 Distinguished Lecture Program was organized by IEEE AP-MTT Chapter, at Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, CU on 7th April, 2015. The speaker Prof. Sembiam R. RengarajanProfessor, Department of ECE,California  IEEE APS Distinguished Lecture Program was organized by IEEE AP-MTT Chapter, Kolkata Section in association with IEEE Kharagpur section at IIT, Kharagpur on 24th September at the IIT Kharagpur premises. The lecture was delivered by the AP-S Distinguished Lecturer, Dr. Sudhakar Rao from Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, USA.

 Sight Project: AP/MTT Chapter was complemented by the AP Society with two special projects on SIGHT (Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology).  The chapter organized a SIGHT Panel Discussion in conjunction with CODEC 2015 on December 16, 2015,atSwissotel, Kolkata,  Another AP-S SIGHT event which included Amateur Radio Session, Demo & Training Session was organized by IEEE AP/MTT Chapter in association with IEEE Student Branch IIT Guwahati during December 18-21, 2015 at IIT Guwahati, Assam, India in conjunction with AEMC 2015.  The Chapter was associated with DST sponsored faculty development program organized by the National Institute of NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY SILCHAR, Silchar, Assam on “RECENT TRENDS IN MICROWAVE & ANTENNA TECHNOLOGY” from May 18-22, 2015.  Collaborative Activities: The CAS Chapter extended collaborative hands to Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering of Pailan College of Management & Technology in organizing the National Seminar on “Modern Trends in Electrical & Electronics Engineering – Electro 2015” on August 28  Networking Activity: The most important activity carried out by the Chapter is the organization of the Networking Meeting between the CAS Chapters of IEEE Singapore Section and IEEE Kolkata Section. This type of meeting had been organized in Kolkata for the first time and was very unique in nature. J.U.  Arranged technical Lecture at the Broadband Wireless Laboratory of ETCE Department, Jadavpur University on 19June 2015.  Arranged technical Lecture at the Broadband Wireless Laboratory of ETCE Department, Jadavpur University on 04 Dec 2015.  A seminar program on the topics of Recent Researches on Wireless Communication was organized by IEEE COMSOC Kolkata Chapter and Department of ECE, Narula Institute of Technology on 25th July 2015 from 11am to 5 pm.  5-Day Workshop on Emerging Trends in Wireless Communications and Networking Organized by IEEE Communication Society, Kolkata Section during 17-21 November, 2015 at the Department of ETCE, Jadavpur University. The 5-day workshop also includes a Research Colloquium for the presentation of research ideas and work by the young scholars and masters’ students.  There were special Industry participation programs for the post graduate and PhD research scholars in the Broadband Wireless Communication Laboratory of ETCE Department, Jadavpur University. The main purpose of the program was to involve industry personnel for hand on training in the specific field of research interest and that to handle the high end equipments needed for the research. This year there were two programme:  one at Sep 21 and 22 where Mr. Ankur Tyagi of Eigen Technology participated in a training program on Sensor Network.  Another was on October 5 and 10, 2015 where Scientech Technology personnel were involved for the training of Software Defined Radio on wireless system.

 Educational Activity: Student members of ED, University of Calcutta Student Branch Chapter organized an EDC-ETC Program on 31st March 2015. The school named ‘Brahmo Balika Shikshaloy’ was selected for this program. A total number of 16 projects have been carefully selected and are demonstrated to the students with the help of the snap circuits. There were 30 participants and two teachers who attended the workshop.

There were 27 participants and two teachers from Brahmo Balika Shikshaloy, Kolkata who attended the workshop.  Workshop on “MS Excel & Power Point Presentation” was organized on 15th May 2015, at Institute Of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta by WIE affinity group. 14 participants attended the workshop.  Workshop on “Basics of Matlab” was organized on 24th July 2015, at Camellia Institute of Technology, Madhyamgram, West Bengal, by WIE affinity group  Workshop on “Fun of Mathematics” was organized on 3rd.  This year IEEE Kolkata Section celebrated IEEE Day on 5th. October, 2015, at Men’s Bar Extension of Calcutta Club. IEEE Day lecture was delivered by Prof. Bhargab Bhattacharyya of Advanced Computing & Microprocessor Unit (ACMU), ISI Kolkata. Prof Bhattacharyya gave a lively lecture on “Integrated Circuits: A Journey from Transistors to Intelligent Chips”. All enjoyed the celebration and requested for similar activities in future also.  Convolution-2015 – a three day technical meet was organized by the student members of Electrical Engineering Department, JU. The Programme was sponsored by PES, CSS-IMS & DEIS Chapters. Students from different engineering colleges in and around Kolkata participated in the programme.

