LITERATURE UPDATE FOR TEXAS FLESHY BASIDIOMYCOTA WITH NEW VOUCHERED RECORDS FOR SOUTHEAST TEXAS David P. Lewis Clark L. Ovrebo N. Jay Justice 262 CR 3062 Department of Biology 16055 Michelle Drive Newton, Texas 75966, U.S.A. University of Central Oklahoma Alexander, Arkansas 72002, U.S.A. [email protected] Edmond, Oklahoma 73034, U.S.A. [email protected] [email protected] ABSTRACT This is a second paper documenting the literature records for Texas fleshy basidiomycetous fungi and includes both older literature and recently published papers. We report 80 literature articles which include 14 new taxa described from Texas. We also report on 120 new records of fleshy basdiomycetous fungi collected primarily from southeast Texas. PART I—MYCOLOGICAL LITERATURE ON TEXAS FLESHY BASIDIOMYCOTA Lewis and Ovrebo (2009) previously reported on literature for Texas fleshy Basidiomycota and also listed new vouchered records for Texas of that group. Presented here is an update to the listing which includes literature published since 2009 and also includes older references that we previously had not uncovered. The authors’ primary research interests center around gilled mushrooms and boletes so perhaps the list that follows is most complete for the fungi of these groups. We have, however, attempted to locate references for all fleshy basidio- mycetous fungi.

  • Mushrooms in the Mekong Region – Review
Review published in: Fungi vol.8.1, 2015, p.39-40. Mushrooms in the Mekong Region – Review Daniel Winkler – Mushroaming.com There is an interesting new book out called "Mushrooms for Trees and People - A field guide to useful mushrooms of the Mekong Region”, by Peter Mortimer, Jianchu Xu, Samantha Karunarathna and Kevin Hyde containing 124 pages. It is published in Kunming, Yunnan, China by the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) and luckily there is also a free pdf download available on the humidtropics.cigar.org web pages. I love to read mushroom books from all kinds of regions around the world. As a trained geographer and fee-lance mushroamer I love to keep learning of the distribution range of species and genera and see what peoples' favorite mushrooms are in different corners of the world. While I had only limited exposure to the Asian tropics during mushroom season yet, I have been many times in the cold and warm-temperate zone of the Tibetan Plateau searching and researching fungi. I have crossed the upper Mekong known in Tibet as the Dza Chu, many times during my travels. I hunted morels high above its banks in the Tibetan areas of Yunnan and even threw rocks across the Mekong during caterpillar fungus season up in the hilly grasslands on the Kham-Amdo border in today’s Qinghai Province. But let’s get back to the book (or pdf), it presents 86 mushrooms found in the catchment of the mighty Mekong, some found on the Tibetan Plateau, but many more growing in subtropical and tropical reaches of the Mekong catchment area below, before it empties into the South China Sea in Southernmost Vietnam near the Cambodian border.

  • An Inventory of Fungal Diversity in Ohio Research Thesis Presented In
An Inventory of Fungal Diversity in Ohio Research Thesis Presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for graduation with research distinction in the undergraduate colleges of The Ohio State University by Django Grootmyers The Ohio State University April 2021 1 ABSTRACT Fungi are a large and diverse group of eukaryotic organisms that play important roles in nutrient cycling in ecosystems worldwide. Fungi are poorly documented compared to plants in Ohio despite 197 years of collecting activity, and an attempt to compile all the species of fungi known from Ohio has not been completed since 1894. This paper compiles the species of fungi currently known from Ohio based on vouchered fungal collections available in digitized form at the Mycology Collections Portal (MyCoPortal) and other online collections databases and new collections by the author. All groups of fungi are treated, including lichens and microfungi. 69,795 total records of Ohio fungi were processed, resulting in a list of 4,865 total species-level taxa. 250 of these taxa are newly reported from Ohio in this work. 229 of the taxa known from Ohio are species that were originally described from Ohio. A number of potentially novel fungal species were discovered over the course of this study and will be described in future publications. The insights gained from this work will be useful in facilitating future research on Ohio fungi, developing more comprehensive and modern guides to Ohio fungi, and beginning to investigate the possibility of fungal conservation in Ohio. INTRODUCTION Fungi are a large and very diverse group of organisms that play a variety of vital roles in natural and agricultural ecosystems: as decomposers (Lindahl, Taylor and Finlay 2002), mycorrhizal partners of plant species (Van Der Heijden et al.
