WALES AND IRELAND TRIP MAY 12 TO JUNE 4, 2009 What a coincidence! Meaningless, to be sure - but a coincidence, nonetheless. Our trip to the British Isles in 2009 began and ended one day earlier than our trip to Scotland, May 14 to June 5, 2001. (One can only hope that September of this year doesn't hold the same sort of unpleasant surprise that was visited upon us eight years ago.) OK, so I made a "small" error - we are departing two days earlier, not one. And, OK, so it wasn't much of a coincidence, was it? I mean, a real coincidence - one of excruciating consequence - occurred at the Polo Grounds in NYC on October 3, 1951 when Ralph Branca of the Blessed Brooklyn Dodgers was called in to pitch in the 9th inning and, by coincidence, Bobby Thomson of the Bestial New York Giants happened to come to bat, and, by coincidence, Mr. Branca happened to throw a pitch that the aforementioned Mr. Thomson happened to swing at, and, by coincidence, made contact with said pitch and drove it a miserable 309 feet into the first row of the left- field seats of the absurdly apportioned Polo Grounds, thus ending the Dodgers' season and causing a certain 12-year-old, watching on TV, in Brooklyn to burst into tears. Now that was a coincidence! But I digress. Tuesday, May 12 to Wednesday, May 13 Rather than leaving our car at the Seattle Airport Parking Garage (cost for three-plus weeks $468) or at an airport hotel (about $335) we decide to try the new Gig Harbor Taxi (at $95 each way, including tip).

  • Recording in Co. Wexford (H12) During 2010
RECORDING IN CO. WEXFORD (H12) DURING 2010 Paul R. Green, Yoletown, Ballycullane, New Ross, Co. Wexford E-mail: [email protected] 2010 has been a strange year as I was out of action for much of the first half of the year with a slipped disc. The second half of the year seemed to have made up for it with a good number of records. A total of 16,126 records were added to Mapmate the database I use to computerise all the counties records. The strangest thing of the year was seeing two plants of Ficaria verna subsp. verna (Bulbiferous Celendine) flowering on 22 August in a ditch at Kiltra (S85.10). I gave up the idea of filling in forms for Corn Marigolds for the Threatened Plants Projects, as 2010 seemed to be the year of the ‘Corn Marigold’ in Co. Wexford, as they were so common, turning many cultivated fields yellow. If I had been given a Euro for each Corn Marigold I saw I could have taken early retirement! DBN = cited specimens deposited in the National Herbarium, Glasnevin, Dublin. Besides myself the following have also contributed during the year: Dominic Berridge gave me a number of records including a report of Crassula helmsii (New Zealand Pigmyweed) from a Kettlehole at Ballyvalloo (T11.30) shown to him by the land owner Kevin Murphy and later to me, not a welcome addition to the county; Frankie Tennant and Roy Watson were the largest contributors during the year, sending in records from many parts of the county; besides coming out with me several times Jenny Seawright added Papaver pseudoorientale (Oriental Poppy) to the county list; Megan Morris did her year bird count at Caim (S90.40) and made a plant list including the first county record for Bromus hordeaceus subsp.

The 1916 Rising and County Wexford Introduction The 1916 Rising and County Wexford pack is an introduction to County Wexford’s contribution to the uprising of that year. It offers information on many aspects: causes and context, a timeline of events, the aftermath, profiles of some local leaders, the role of women, and arts and literature inspired by the Rising, among others. Extracts from original documents of the period - letters, newspaper accounts, and witness statements are included. The selection provides a flavour of life in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in Ireland and in County Wexford. It is intended to encourage and enable students to embark on further study. The pack includes references for all sources quoted and offers guidance to sources and resources for further research. The 1916 Rising and County Wexford pack cannot and does not attempt to tell the story of the Rising in its entirety. Rather, it introduces the reader to the wealth of information available in primary sources - an essential starting point for all reliable research- and in books, websites and other e-sources. The pack focuses in particular on local supports - the materials in the Wexford Studies Collections located on the top floor of the County Library in Mallin St., Wexford town, and in the Wexford County Archive collections in Ardcavan, Wexford. While every effort is made here to offer as current a resource as possible, you are directed also to the Council’s website for the 2016 Commemorations, www.enniscorthy1916.ie which will be updated beyond the print date of this publication.

Email: [email protected] Phone: 053 9259821 Email: [email protected] Phone: 053 9421374 Dear Service Provider “Progressing Disability Services for Children and Young People is a National directive whose aim is to provide one clear pathway to services for all children and young people with a disability, focusing on the needs of the child/young person and their family”. As part of this directive the HSE formed a Local Implementation Group comprising of HSE personnel involved in the delivery of Paediatric Services. Parent, Department of Education and Section 39 Voluntary agency representatives will also become involved in this process as we move forward. While reviewing current service provision it became apparent that there was a lack of awareness of all the support services that are available for children and their parents in the Wexford area. In order to address this deficit we have put together the attached directory of local supports both Voluntary and HSE run in County Wexford. This directory includes: Parenting Programmes Advocacy Groups Mother and Toddler Groups National Disability Organisations This list while comprehensive is not an exhaustive therefore we would appreciate it if you could inform us of any new developments or groups which may not have been included. We would be grateful if you could distribute this directory to any group or parent whom you feel would benefit from the information.
