BLATT NAMED COACH OF THE MONTH: Cavaliers Head Coach David Blatt was named the NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for games played in October and November. It marked the second time Blatt has earned Coach of the Month accolades (March 2015) as he became the fourth coach in Cavaliers history to win the award more than once, joining Lenny Wilkens (three times), Mike Fratello (two times) and Mike Brown (five times). It also marked the 13th time in franchise history a coach has won the honor. Blatt led the Cavaliers to the best record in the East during October/November at 13-4 (.765), including a perfect 9-0 at The Q. Only three players reached that mark in as few games as he did: Wilt Chamberlain (691 games), Michael Jordan (782), and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (889). James recorded 22 points and 11 assists in reaching the plateau, becoming the 6th player to record a double-double in the game in which he surpassed 25,000 points, joining Chamberlain (who had a triple double when he reached that mark in 1968), Jerry West (1973), Abdul-Jabbar (1980), Karl Malone (1997), and Tim Duncan (2014). The Canton Charge (2-6), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, were defeated by the Iowa Energy (6-2), 106-101, in Des Moines on Wednesday night (December 9). The Energy move to 2-0 in the season series between the two teams and to the top of the Central Division. Quinn Cook led Canton with 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting with five rebounds, five assists, and a steal in 40 minutes of play. Joe Harris had a strong effort on assignment from the Cavaliers with 23 points, four assists and a block in 37 minutes. CAVS AND MONSTERS ENCOURAGE FANS TO JOIN THEM IN DONATING TOYS FOR LOCAL CHILDREN IN NEED THIS HOLIDAY SEASON: With the holiday season upon us, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lake Erie Monsters are donating toys, and encouraging their fans to join them, to help make it a more festive time for underprivileged children in Northeast Ohio. Now through December 11th, the two teams will be holding their annual Toy Drive, presented by Step2, as part of the Cavaliers Season of Giving, presented by Nestle Baking. Beginning with the Nov. 25 Monsters game and Nov. 28th Cavs game, fans are asked to participate in the Toy Drive by bringing new, unwrapped toys to Quicken Loans Arena.
