JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Freshman Jadhken Kerr led the University of North Florida women's basketball team to a 79-65 win against the Tampa Bay X-Factor on Sunday at UNF Arena, draining five 3-point buckets and finishing with 17 points while sen- ior Jennifer Bowen added 16 points and five rebounds. "We shot the ball very well today," UNF head coach Mary Tappmeyer said. "We had a nice mix of scoring from our upperclassmen and underclassmen, which should allow us to play a number of different combinations this season." Kerr knocked down two shots from behind the arc within the first two minutes of play before junior Willonda Windham connected on a layup to put the Lady Ospreys up 8-7. After five lead changes and a tie in the first three minutes of the contest, Windham's basket put UNF on top for good. Windham's .616 field goal per- centage topped the Lady Osprey squad, which shot .387 from the floor, including a .357 percentage from 3-point land. Four Lady Ospreys finished in double figures - Kerr, Bowen, redshirt freshman Rachelle Rasley (13) and Windham (11). Rasley and freshman Brittany Kirkland combined for 22 of UNF's 29 points off the bench and 33 of the team's 80 minutes off the bench. "I think one thing that was apparent today is we are a deep team," Tappmeyer said. "We have a lot of talent, and we are still figuring out our best our best com- binations." Though scoring nearly 30 points more than its average from the 2007-08 sea- son, UNF allowed 10 points more than its nationally-ranked (16th) defense last sea- son. The X-Factor converted on .394 percent of its shots from the floor, led by Angelina Williams with 19 and Kimani Thomas with 18. "We still have some work to do on the defensive end," Tappmeyer said. "Working out our best combinations will have an impact on that, and we must realize that the X-Factor is an older, more mature team who is very talented and won a champi- onship this summer." Tampa Bay put together a perfect 11-0 record over the summer in the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League, winning the 2008 league championship. Five days stand between the Lady Ospreys and the start of the regular season, which opens for UNF at Bethune-Cookman on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. Three days later, on Tuesday, Nov. 18, the Lady Ospreys will play their home opener and par- ticipate in the NCAA "Pack the House" Challenge against Florida State at UNF Arena at 7 p.m.
