Having been a councillor since 1007, I was electe as Mayor at the start T of my tenth year on Council an it has been a great honour to re.resent the county as its first citiIen. One of the highlights of 1014 was acce.ting the Local Authority of the Year Awar on behalf of Fingal County Council at the Chambers Irelan E)cellence in Local Government Awar s. The awar reflecte the great work one on a aily basis for the citiIens of the county by our staff, across all e.artments, an was fully eserve . During my term I have ha the .leasure of atten ing a number of significant events for the County. A few ays after my election in 9une I ha the .leasure of being at Dublin Air.ort to welcome the Vice- Presi ent of the Unite States of America, 9oe Bi en, to Fingal an Irelan an it was also a great moment to re.resent the county at the All-Irelan Senior Football Final an Re.lay when Dublin e ge .ast Mayo to retain the Sam Maguire Cu. for the first time in 40 years. Many of the events I, an my .re ecessor, Cllr Davi OFConnor, atten e uring 1014 commemorate the centenary of the 1714 Rising. The Council .laye an im.ortant role in ensuring that the ee s of the Fingal volunteers were recalle an su..orte the film, FingalFs Finest , to ensure that their story will be .asse on to future generations. During 1014, we continue to work across all Council Directorates to W realise our vision for FingalL MTo be the .lace of choice to live, work, visit an o business in Irelan F. The .reliminary results from Census 1014 in icate that Fingal continues to grow an e).an an is Irelan Fs fastest growing County. It has almost ouble in the .ast 15 years, rising from 151,744 in 1771 to 174,114 in 1014. This growth .resents both a challenge an an o..ortunity for the County. A significant achievement uring 1014, was the .rovision of a framework for the evelo.ment of Fingal an its .o.ulation in the me ium-term through the a o.tion the a o.tion of the County Develo.ment Plan 1017- 1013. In a ressing the national challenge of housing an homelessness, Fingal County Council continues to work tirelessly to meet our national targets an su..ort those, at risk of or, in homeless circumstances. We are on track to e)cee our targets for the .rovision of social housing an working with all relevant agencies in elivering on the commitments in the various .illars of the Rebuil ing Irelan Action Plan for Housing an Homelessness. A ressing the housing challenge will continue to be a .riority for us in the years to come. Fingal County Council has embrace the o..ortunities .rovi e by the reforms set out in the Local Government Act 1014, an the Council is at the forefront in im.lementing these key changes. We are lea ing economic, social an community evelo.ment an elivering efficient an goo value services.
