Carlo Cottarelli, a citizen of , has been Director of the Fiscal Affairs Department since November 2008. After receiving degrees in economics from the and the London School of Economics, he joined the Research Department of the where he worked from 1981 to 1987.

Mr. Cottarelli joined the IMF in 1988, working for the Fiscal Affairs Department, the European Department, the Monetary and Capital Markets Department, and the Policy Development and Review Department. He was Deputy Director both in the European Department and the Policy Development and Review Department.

Mr. Cottarelli has worked on several advanced, emerging market, and low-income countries in the context of surveillance, IMF-supported programs, and technical assistance, including Albania, Croatia, Hungary, Lebanon, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Italy, and the United Kingdom. He has written several papers on fiscal and monetary policies and institutions, and edited books on inflation, monetary policy, and exchange rates. André SAPIR

Stefan Collignon is professor for economic policy at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa, since October 2007. He joined Centro Europa Ricerche (CER) in as chairman of the scientific committee in July 2007. He was Centennial Professor of European Political Economy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) since January 2001. During 2005-2007 he was Visiting Professor at Harvard University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Government Department and an associate of the Minda de Gunzburg Centre for European Studies at Harvard. He has also taught at the University of Hamburg (2007/8), the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris and Lille, at the College of Europe in Bruges and at the Free University of Berlin (1997-2000). Previously he has served as Deputy Director General for Europe in the Federal Ministry of Finance in Berlin 1999 - 2000.
