In a totally unconnected subplot, Supes has to punch a crappy Doomsday-knockoff before having to fight an even more one-dimensional baddie called Khyber. It's not a two volume story. Each issue except for issue 1 featured a page main story by Busiek, with art by Mark Bagley, and a ten-page backup story co- written by Busiek and Fabian Nicieza, with art from various artists, including Tom Derenick, Mike Norton and Scott McDaniel. Bad: The storyline itself is a bit overstuffed and then feels rushed, not getting the organic feel of a epic that I think Busiek is trying to tell. Good character work, nice art, interesting set-up, but too little pay-out to make the book satisfying on its own. Overall, I don't really get a sense of urgency here, and I think it's because the villains are kind of stupid. The non-Superman parts are great.
