phi Gamma Nu shall fully comply with the University fundraising policies and procedures for registered student organizations.

General Bookkeeping

Section 13.06 Reimbursements. If individuals who are coordinating events spend their ​ personal money on chapter related expenses, they will be reimbursed if the expense is deemed appropriate by the Treasurer. Members should save their receipts and share them with the Vice President of Finance. After assessing the situation and ensuring all of the purchased materials are accounted for, the reimbursement will be paid in full from the account related to the expenses. Before spending money on PGN related expenses, individuals should check with the Treasurer about the likelihood of getting reimbursed for the potential expense.

Section 13.07 Financial Records. The Treasurer is expected to periodically update financial ​ records in a manner that is viewable to the entire chapter. These financial records should include general information about every transaction including a specific reasoning for expenses (i.e. $95.00 - Operations Expense, Balloons) as well as who the parties involved in the transaction were.

The organization will not maintain an outside bank account if it receives money from the Student Government Board.

Article 14. Discipline

Section 14.01 Attendance. All active members of the Delta Omega Chapter must adhere to ​ the attendance policy of Phi Gamma Nu as follows:

A. Excused Absences will consist of Tests, Review Sessions with TA's or Professors, Required Classes, Family Crisis, Illness, Extenuating Personal Circumstances, Information Sessions, and On-Site Interviews. To qualify as an excused absence, the member must notify the recording secretary or committee head 24 hours before the scheduled meeting.

B. Unexcused Absences will consist of those absences not covered by Excused Absences.

C. Required Activities include: Committee meetings and activities under the good-standing member clause.

D. Guidelines for Excused Absences 1. 1-3 excused absence(s) = No penalty 2. 4 or more excused absences = Meet with Executive Board

E. Guidelines for Unexcused Absences 1. 1-2 unexcused absence(s) = No penalty 2. 3 or more unexcused absences = Meet with Executive Board 3. 6 unexcused absences = Automatic loss of membership

Section 14.02 Penalties. Executive Board has the authority to meet with a new member or ​ chapter member in order to investigate an issue. At the meeting, the member in question will have the opportunity to defend him or herself. Executive Board shall have the ability to question the new member or member and any other 22

witnesses to discover the actual events.

Executive Board shall abide by the following Cumulative Punishment System when a decision has been reached:

(a) Level 1 = Reprimand ​ (b) Level 2 = Make-Up Activity or Fine ​ (c) Level 3 = Suspension of Privileges as deemed necessary ​ (d) Level 4 = Suspension of Representation ​ (e) Level 5 = Revocation of Membership ​ A Level 1 or 2 punishment can be prescribed by Executive Board without chapter’s approval. A Level 3, 4 or 5 punishment shall be recommended by Executive Board and approved at the next Chapter meeting with a 2/3 majority vote of all active members in good standing.

Section 14.03 Social Media. All members of the fraternity are expected to maintain a ​ professional presence on any public social media accounts they own and their posts. There is also an expectation that all matters handled privately within chapter will not be shared on social media.

Section 20.02 Publications Code. In compliance with the Publications Code for Student ​ Organizations, all publications of the organization will comply with current copywriter laws, be distributed according to policies and procedures, refrain from expressions that are considered obscene or libelous according to current statute, advocate or insight the material interference or physical disruption of the educational process of the peace, order and decorum of the campus, or that advocate of insight imminent, lawless action or the violent overthrow of the government and identify the organization as publisher and specify that the group is a registered student organization at the University of Pittsburgh.

Section 14.04 Sexual Harassment. It is the policy of the National Fraternity of Phi Gamma ​ Nu that unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other sexually offensive verbal or physical contact will not be condoned or permitted, and may in face be in violation of state and/or federal law. Nonconsensual sexual physical contact and similar acts are a crime, and you are required to immediately report any such incidents to the local law enforcement authorities in addition to the National Council of Phi Gamma Nu.

Section 14.05 Anti-Discrimination Policy. Phi Gamma Nu does not support any ​ discrimination on the bases of gender, race, sexual orientation or religion. If instances of discrimination occur, they will be taken seriously by the chapter’s leadership and could involve external parties.

Section 14.06 Zero-Tolerance Hazing Policy. Phi Gamma Nu employs a zero-tolerance ​ policy for hazing or any conduct whatsoever that violates university policy. 23

The tenet long held by the fraternity is that attaining a unified Brotherhood can only result from the development of programs that stress positive values. Thus, any and all forms of hazing are eliminated from the code of conduct of Phi Gamma Nu. In addition to the Phi Gamma Nu Zero-Tolerance Policy of hazing, the Delta Omega chapter also resides by the University of Pittsburgh’s own Anti-Hazing policy, which is found in the student handbook.

