STRUCTURAL KINESIOLOGY CLASS 11

With John Maguire WHAT WE WILL COVER IN THIS CLASS

Muscles of the Large Intestine: • Lata • • Lumborum The Emergency Mode

2 FASCIA LATA MUSCLE PAGE 224

Meridian Large Intestine Organ Large Intestine Action Flexes, medially rotates and abducts the . Origin posterior to the ASIS Insertion Iliotibial band Muscle Test The supine person holds the leg in a position of abduction, internal rotation, and hip flexion with the in hyperextension. Push the leg down and in towards the other ankle NL Top of the to below the knee cap along the iliotibial band Back: a triangle from L2 – L4 on the soft tissue in the back NV #10 Parietal Eminence

Indications • Intestinal problems of constipation, spastic colon, colitis and diarrhea, • Chest soreness and breast pain with menstruation. • Postural sign is the legs tend to bow 3 HAMSTRINGS PAGE 226

Meridian Large Intestine Organ Large Intestine – particularly the rectum Action Biceps Femoris (lateral ) – Flexes the knee, laterally rotates the hip and the flexed knee and extends the hip. Semitendinosus and Semimembranosus (medial hamstrings) Flexes the knee, medially rotates the hip and extends the hip. Origin Ischial tuberosity and the back middle of the femur Insertion Biceps Femoris – Head of the . Semitendinosus – top inside of the Semimembranosus – back of the medial of the tibia Muscle Test With the leg bent so the angle of the calf and the thigh is slightly more than 90 degrees, exert pressure in the middle of the hamstring to prevent cramping. Pressure is against the back of the to straighten the leg. NL Inside of the upper thigh and lateral to L 5 in the back NV #2 Posterior Fontanel Indications • Intestinal problems of constipation, spastic colon, colitis and diarrhea, hemorrhoids, headaches, weakness of the legs, restlessness and fatigue • Postural sign is the legs tend to bow or knock kneed depending if the medial or lateral hamstrings are weak. Sometimes one side will be weak and the other tight

4 QUADRATUS LUMBORUM PAGE 228

Meridian Large Intestine Organ Large Intestine Action Laterally flexes the vertebral column to the same side Laterally elevates the pelvis Origin Posterior iliac crest

Insertion Last rib and transverse processes of L1 – L5 Muscle Test With feet together, lean to one side and shoulders to the other. Place hand on the extended hip and the other on the opposite shoulder. NL Front: Inside of the ASIS and the top inside of the thigh Back: T11 – T12 and the tip of the 12th rib NV #10 – the parietal eminence

Indications • Low back pain, difficulty breathing because it attaches to the 12th rib and can affect the diaphragm muscle

• Postural signs: elevated 12th rib on the weak side and a curve in the lumbar vertebrae

5 EMERGENCY MODE Electrical Emotional Structural

In Leonardo de Vinci’s picture of man, when the arms are horizontal, they touch the sides of a square. Chemical When the arms are 20 degrees above, they touch the sides of a circle.

When the arms are 20 degrees down, they touch the sides of an equilateral triangle.

• Each of these arm positions, know as the emergency mode can be tested to see if a person needs work in the Electrical/Emotional (arms 20 degrees above), Structural (arms straight out) and Chemical (arms 20 degrees down).

• They are more thorough and deeper than the finger modes.

• Finger modes only work properly when testing a muscle, or circuit locating something, whereas the emergency modes work in the clear.

• When these modes show, it indicates the overall body most needs this type of work, and it is good to start the session with this.

• Most people will test weak on at least one of these positions, though you will sometimes find all of these positions test strong.

6 EMERGENCY MODE

Test:

Have the person put the arms in each position and test a strong leg muscle, such as a TFL, if they are lying supine. If they are standing, you can use an arm muscle, so get them in each position and then push the arm down. Bring their arms back to their side and then go to the next position and test until you’ve checked all three positions. 1. Chemical: arms 20 degrees below the horizontal 2. Structural: arms at the horizontal 3. Electrical/Emotional: arms 20 degrees above the horizontal • To isolate which of the two realms you need to balance, retest while they hold the position and touch the thumb to the ring finger (the emotional mode) and if it changes to strong, they need emotional balancing. • Retest while holding the electrical mode (little finger) and if they go strong do electrical balancing.