 Silicon Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar

 Student branch IEEE of silicon Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar organized a one day workshop on ‘Earthing Practices’ on 20th Nov 2015. Mr H. Jaykumar former Joint Director CPRI Bangalore was invited to take two lectures and field demonstration of earth resistance measurement. The lectures to the post graduate students and faculty members covered the need for earthing, healthy and faulty practices, safety aspects and methods of improving equipment earthing. A few measurements were taken in two transformer substations in the campus and results were analyzed. The exposure was new to the students who took keen interest

IEEE KOLKATA SECTION 20

 A course entitled “Course on Object Oriented Programming (C++ and JAVA)” was organized by the IEEE Student Branch of University of Calcutta and sponsored by IEEE Kolkata Section. There were 54 participants from University of Calcutta, including B.Tech. & M.Tech. students, along with few research scholars, participated in this course. The venue of this course was B. R. Nag Auditorium, Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta.

 BIT Patna

 IEEE Student Branch BIT Patna successfully organised its 3-day annual technical fest “ABHIVYAKTI'15” from 30th October to 1st November 2015. The students actively participated with great zeal and grit in ten different events. Students from different engineering colleges in and around Kolkata participated in the programme.

B.9 Industry Relations  IEEE Kolkata Section has a Industry Relation Chair and organizes programmes in collaboration with the local industries.  There were special Industry participation programs for the post graduate and PhD research scholars in the Broadband Wireless Communication Laboratory of ETCE Department, Jadavpur University. This year two programs were organized :  Sep 21 and 22 where Mr. Ankur Tyagi of Eigen Technology participated in a training program on Sensor Network.  October 5 and 10 , 2015 where Scientech Technology personnel were involved for the training of Software Defined Radio on wireless system.

B.10 Community Activities

 This year IEEE Kolkata Section celebrated IEEE Day on 5th. October, 2015, at Men’s Bar Extension of Calcutta Club.  The relationship with National Societies like The Institution of Engineers (India), The Institute of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers India, Computer Society of India is cordial. PE Chapter arranged a lecture meeting with collaboration with The Institution of Engineers (India).

C.2 Special Events

 IEEE India Strategic Iniitiative – Entrepreneurship Programme & Internship Programme , was arranged in “Dr. Triguna Sen Memorial Auditorium “ of Jadavpur University, Kolkata on, 29th October 2015.  "Technological Innovation Award for Students 2015" : To recognize B.E / B.Tech and M.E / M.Tech / MS student projects / theses which address an important social and technological problem or have the potential to impact on national/ international need by advancing technology for humanity, IEEE Kolkata Section introduced this award this year. The final presentation was arranged on 22nd. December 2015 in the seminar room of Electrical Engineering Department of Jadavpur University.

C.3 Problems to be Anticipated

 Non-renewing members – persuasion for timely renewal.  Number of members from industry is low  Student member retention is low and some student branches become inactive - explore possibility of re-opening of student branch through incentive schemes . However new student branches are formed and new members are added every year  Involvement of members in section activities not as per expectation  Increased participation of section volunteers in national and international committees  Nominating deserving volunteers of the section for IEEE awards and recognitions

PART D – GOALS AND PLANS

D.1 Goals

 Retention of existing members through membership development programs like elevation to Senior Member grade, recognizing the efforts of active members by awarding them citations or personalized plaques.  Increasing activities of section by arranging more lecture meetings, not necessarily technical but also on public affairs, professional activities, educational trips for students to nearby industries.  To spread the message of IEEE within Kolkata Section jurisdiction.
