Sensillar structures of the antennal pedicel are investigated in Reduviidae and Pachynomidae. The cave organ, a pre­ sumably chemoreceptive structure, previously reported only for haematophagous Triatominae, is described here also for representa­ tives of Peiratinae, Reduviinae and Stenopodainae. The systematic implication of the occurrence of this sensillar structure is discussed. Further, four sclerites located in the membrane between pedicel and preflagelloid are described and used as landmarks for the recognition of individual trichobothria in Reduviidae and Pachynomidae. Characters of the trichobothrial socket are studied and discussed systematically. Homology of the distalmost trichobothrium of Reduviidae with the single trichobothrium in Pachynomidae is proposed. This hypothesis is based on the structure of the cuticle surrounding the trichobothria and on the trichobothrial position relative to the four sclerites of the pedicello-flagellar articulation. The single trichobothrium present in most nymphs corresponds to the distalmost trichobothrium in adult Reduviidae in position and structural detail. A reasonable hypotheses on the homology of indi­ vidual trichobothria of the proximal row or field seen in most Reduviidae can so far only be formulated for Peiratinae. Pratigi aristeui gen. & sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Stenopodainae) is described based on a male from the state of Bahia, Brazil. Pratigi gen. nov. differs from all other New World genera by the conspicuously elonga- ted clypeus and the subpentagonal shape of the head. Other diagnostic features of Pratigi gen. nov. include: body somewhat broad, about three times as long as maximum width, fl attened dorsoventrally; postocular part of head with a ramose setigerous process posterolaterally; prosternum elongated behind fore coxae; fore femora strongly incrassate, fusiform; fore tibiae curved; all tibiae without fossula spongiosa; fore tarsi three-segmented. A revised key to New World Stenopodainae genera is presented. Key words. Heteroptera, Reduviidae, Stenopodainae, assassin bugs, Attalea funi- fera, Brazil, Neotropical Region Introduction Approximately 113 genera belonging to the assassin bug subfamily Stenopodainae (Hemi- ptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae) are currently considered as valid, with the majority of them inhabiting the tropics (MALDONADO 1990, SCHUH & SLATER 1995), where the species diversity is greatest in Africa and America (GIACCHI 1987), particularly in the Amazon basin of South America (BÉRENGER 2001).

The contributions of George N. Wolcott, Luis F. Martorell, Francisco Sein Jr., José A. Ramos-Alemar, Jenaro Maldonado- Capriles, Silverio Medina-Gaud, Juan A. Torres, José A. Mari-Mutt and Julio A. Micheli are discussed to establish how their work expanded the knowledge of the island's insect fauna. In addition, a total of 349 articles offering taxonomic information are listed, comprising all taxonomic contributions published in Puerto Rico through 2015.
