Please ensure you are fueled up. There are three options for fuel close to the hotel. Petro Canada across the street and to the left or Canadian Tire and Esso, up the street to the right. We will be turning left out of the hotel towards Highway #102 Gas Gas We will take the #102 to Nackawic then get onto the Transcanada #2 to Murray’s Irving. Exit 191 (Beardsley Rd) to go to Murray’s Irving. Then we will take the highway to Hartland taking exit #172 onto Highway 130. Going towards Hartland, we will veer to the right off of the 130 highway onto Somerville Drive to go to the Covered bridge. Taking a left on #103 then Turning right onto the bridge. We will turn right off of the bridge into the Visitor Information Center. Turning left out of the visitor parking lot, we will follow the #130 to Perth Andover. Once we reach Perth Andover the 130 veers to the right with an exit to Perth Andover and goes straight. Stay straight, not taking the exit/veer off to the right. We will be on F. Tribe Rd. We will stop at the Shell for gas and a snack about 3 minutes up the road. Turning left back onto the F. Tribe Rd (109), we go a short distance then merge with the transcanada #2. We will take Exit 19 to Grey Rock Road for lunch and gas Lunch and Gas stop We will return to the TCH #2 after lunch and continue on to Quebec (Time change by an hour). TCH turns into the #185, then in Quebec becomes the #20. We will be stopping at the Irving to meet up with the Quebec crew .

CLB 3 / 4 – Skill Building – Canadian Provinces and Territories Let’s take a look at the Atlantic Provinces: Nova Scotia Nova Scotia located on the East Coast and it is almost completely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Halifax, the Province’s capital city is a major international seaport and transportation centre. Fishing is a major industry in Nova Scotia. It is one of the most productive fisheries along the Atlantic coastline, providing haddock, cod, scallops, and lobsters among its catches. Forestry and energy also play big roles in Nova Scotia's economy. Coal mining has long been a significant part of life in Nova Scotia. The industry declined after the 1950s but began a comeback in the 1990s. Agriculture, particularly poultry and dairy farms, is another big part of the area's economy. The population is approximately 940,000 and English is the official language, although some speak French. Nova Scotia was already home to the Mi’kmaq people when the first European colonists arrived. French colonists established the first permanent European settlement in 1605 at Port Royal which became known as Acadia. The British followed and obtained control of the region between 1710 and 1758, establishing Halifax as the new capital in 1749. When writing last month's newsletter on large timber structures, I remembered that a friend Dr. Dan Tingly told me that he had designed one of the world's largest timber structures. (If you missed that newsletter you missed a beauty, as the images were staggering). I asked him for some editorial and what he sent me was of such substance that it deserved a standalone newsletter. Dan's US company has conducted the survey on the Tillamook hangar below which we also saw last month. Either Dan or Bob Keller in his office designed a lot of the structures shown here. It would be a very foolish person that thought timber was yesterday's material. Not a paid commercial Tillamook Blimp Hanger (now Tillamook Air Museum) Tillamook Air Museum is an aviation museum south of Tillamook, Oregon, at Tillamook Airport in the United States. The museum is housed in a former military blimp hangar, called "Hangar B", which is the largest clearspan solid sawn wooden structure in the world. Constructed by the US Navy in 1942 during World War II for Naval Air Station Tillamook, the hangar building housing the aircraft is 1,072 feet (327 m) long and 296 feet (90 m) wide, giving it over 7 acres (2.8 ha) of area.
