Normally, you’d find your president’s column in this space. But as you’ll see elsewhere in this issue of The Florida Green your president, John Curran, Florida G.C.S.A. has been in something of a different space himself recently. Curran, just 46, suffered a heart attack, a serious one, in September. Thankfully, he survived and is progressing well INDUSTRY in his return to full health. PARTNERS PROGRAM But here’s the thing. His all-too-near-death experience forced him to ask some questions, of himself, about his job, and what matters most in life. But Bayer Environmental Science when they know you have cancer yet don’t know exactly where it is and where it isn’t until they cut you open, let’s just say, it gives you pause. He looked like he’d used Numerator Technologies STATEWIDE FISHING CHALLENGE sandpaper for sunscreen. I admired another colleague of yours, who also shared his story in this magazine, of battling alcoholism that cost him a job. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 1, 2021 Contact: Mike Donila Abbey Harris 306-1177 cell 215-4579 office 705-1681 cell Mayor Jacobs to Donate Royal Rumble Appearance Fee to TCAT Knoxville Scholarship Fund KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—On Sunday, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs appeared as Kane at WWE’s Royal Rumble, which aired on the WWE Network. The organization doesn’t discuss contract details, but at the Mayor’s request will donate his earnings from the appearance directly to the Knox County Mayor’s Applied Technology Scholarship Fund for TCAT Knoxville. Earlier this year, Mayor Jacobs donated $5,000 of his salary to help start the scholarship, which benefits a Knox County employee’s child—including adoptive, biological, legal or step—who is a student at the school. The Royal Rumble took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, and featured the WWE’s virtual fan viewing experience dubbed ThunderDome. According to the company, the ThunderDome is a state-of-the-art set that uses video boards, pyrotechnics, lasers, cutting-edge graphics, and drone cameras to bring fans into the arena via live video for an unprecedented experience. At the event, Bianca Belair—Knoxville’s own Austin-East and University of Tennessee graduate Bianca Nicole Blair Crawford—won the Women’s Royal Rumble Match after battling a record- setting 57 minutes. She will go on to compete at WrestleMania in April. Mayor Jacobs received a COVID-19 rapid test before leaving for and upon arriving at the event. While there, he wore a CDC-recommended face covering and kept his distance from others while not performing.
