The 2021 Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship Launches Date : 06-04-2021 The Telegraph today launched the Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship 2021, which is again sponsored by Justin Rose MBE. It was also announced that this year’s final of the Championship is to be held at the prestigious Walton Heath Golf Club. The decision was made by organisers to move the climax of this year’s championship from host and sponsor Quinta do Lago in Portugal to Walton Heath to avoid any potential complications arising from coronavirus related travel restrictions. Walton Heath staged the 2018 British Masters hosted by Justin Rose on the European Tour in 2018, The Ryder Cup in 1981, The Senior Open presented by Rolex in 2011 and will, in 2023, host the AIG Women’s Open. The Club will welcome the 12 best junior girls and 12 best junior boys at the final from Tuesday October 5 - Friday October 8 this year. The 24 golfers will qualify for the Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship – which is supported by The R&A, European Tour and England Golf – via qualifying events hosted by golf clubs across the UK from March to August. In addition to the 24 finalists, six net winners will also qualify for a very special three days at Walton Heath. Details on how to enter or how clubs can get involved can be found at https://www.telegraph.co.uk/junior-golf/. Open to anyone aged under 18 at midnight on Jan 1 2021, the competition has helped produce major stars including Justin Rose, Melissa Reid, Tommy Fleetwood, Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Matt Fitzpatrick and 2019’s winners Ben Schmidt and Mimi Rhodes look certain to follow in their illustrious footsteps. Regarded as the unofficial major of junior golf, the 54-hole strokeplay tournament will again be aired on Sky Sports. Justin Rose said: “I’m delighted that the Championship is returning in 2021. It is great to stage the final at Walton Heath, where I hosted the British Masters a few years ago on the Tour. After the 2020 postponement, I’m planning to bring it back with a real boost, having more net category winners in both the boys and girls sections, increasing the grassroots opportunities for a place at the final. 2019 was an amazing final at Quinta do Lago, providing us with two great champions who I got to meet and see play first hand. I can’t wait to see what the class of 2021 has to show us. Good luck to everyone taking part.” Adam Sills, Head of Sport at The Telegraph, said: “The Telegraph’s Junior Golf Championship has been the flagship for the junior game for over 35 years. It is always a privilege to put on this incredible event and the 2019 final was more evidence of the amazing golfing talent that the UK produces. We are honoured to have Justin Rose sponsor the competition and incredibly grateful to Walton Heath for hosting the final later this year.” 1 / 2 Stuart Southall, Chairman of Walton Heath Golf Club, said: “We are immensely proud to host the Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship in 2021. Our Club has a long and distinguished association with tournament golf at amateur and professional levels and we were delighted to welcome Justin as host of the 2018 British Masters. “The combination of Justin and junior golf on our wonderful heathland course promises to provide an exciting three days of competition. It is marvellous that a professional of Justin’s stature recognises that juniors are the future of golf.” Sean Moriarty, CEO Quinta do Lago said: “Quinta do Lago shares Justin Rose’s passion for junior golf and is committed to helping to develop the game’s stars of the future. We’re delighted to be involved in the 2021 championship. We wish everyone the best of luck for 2021 and look forward to hosting the final again in 2022.” Notes to editors About the Telegraph The Telegraph’s mission is to deliver quality, trusted, award-winning journalism, 24 hours a day and across all the platforms our customers use – digital and print.
