19 December 2017 MEDIA RELEASE TOWNSVILLE AIRPORT’S NAACEX HANGARS FOR LEASE A unique opportunity to join Australia’s newest aviation business park has become available with Townsville’s Northern Australian Aerospace Centre of Excellence (NAACEX) hangars for lease. Constructed in 2008, the hangars suit a range of aviation uses and offer direct apron, runway and RAAF base access at Townsville Airport. The two available hangars are Code C (737/A320) capable and come fitted out with dual level offices, boardroom and conference rooms, air conditioned workshops and amenities. Queensland Airports Limited Executive General Manager Property and Infrastructure Carl Bruhn said it was an opportunity to join a fully serviced general aviation precinct in reach of the rapidly growing South East Asian aviation industry. “A large part of the appeal for aviation businesses is NACCEX’s proximity to major transport hubs servicing Australasia,” Mr Bruhn said. “Townsville offers a closer proximity to key Asian transport hubs when compared with Brisbane and Sydney airports. The flight range of Boeing 737-800 from Townsville Airport can reach hubs such as Jakarta and Guam.” Between 2400sqm and 6,211sqm of floor space and can be leased in one line or separately depending on requirements. The modern facilities feature restricted access, reticulated air, three phase power and outlets throughout, adjacent staff car park, large ventilation fans, three monorail cranes in each hangar capable of 2800 kg lift and fire suppression systems. Aircraft painting company Flying Colours Aviation currently tenants one of the NAACEX and is expanding into another hangar in the precinct due to its growth. INTRODUCTION Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) owns Gold Coast Airport Pty Ltd, Mount Isa Airport Pty Ltd and Townsville Airport Pty Ltd, the airport lessee companies for the respective airports. QAL owns Aviation Ground Handling Pty Ltd (AGH) which has ground handling contracts for airlines at Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay and Townsville Airports and Worland Aviation Pty Ltd, an aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul company based in the Northern Australian Aerospace Centre of Excellence at Townsville Airport. QAL specialises in providing services and facilities at regional airports in Australia and is a 100% Australian owned company. The majority of its shares are held by fund managers on behalf of Australian investors such as superannuation funds. 2. PRODUCTIVITY COMMISSION INQUIRY RESPONSE QAL makes this submission to the Productivity Commission Inquiry as an investor/operator whose airports have experienced little or no formal pricing or quality of service regulation over the last decade. We feel our experience demonstrates that this light handed regulatory environment has been instrumental in generating significant community and shareholder benefits. Submission to the Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Reference Committee’s Inquiry into the Operation Regulation and Funding of Air Route Service Delivery to Rural, Regional and Remote Communities Overview Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) welcomes the opportunity to provide a submission to the Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Reference Committee’s inquiry into the operation, regulations and funding of air route service delivery to rural, regional and remote communities, particularly given how this important issue impacts most of the communities where we operate. In its submission, QAL has addressed the specific areas of interest identified by the Committee, while also highlighting the company’s future growth plans and contribution to the communities where its airports are located. QAL would welcome the opportunity to further discuss with the Committee the issues addressed in this submission. Background QAL is an Australian owned, Queensland-based company that owns and operates Gold Coast, Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach airports. QAL is a privately-owned company and its shareholders include superannuation and investment funds. Last calendar year more than 8.4 million passengers were welcomed by QAL’s four airports, which was an increase of 2.3 per cent on the year before. Gold Coast Airport is the sixth busiest airport in Australia and services the popular northern NSW and the Gold Coast tourism regions. Mount Isa and Longreach airports are located in rural Queensland, while Townsville Airport is a larger regional airport that connects with some capital cities and several other smaller regional and remote airports. Gold Coast and Townsville airports deliver a combined economic impact of $715 million annually to the communities where they operate.