7 CHEMICAL EMERGENCY MODE

If Chemical tests weak, use your Biochemical Kinesiology knowledge. If you’ve only completed the Kinesiology Fundamentals, ask the following statements:

• While they hold the position (or easier is to put it in circuit) and state “diet addition,” “diet deletion,” “supplement addition” and see which ones test strong.

• If Diet Addition tests strong, then test categories of foods to see what they need to add to the diet:

• Vegetarian proteins • Vegetables • Fruit • Nuts & Seeds • Water

• Animal proteins • Healthy fats and oils • Grains • Herbs & Spices • Eggs

• Explore with them what foods in that group they would want to eat, such as nuts: seeds, lentils, tofu, beans, quinoa, green peas, artichokes, dairy, etc. and you can do yes/no testing by listing each food

8 CHEMICAL EMERGENCY MODE

If Diet Deletion tests strong, then test categories of foods to see what they need to delete from their diet by stating each group as you test: “Delete unhealthy fats and oils” test “delete grains” test, etc.

• Unhealthy fats and oils • Grains • Sugars • Nuts & Seeds • Beverages

• Meat, poultry and fish • Dairy • Starches • Fruit (fresh & dried) • Eggs

• Explore with them what foods in that group they have been eating, so if they need to delete something in the beverages category, have them say each item and test to see what the body tests strong for that it wants to delete, such as: “Delete coffee,” test “delete wine,” test “delete coke,” test, etc.

9 CHEMICAL EMERGENCY MODE

If Supplement Addition tests strong, then test categories of food supplements to see what they need to add.

• Vitamins • Herbs • Essential Oils • Homeopathics • Bach Flower

• Minerals • Amino Acids • Fiber Supplements • Glandulars • Sea Products

• If you have a supplement test kit, you can use that along with strategies taught in the Biochemical Kinesiology Program. If they brought their own supplements, you can test those.

10 STRUCTURAL EMERGENCY MODE

If Structural tests weak, then balancing muscles and doing a Structural Kinesiology Session is what is needed. You can ask the body in a similar way to how we tested in the Chemical Mode

• Things that you will learn in this course that could be needed include:

• Injury Recall • Myofascial Release • Ileocecal Valve • TMJ • Pitch, Roll & Yaw

• Muscle Balancing • Lymphatic Release • Hiatal Hernia • Cranials • Reactive Muscles

11 EMOTIONAL & ELECTRICAL EMERGENCY MODE

If Emotional tests weak, then ask them what their number one stressor is and do the emotional stress release technique on that and if they have several, you can ask the body what is best to clear.

If Electrical tests weak, then you can use your skills from the Energy Kinesiology Program and if you haven’t done that then you can do meridian tracing or any other skills you know working with energy.

• Things that you will learn in this course that could be needed include:

• Tonification points • Command points • Chakras • Electromagnetic Fields

• Sedation points • Luo points • Auric Fields • Tibetan Figure Eights

12 ASSIGNMENT

1. Practice testing and balancing the Fascia Lata, Hamstrings, and the Quadratus Lumborum on two people, as well as get your own muscles tested and balanced. If you have a massage table, practice them both standing and on the table.

2. Balance any found weak using the NL and NV techniques, then recheck with the more mode to see you did enough.

3. For muscles that test strong, retest while holding the More Mode and if they now tests weak, test again while stating “Hidden, (test), Sustained (test), Muscle Stretch (test)” and do any techniques that strengthened the mode.

4. Test someone on the Emergency Mode and balance anything that comes up.

5. Take the quiz for this class posted on the website.

6. Communicate with your study partner from class at least once this week about your results and any breakthroughs and insights you are getting.
