The mound was composed of laminated deposits of burnt stone. Charcoal and animal bone was recovered from the monument. Radiocarbon dating shows that the fulacht fiadh had its origin in two burnt stone spreads deposited in the late Neolithic/early Bronze Age. After a hiatus of c. 1000 years, the body of the mound developed in the 12th to 9th centuries BC.

A middle aged man named Tom Fitzgibbon, Tom Carroll, Jack McNamara and his two bro thers, Seán O'Keeffe, myself and a few others became members of the circle I was sworn in, but I cannot remember who administered the oath. A few meetings were held, but after a short time the circle ceased to meet, and eventually it fizzled out.

Within the enclosure, the foundations of a small building were revealed and analysis of the large quantity of iron slag in the structure indicates that it was a smithy. Also associated with the enclosure, were several elements of a large system of rectangular field boundaries.

Members expressed disappointment with Irish Water and how they are dealing with complaints and communication. They expressed gratitude to the staff from Clare County Council on the ground for their work in recent weeks especially after serious burst in the Shannon Municipal area. Members wanted the item retained on the agenda. 5. Road Works Programme The senior executive engineer briefed the members and outlined that surface dressing was substantially completed in early June, the road overlaying was currently out for tender, and repair of footpaths was ongoing in many areas.

In a family of nine I was the fourth child. My people were farmers. I left school at the age of fourteen or fifteen to help my mother in the working of the farm, my father having died when I was very young. A year or two later I got a job in the local post office as a postman and stayed in that position for a few years, when, owing to the emigration of my older brothers, I had to throw up the job to return home to work and manage the farm In 1911 I went into the employment of the McNamara Bros., building contractors, Crusheen, and from them learned the building trade. Their contracts were obtained throughout dare and Galway, with the result that in the years between 1911 and 1916 I worked a good deal away from home and made acquaintance with a number of men who afterwards became prominent in the movement for Irish independence.
