UFO digital cinema helps revive Punjabi film industry Punjabi films now screened in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh thanks to UFO digital technology Mumbai, September 27, 2012: The Punjabi film industry has been witnessing a major revival and positive transformation thanks to a significant contribution by UFO Moviez, the world’s largest satellite delivered digital cinema network. UFO Moviez, which has been contributing towards the revival and growth of regional cinema in India, is playing a stellar role in turning around the fortune of several Punjabi film producers, actors and theatre owners through its digital cinema technology across the state. In fact, 79 Punjabi films have released on the UFO digital network till date with 16 films so far in 2012. Interestingly, Punjabi films are now also being released in other states such as Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh due to UFO digital technology bridging the geographical divide. This has helped expand the audience base for Punjabi films and also encouraged several well known Punjabi film producers and actors to come forth and re-enter the industry with big ticket film offerings. Several leading Punjabi producers have lined their upcoming films such as ‘Dil Tainu Karda Ae Pyar’, ‘Pinky Mogewali’, ‘Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22’ and ‘Ajj De Ranjhe’ for the festive months of September and October, 2012. Bollywood actors like Neeru Bajwa, Diljit Dosanjh, Mahi Gill and Jimmy Shergill amongst others are now acting in Punjabi films, making the films more popular among masses. And more importantly, the new films are reaching out to their audiences across the country.

The Bill received Royal Assent on 25 April 2013 and 14 Section 97For of the ERR Peer Act (that provides Review that Government `shall’ Only use Section 9(5)a to make 15 caste an aspect of race) came into force on 25 June 2013. The Amendment will be made to 16 the Equality Act 2010 by ‘adding caste as ‘an aspect of’ the protected characteristic of race’ 17 (Waughray 2014). Importantly, although the Government’s timetable states that the 18 19 legislation will be enforced not before October 2015, the considerable delay in 20 implementation is consequential of the opposition from both Sikh and Hindu organisations. 21 To some degree, there was unanimity amongst most British Sikhs that legislation against 22 caste discrimination was unnecessary under British law.

  • Bombastic, Fantastic... Bollywood
Ressort: Special interest Bombastic, Fantastic... Bollywood Berlin, 22.05.2019 [ENA] Over a century ago, the world's largest film industry was born: Bollywood. The shiny world of Bollywood films is more ridiculed than loved in Germany. But who does not take Bollywood seriously is mistaken: the Indian film industry not only offers colourful costumes, singing, dancing and lively film sets, but also artisan films that are in no way inferior to the Western movies. Non-Indians understand "Bollywood" as a synonym for the entire Indian film industry, which is actually incorrect. The word "Bollywood" is made up of "Bombay" and "Hollywood" (In 1996, the city council in Bombay decided to change the name to Mumbai). The local film industry produces more films than the USA, China and Japan. Only in 2016 more than 2.2 billion movie tickets were sold in India, making it the world's leading film market - German cinema can only dream of that! In India, "Bollywood" is the name for the Hindi-language film that exists alongside the Tamil film, the Telugu cinema (Tollywood), the Punjabi film (Pollywood), Malayalam cinema (Mollywood) and other cinemas. In total, 1721 languages are spoken on the subcontinent, of which 122 are main languages. Between 2014 and 2015, the Indian film industry shot 1827 films in over 39 languages, of which 297 were in Tamil, 297 in Hindi and 284 in Telugu. Despite the variety of languages the Indian entertainment films, regardless of which region they originate from have a lot in common. Indian cinema is a phenomenon that reflects the cultural pattern of Indian society.

Segall 1 1984 and Film: Trauma and the Evolution of the Punjabi Sikh Identity Hayley Segall Capstone Essay Dr. Emilia Bachrach Department of Religion, Oberlin College April 12, 2020 Abstract: This capstone analyzes Punjabi Sikh identity to expand scholarly discourse on trauma and identity formation. After providing background on Sikh roots in Punjab, this piece relates Sikh trauma from 1984 to a contemporary collective identity. In June 1984, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi launched Operation Bluestar; troops stormed the sacred Golden Temple to capture a perceived militant, Jarnail Bhindranwale. Because hundreds of civilians died in the crossfire, Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards. In retaliation, Hindu nationalists slaughtered thousands of Sikhs in the Delhi Riots. The effects of violence against Sikhs in Operation Bluestar and the Delhi riots reflect both a continued marginalization of the Punjabi Sikh community and a unique emergent collective identity.
