September 2017 The Peter Allen Songbook Morning Melodies at the Hopgood Theatre Easily touted as Australia’s second national anthem, I Still Call Australia Home written by the legendary Peter Allen is the backbone of The Peter Allen Songbook heading to the Hopgood Theatre on October 5. Brought to South Australia by Promac Productions, this show contains many of the greatest hits Peter Allen ever wrote including “Rio”, “I Honestly Love you”, “Quiet Please”, “I Am Not The Boy Next Door”, “Tenterfield Saddler”, and many more. The show has been written and directed by the same creative team at Promacprod that gave us the hit Gilbert and Sullivan shows The Pirates of Penzance and HMS Pinafore over the past five years. Popular singer/dancer and music theatre star John Bowles, better known for his outstanding performances in the leading roles of such shows as The Phantom of the Opera, Hello Dolly and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to The Forum, takes the lead. Promacprod Director Christopher McKenna said: “John is no stranger to audiences around Australia, having performed in many theatres in his own one-man show. His stage presence and all round singing and dancing talent makes him a natural choice to pay tribute to the great Peter Allen.” Alongside John will be Michelle Fitzmaurice, an award winning actress/singer and graduate from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Upon graduating she was awarded the Leslie Anderson award for most promising newcomer. Since then Michelle has starred in Neighbours while performing with The Gaslight Company across Australia. Well-known for his regular roles in The Sullivan’s, Bellbird and Prisoner and starring in numerous JC Williamson’s Musicals such as Camelot, The Fantastics and Hello Dolly, veteran Australian stage and television performer Brian Hannan will narrate. He has currently been starring in the Gilbert & Sullivan shows touring Australia. The musical director on piano for the show will be David Cameron who is no stranger to SA theatres and is currently musical director for Marina Prior and David Hobson. Joining David on Stage will be Paul Cengia on drums and percussion.
