  • Daly Headlines Oasis Championship Field Joined by Fellow 2-Time Major Champ O'meara
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 16, 2019 Daly Headlines Oasis Championship Field Joined By Fellow 2-time Major Champ O’Meara BOCA RATON, Florida – John Daly, one of golf’s most charismatic players for the last quarter century, has been given a sponsor exemption into next month’s Oasis Championship at the Old Course at Broken Sound. Daly burst onto the golf scene in 1991 when he won the PGA Championship as the ninth alternate. Fans fell in love with Daly’s booming drives, his go-for-broke style and his rags-to-riches story. Daly added another major, the 1995 British Open, and won five PGA Tour events. He has won once on the PGA Tour Champions, the 2017 Insperity Invitational. “John remains one of the game’s most popular players and always draws a huge crowd to the Oasis Championship,” said tournament director Eddie Carbone. “We are thrilled to have him in our field.” Said Daly, “I always love coming to Boca Raton. It’s a course where I can play aggressively. I can reach most of the par-5s and there’s a par-4 (seventh hole) that’s very reachable.” Daly will be joined in the elite, 78-player field by a pair of two-time major champions, Hall of Famer Bernhard Langer of Boca Raton, who has won Player of the Year on the tour seven times; and Mark O’Meara, who will host the Monday Women’s Day Pro-Am. Already committed to the tour’s first full-field event of the season are defending champion Mark Calcavecchia, Hall of Famer Colin Montgomerie, former major champion Hal Sutton, Miguel Angel Jimenez, David Toms, Jesper Parnevik and past Oasis champions Scott McCarron (2017), Paul Goydos (2015), Rocco Mediate (2013) and Corey Pavin (2012).
