A host of perpetrators made reporters and photographers, even editors, fair game as there were murders, attacks, threats, and cases filed against them for defamation, sedition, and internet- related offences. It was a year in which two journalists were shot at point blank range and killed, and one was hacked to death as police stood by and did not stop the mob. The following statistics have been compiled from The Hoot’s Free Speech Hub monitoring: Ø 3 killings of journalists which can be clearly linked to their journalism Ø 46 attacks Ø 27 cases of police action including detentions, arrests and cases filed. Ø 12 cases of threats These are conservative estimates based on reporting in the English press. The major perpetrators as the data in this report shows tend to be the police and politicians and political workers, followed by right wing activists and other non-state actors Law makers became law breakers as members of parliament and legislatures figured among the perpetrators of attacks or threats. These cases included a minister from UP who threatened to set a journalist on fire, and an MLA from Chirala in Andhra Pradesh and his brother accused of being behind a brutal attack on a magazine journalist.

Abstract This critical study attempts to explore the representation of political ideology through Bollywood movies with special reference of the blockbuster movie “Uri: The Surgical Strike”. Political messages in the majority of the Bollywood films are cloaked within entertainment. With the aim of conveying their messages to the public, movies use interesting and thrilling plots blended with political content. Films also construct the political ideology in addition to reflecting reality. “Uri: The Surgical Strike” is one of the best movies of 2019 based on the political ideology. Generally, the audience is oblivious to the degree to which they are being managed, manipulated, and conditioned by the political ideology discourses in the movies. This research tries to carry out the critical analysis of the 3rd highest grossing Bollywood film of 2019, “Uri: The Surgical Strike”. The present critical study tried to represent the political ideology concealed in the movie. The study also attempts to explore how politics and entertainment are merged together in the movie and persuade the public opinion. The movie is based on the surgical raids performed in 2016 by “the Indian army” against militant launching pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). The critical study of the film will help in exploring the representation of political ideology in the movie.

Article History: Submitted-28/04/2020, Revised-29/06/2020, Accepted-03/07/2020, Published-10/07/2020. Abstract: In women-centric cinema, women basically stand against the injustice. From the thematic point of view, the movies focus on representation of women-centred issues. To cross the marginalised boundary and to create a space, a room of one’s self, is the prime motive of such women-centric movies by encouraging social change in the treatment of women in Indian society. With regard to the male directors, a calculative step is taken in such movies by presenting an act of gaining sympathy for the female protagonists from the audiences, especially the male group as dominating the audience class. Hence, our point is here to show such designed portrayal of women conditions in Madhur Bhandarkar movies in which women towards the end of the movies are targeted as objects of sympathy despite their independent attitudes and efforts.
