Panathinaikon Stadium, a throw’s stone from Zappeion, is where the first modern Olympics in 1896 took place. Walking passed the Presidential Mansion and the Prime Minister’s Office we reach upmarket and Kolonaki quarter with its lively cafes and fine eclecticism buildings. On our way to see the Athens Trilogy – the three exquisite neoclassic public buildings – we pass from the outstanding Schliemann Mansion, the businessman who financed the discovery of Troy. Omonoia Square is an always busy and the melting pot of Athens and nearby imposing buildings of the National Bank, the former Post Office HQs and the City Hall. The evening in classical Athens was the time when symposia were happening, so time to follow the tradition and enjoy a wine tasting of Greek quality wines with some traditional tastes and chatting and philosophizing about everything and anything. Having enjoyed the wine and the food a short, easy walk takes us to the centre of the old quarter of Plaka to the imposing Tower of the Winds and the Roman Market. Our walk ends at Syntagma Square where the Parliament and the monument of the Unknown Soldier, the point where Zero kilometres sign stands.
