FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 09/27/2019 WEEKLY “NOTES & NUGGETS” FROM THE PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME GRIDIRON GLORY TO OPEN IN MIAMI; HALL OF FAME DONATES SHIRTS; ANDRE TIPPETT TOOK PART IN THE HEART OF A HALL OF FAMER; 12 BRONZED BUSTS DISPLAYED AT CARDINALS FANTENNIAL CELEBRATION; FROM THE ARCHIVES: OLDEST NFL RECORDS CANTON, OHIO – The following is a sampling of events, happenings and notes that highlight how the Pro Football Hall of Fame serves its important mission to “Honor the Heroes of the Game, Preserve its History, Promote its Values & Celebrate Excellence EVERYWHERE!” GRIDIRON GLORY TO OPEN IN MIAMI Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Hall of Fame’s largest and most comprehensive traveling exhibition on America’s favorite sport, will open at the HistoryMiami Museum in Miami, Florida tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019. Gridiron Glory presents a panoramic view of the story of professional football – from its humble beginnings in the late 19th century to the cultural phenomenon it is today. Gridiron Glory will show through until Feb. 9, 2020, after Super Bowl LIV is played in Miami. The 8,000-square-foot exhibition features more than 200 artifacts, rare photographs, one-of-a-kind documents, spectacular footage from NFL films, and interactive displays that challenge both mind and body. The interactive multimedia experience also includes a “Hometown Heroes” section to spotlight the Miami Dolphins and local football heroes. Some of the unique artifacts on display include: • A game ball from a 1910 game • Knute Rockne’s 1919 Massillon Tigers helmet • Vince Lombardi Trophy • Hall of Famer Larry Csonka’s helmet worn during his career with the Dolphins September 16-19, 2020 A once-in-every- other-lifetime celebration to kick off the NFL’s next century in the city where the league was born. • A mold replica of Jerry Rice’s hands and the football that Rice caught when he tied the NFL record for most career receptions • Jersey worn by Walter Payton when he broke Jim Brown’s all-time rushing record in 1984 • The historic elevator panel from Three Rivers Stadium where Art Rooney was standing when the famous “Immaculate Reception” occurred in the 1972 Playoffs Visitors will have the opportunity to try on vintage pads and jerseys as well as modern equipment. They will also be able to step inside the Instant Replay Booth and see if they can make the right call. The traveling exhibition has been featured in every Super Bowl city since its opening in 2012. HALL OF FAME DONATES SHIRTS TO THOSE IN NEED The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Youth & Education team worked with the National Association of the Bahamas to send shirts to those in need after the region was devastated by Hurricane Dorian. Nearly 2,000 Hall of Fame logoed shirts were shipped to Fort Lauderdale, Florida before being disseminated to the Ranfurly Homes for Children in Nassau as well as several churches and parishes in Grand Bahama and Nassau. ANDRE TIPPETT INSPIRES STUDENTS The Heart of a Hall of Famer series, powered by Extreme Networks, provides students the opportunity to learn first-hand what it took beyond athletic ability for legendary Heroes of the Game to achieve success on and off the field. The program focuses on the Hall of Fame’s core values of commitment, integrity, courage, respect and excellence. On Thursday, Hall of Fame linebacker ANDRE TIPPETT took part in a Heart of a Hall of Famer program hosted at McKinley High School located adjacent to the Hall of Fame. One student asked if there was anyone Tippett studied who played in the NFL before him. “Deacon Jones, Jack Ham Bobby Bell, Thomas Henderson . watch the great one out there. I tell people today, the highest form of flattery is to emulate people that do great things and that’s on the field, off the field, in school out of school, anybody that does great things. And you feel like you have the opportunity to do those things and contribute – study those people,” Tippett shared. 12 BRONZED BUSTS DISPLAYED AT CARDINALS FANTENNIAL CELEBRATION As part of the Arizona Cardinals Fantennial Celebration, the team is hosting a 'Hall of Fame Day' at State Farm Stadium tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cardinals fans are invited to the free event, which will feature a Q&A session and autographs with Cardinals Hall of Famers AENEAS WILLIAMS and ROGER WEHRLI as well as other alumni. The event will also feature a display of 12 Cardinals Bronzed Busts from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The 12 busts that will be on display include: • CHARLES BIDWILL • ERNIE NEVERS • JIMMY CONZELMAN • CHARLEY TRIPPI • DAN DIERDORF • KURT WARNER • JOHN "PADDY" DRISCOLL • ROGER WEHRLI • DICK “NIGHT TRAIN” LANE • AENEAS WILLIAMS • OLLIE MATSON • LARRY WILSON The event will also feature appearances by Cardinals team mascot Big Red and the Cardinals Cheerleaders. Fans can take their picture on the Cardinals Big Red Siren as well as in front of a green screen while food and beverages will be available at various concession stands. Fans will be able to enter State Farm stadium through Gate 3 with free parking offered in the green lot (East). The NFL Clear Bag policy will be in effect and all fans are asked to limit the items brought inside the stadium to speed their entry through security. PRO FOOTBALL RESEARCH & PRESERVATION CENTER: The Ralph Wilson, Jr. Pro Football Research & Preservation Center is home to the world’s largest collection on football including a personal legacy archive on every player who has competed in the NFL since its founding in 1920. Contained inside the archives are more than 40 million pages of documents and six million photographic images. Staff help a variety of patrons from fans, researchers, authors, and students as well as serving as a resource of information to the National Football League, its 32 clubs and members of the media. OLDEST NFL RECORDS Each season, records are shattered by new talent and veterans alike. However, some records have gone untouched for decades. The most points scored in a game by a single player was by ERNIE NEVERS on Nov. 28, 1929 when the Chicago Cardinals took on the Chicago Bears. Nevers scored 40 points – six touchdowns and four PAT.
