Working in Croydon

In recent years Croydon has seen the dawn of a new chapter in its history as one of the most thriving towns in South London.

With the emergence of a start-up technology community, a flourishing arts and cultural scene, and the regeneration of its town centre, the future is bright.

The town has enjoyed a rich history. It was once the countryside retreat of archbishops and their households, a stop-off on the road from Lambeth Palace to Canterbury, and has hosted the likes of Henry III, VI and VIII, as well as Elizabeth I. It is also home to the country’s oldest market, Surrey Street Market, which has been trading since 1276.

Croydon has benefitted from its proximity to both London and the South Coast for many years, allowing those who live and work here to get in to the capital and out to surrounding towns and villages easily via well-established rail, bus and tram routes. 27 million people travel through East Croydon’s rail network each year, reaching London Gatwick airport in 16 minutes; central London in 18 minutes, and Wimbledon in under half an hour on the tram, making it a well-connected town.

In 2019, building work will start at Westfield’s third development in London, regenerating the bustling town centre’s shopping, night life and residential areas and building on existing new developments, including the success of Boxpark Croydon.

With the RISE Gallery, The Spread Eagle Pub and Theatre venue, and the David Lean cinema, the cultural life of Croydon is alive and kicking. Walking through the streets of the town you will see some of the best street art, and each summer the town hosts a Rooftop Cinema Club. The redevelopment of the Fairfield Halls, due for completion in 2019, is also an exciting step in the town’s history.

With both technology start-up and multi-national businesses moving to Croydon, working here has never felt more exciting. In Croydon you can enjoy all the benefits of living and working in a town near the capital, but not be far away from the countryside, with both the Surrey Hills and North Downs a few minutes’ drive from the town centre.

For over 400 years The Whitgift Foundation have been educating the young and caring for the elderly. This was the vision of the founder Archbishop John Whitgift. Trinity School is at the heart of this academic excellence and I look forward to receiving your application to join us.
