I have always felt that to have a Cornwall Council seat that included Fowey w th Tywardreath was illog cal - they are totally separate commun ties. I think 2 new seats could be made as follows: Take the Fowey parish wards out. Make 1 seat from the 3 wards of Tywardreath and Par Parish Council + St Blazey North ward (estimated at 5439 electors in 2023). Make a 2nd seat from St Blazey South ward + both wards of Carlyon parish + Charlestown ward of St Austell Bay parish (estimated at 4650 electors in 2023). Carlyon Bay is hardly separate from St Blazey, it makes no sense having a dividing line down Par Moor Road. Charlestown has links with St Blazey Gate - they now have the same vicar and the buses from St Blazey go through there. Some adjustment would probably have to be made as to where the line is drawn between the St Blazey parish wards - either ABN2 or 3 might have to be moved into St Blazey South to even up the numbers for each Cornwall Council seat. Location A triangular area on the south coast inland from St Austell Bay, extending north to Lanivet and north-eastwards parallel to the Fowey ria as far as Lostwithiel, wrapping around the eastern end of LCA 20 (Mid Cornwall Moors). Along the coast this Landscape Character Area extends from Duporth via Charlestown and St Austell and Par Sands to Gribbin Head and around to the edge of Fowey. Inland it includes the major settlement of St Austell, plus St Blazey and Tywardreath. Designations 3 LDUs are partly covered by the AONB designation; 3 are covered by the Heritage Coast designation - Gribbin Head to Polperro; 2 contain SSSIs; 3 are within the WHS Luxulyan Valley and 1 within the Charlestown Leat WHS. 4 LDUs contain SMs and 4 contain CGS. Description Stretching out to sea out at the headland at Gribben Head this is a wedge shaped section of high plateau land lying west of the Fowey Ria (LCA 21) and wrapping around the south of Hensbarrow Downs, (LCA17). In the north, fingers of high ground, notably Helman Tor stretch out onto the low lying ground of LCA 20 (Mid Cornwall Moors). The low rocky cliffs of the coastline forming the northern and eastern side of St Austell Bay are punctured by the wide alluvial estuary at Par Beach where extensive sands have built up in the mouth of the Par River.

    Cornwall Council Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment ANNEX 5 – Chronology of Major Flood Events in Cornwall June 2011 1800 – 1899 A storm caused coastal flooding affecting a number of communities along the south coast on 19-20 January 1817. Polperro harbour was destroyed by this storm and Looe was badly damaged. Truro suffered from numerous flooding events during the 1800s (1811, 1815, 1818, 1838, 1841, 1844, 1846, 1848 (twice), 1869, 1875, 1880, 1882 (twice), 1885, 1894 and 1899). These were usually associated with high river flows coinciding with high tides. Known as the Great Flood of 16 July 1847, due to an intense rainstorm event on Davidstow Moor water collected in the valley and forced a passage of water down the Camel and Inney. Bodmin - Dunmere Valley and the whole area below Dunmere Hill was flooded by the River Camel. Dunmere Bridge was washed away as was the new 40 feet (12 m) high railway bridge. At St. Breward, bridges from Gam Bridge to Dunmere were washed away by a wall of water 12 to 18 feet (3.5-5.5 m) above normal along the River Camel. The devastating floods that swept down from Davidstow Moor washed away all but two of the bridges along the River Camel - Wadebridge and Helland being the only survivors. Serious flooding occurred in Par and St Blazey in November 1852. November 1875 saw heavy rain resulting in serious flooding in Bude, Camelford, Polmorla, Hayle, St Just, Penzance and Truro. Extreme rainfall in October 1880 resulted in serious flooding in both Bodmin and Truro. It is not good because: Not enough of the families most in need are taking part in the centres’ activities and services across the locality. There are considerable differences in the numbers of families who are registered in different centres, with Newquay and St Columb centres registering many more than St Austell, Pondhu, St Blazey or the Clays. Partnerships with midwives and schools are not as well developed as those with health visitors. Partnerships are better in some areas than others and, as a result, the effectiveness of information sharing is inconsistent so that the centre does not hear quickly enough about new births. Adult learning and development are not yet embedded in the services offered. Systems to share information on the progress and outcomes of adults are insufficiently developed to evaluate the difference the learning makes to their lives. Some resources are not managed effectively to ensure their use is adding value to the lives of children and families. Parents are not sufficiently involved in the development of services or in decision making about the future of the centres.
