DOUG K. HANDSHOE, Defendant. * * * * * * * * * * * * * SUPPLEMENTAL REPLY MEMORANDUM OF DEFENDANT, DOUGLAS K. HANDSHOE MAY IT PLEASE THE COURT: This Supplemental Memorandum is submitted by defendant, Douglas K. Handshoe (“Handshoe”), in reply to the Memorandum in Opposition to Motion for Summary Judgment, which was filed by the plaintiffs, Trout Point, Vaughn Perret, and Charles Leary (collectively, “Trout Point”). As previously discussed in defendant’s Reply Memorandum, the parties agreed that this dispute would focus on pure questions of law, rather than specific facts, and would be resolved solely on motions for summary judgment. Still, as pointed out in defendant’s Reply Memorandum, plaintiffs have focused a great deal of their arguments on facts. Because of plaintiffs’ harping on the facts, defendant feels compelled to provide the court with factual points as well. Thus, this supplemental memorandum will focus on revealing the factual bases for defendant’s allegedly defamatory statements. Case 1:12-cv-00090-LG-JMR Document 27 Filed 08/06/12 Page 2 of 10 Plaintiffs repeatedly point to the assertion that in the Canadian adjudication, they proved that the statements made about them were false. Specifically, they state in their Response to Memorandum in Support of Motion for Summary Judgment that plaintiffs have clearly demonstrated that the statements were false and defamatory.

    VICTORIA COUNTY MUNICIPAL COUNCIL January 10, 2011 A meeting of Victoria County Municipal Council was held at the Court House, Baddeck, on Monday, January 10, 2011, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with Warden Bruce Morrison in the Chair. Present were: District #1 – Paul MacNeil District #2 – Keith MacCuspic District #3 – Bruce Morrison, Warden District #4 – Merrill MacInnis District #5 – Fraser Patterson, Deputy Warden District #6 – Larry Dauphinee District #7 – David Donovan District #8 – Johnny Buchanan Also present were: Sandy Hudson, CAO Heather MacLean, Recording Secretary CALL TO ORDER/APPROVAL OF AGENDA Warden Morrison called the meeting to order and extended a Happy New Year to all present. The agenda was presented for approval. It was moved by Councillor MacInnis, seconded by Councillor Buchanan, that the agenda be approved as presented. Motion carried. Warden Morrison also welcomed Alicia Lake, a Political Science Major at CBU, who was in attendance to observe the workings of Council. DEBBIE NIELSEN, UNSM SUSTAINABILITY COORDINATOR Courtesy of Council was extended to Debbie Nielsen, UNSM Sustainability Coordinator, who was in attendance to make a presentation on the projects being undertaken and the resources available through the UNSM Sustainability Office. Ms. Nielsen began by stating that sustainability is an opportunity to look at how to do things better and more efficiently which results in saving energy and dollars. We have been extremely busy here at ANSA preparing for African Heritage Month events and continuing to work with our government colleagues and community partners. This year’s theme, “Then and Now: Our Journey Continues”, celebrates and highlights historic African Nova Scotian communities. It is a chance to look back on our rich history and look to the future of our communities. We should all take this opportunity to examine critically what we need to do to continue down a path to prosperity. Each year more provincial and community events are being held across the province and I am pleased to see that African Heritage Month continues to grow. I hope to see many of you at events this year. But as always, I believe African Heritage and our communities should be celebrated all year. In this issue you will read about some exciting events that have occurred, including a piece of Lake Loon-Cherry Brook history which was showcased at the Atlantic Film Festival, Jamaica celebrating 50 years of independence, African Nova Scotians and the War of 1812 workshops, and Christmas returning to Africville. The 8th Annual International African Diaspora Heritage Trail Conference was held in Barbados, and African Nova Scotian Affairs partnered with community groups to put on a presentation that was well received by participants.

    Public ⌧ Report No. 08-02-1122 Private Date: 07 March 2008 HALIFAX REGIONAL SCHOOL BOARD Imagine Our Schools: 10 Year Facility Master Plan, Phase 1 PURPOSE: To provide the Board with recommendations regarding the outcomes of Phase 1 of the Imagine Our Schools consultation process. The approved recommendations will become the 10-year Facilities Master Plan for the Citadel High, Dartmouth High, Prince Andrew High, Cole Harbour District High and Auburn Drive High Families of Schools which will be forwarded to the Department of Education for funding consideration. BACKGROUND: Traditionally, capital planning for the school facilities in the HRSB has been completed through school closure and boundary review processes resulting in capital requests to the Department of Education (DOE) on an annual or biennial basis. The capital requests often consisted of a list of new school construction, alterations and additions. The last major funding announcements from the DOE occurred in 2003 and the summary of the capital funding for the HRSB from that announcement can be found in Appendix 1. In December 2004 the HRSB approved and forwarded a capital construction submission as requested by the DOE which outlined capital requests for new construction and additions/alterations. The board was requested to appear before the provincial School Capital Construction Committee in January 2005 to clarify and elaborate on the capital requests. The Deputy Minister’s Office sent a request to the HRSB in July 2005 for additional information before considering the HRSB capital requests. A detailed submission was prepared, titled “Capital Project – Submission draft 08/03/05” which was approved by the Board on September 28, 2005.