Section 14.07 Disciplinary Action. If an issue or incident is brought to the attention of ​ Standards Board or Executive Board in potential violation of a risk management policy, federal, state, or local laws or any other applicable policy related to member safety, then Standards Board and Executive Board will form a joint committee to take action. This committee will be comprised of the members of the two boards. The committee has the right to make a judgment and issue appropriate sanctions. An appeal may be made the National Fraternity or external bodies with applicable jurisdiction, but an appeal within the chapter will not be allowed.

If the issue is so serious that one or more committee members feel the committee is not properly trained to handle it appropriately, then a decision to handle the issue internally or to refer it to the National Fraternity will be made by the committee through a majority vote.

If an individual has information or allegations of potential violations of a risk management policy, federal, state, or local laws, or any other applicable policy related to member safety, then he/she should provide it to Standards Board directly, or to the National Fraternity by emailing [email protected]. ​

Article 15. Dress Code

Section 15.01 There are two categories of Professional Dress that members of the Delta Omega Chapter must adhere to depending on the formality of the occasion.

Section 15.02 Professional. Professional attire will be required for Induction, Initiation, and ​ any other occasion deemed appropriate by the Executive Board.

Section 15.03 Business Casual. Business Casual attire will be required for Founders’ Day, ​ Professional Development speakers, and any other occasion deemed appropriate by the Executive Board.

Section 15.04 Enforcement. The dress code is to be enforced by Executive Board. Any ​ member arriving at an event inappropriately dressed will be asked to leave and the member will be given an unexcused absence.

Article 16. Parliamentary Authority

Section 16.01 The Bylaws of the National Office of Phi Gamma Nu shall take precedence over the Bylaws of the Delta Omega Chapter.

Section 16.02 Copies of the Bylaws are available to any member upon request.

Article 17. Ratification

Section 17.01 If any changes within the constitution are seen fit and are voted on with a 2/3 ​ majority vote, changes to the constitution may be ratified.

Section 17.02 Quorum is required for any vote on ratification. ​

Section 17.03 Any changes must be recorded and an updated copy must be kept at all times ​ within the records of the chapter.

Section 17.04 Upon formal induction of the Delta Omega Chapter by the National Office of ​ Phi Gamma Nu, the constitution of the Delta Omega Chapter will be ratified by the National Office.

Article 18. Dissolution

Section 18.01 There will be no dissolution of the chapter, unless there are an insufficient number of active members to fulfill three out of the five Executive Board positions. Individual members have the right to personally quit the chapter at any time. However, the chapter's existence will remain unless there are an insufficient number of active members to fulfill three out of the five Executive Board positions. If at least three of these members exist and are willing to accept the responsibility of the chapter, they will be permitted to do so as long as they maintain and uphold the ideals of Phi Gamma Nu.

Article 19. Amendment of Bylaws

Section 19.01 The Bylaws may be amended at any special meeting called for that purpose.

Section 19.02 Introduction of an amendment will take place at the first meeting after it has been formulated.

Section 19.03 Quorum and majority are required for the passage of motions.

Section 19.04 Introduction of amendments must be given from active members who are in good standing. Passage is by a two-thirds vote after open discussion. 25

Section 19.05 Revision or addition to these Bylaws is under the responsibility of the President and Executive Board.

Section 19.06 These bylaws shall take effect immediately after passage.

Section 19.07 Executive Order. The president will have the authority to temporarily make additions through Executive Order. This should only be done when absolutely necessary if the fraternity is in a situation where going through standard bureaucracy to pass an amendment is an inappropriate time table.

Executive Order made by the President will last for the duration of the semester the order was announced, and there will be a vote at the beginning of the next semester to decide if the addition should become an amendment. If Standard Board feels the President is abusing their power through Executive Order then it reserves the right to initiate chapter vote of passing an Executive Order as an amendment immediately. Executive Orders cannot contradict anything written in these bylaws, rather they may only add to it.

Section 19.08 Amendments. All constitution additions, revisions and deletions must be ​ reported to the SORC.

Article 20. Organization Registration

The Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Gamma Nu and its membership accept and will fully comply with requirements and limitations of registration.

The Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Gamma Nu will submit its annual re-registration application during the re-registration period following the election of new officers.
