Last night’s win for the Quakes gives them a 12-3 mark against Visalia this year, including an incredible 8-1 here in Visalia. The club swept their only series here at Valley Strong Ballpark back in July, going 6-0. NORTH W L PCT GB Fresno 64 35 .646 - YESTERDAY’S GAME: Sauryn Lao had three hits and drove in three runs, while the pitching staff struck out 20 Visalia hitters, as San Jose 63 36 .636 1 part of a 9-4 win over the Rawhide on Thursday night. Quakes’ right-hander Emmett Sheehan fanned six batters and allowed just one Modesto 55 44 .556 9 hit over 2.1 innings to notch his first professional win in relief. Marco Hernandez slugged the game’s only home run, as his three-run Stockton 39 60 .394 25 blast in the second put the Quakes ahead to stay against Junior Mieses (2-7). The Quakes have now won two of three in this series. After finishing June with a .210 average, DeJesus has found his groove, batting .315 NORTH W L PCT GB in July and .310 so far in August, raising his average to .263 entering today’s game. In addition, he continues to lead the team in walks, Fresno 64 35 .646 +1 as he’s earned a league-high 64 walks. That’s good for a .383 OBP. Imanol Vargas (.348 avg), Ismael Alcantara (.319) and Sam McWilliams (.339) are all having their best months of the season, with Vargas leading the team with seven homers and 20 RBIs in just 19 games. YESTERDAY’S SCORES PLAYOFF UPDATE!: The 2021 Playoffs will look and feel differently than any other year, as this year’s edition will see the top two Modesto 5 Fresno 1 teams compete in a championship series, regardless of division. The Fresno Grizzlies currently have the best record in the league and Rancho Cucamonga 9 Visalia 4 have just a one-game lead over San Jose, who would be the #2 seed. Former Quake Diego Cartaya now profiles as LA’s best prospect. Rancho Cucamonga at Visalia, 6:00 PM ROBBIE PETO: Rancho will send Robbie Peto to the mound tonight, as he makes his 20th appearance and 18th start for the Modesto at Fresno, 6:50 PM Quakes. This will be Peto’s third appearance and second start against the Rawhide, as in two prior appearances, he’s 0-1 with an ERA Inland Empire at Stockton, 7:05 PM of 3.68. Peto has allowed three runs on six hits over 7.1 innings to the Rawhide this year. In his last outing overall, Peto allowed three San Jose at Lake Elsinore, 7:05 PM runs (two earned) on three hits over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus San Jose on August 20th. Peto signed with the Dodgers as an undrafted free agent in 2020 out of Stetson University. 2021 QUAKES AT A GLANCE KYLE BACKHUS: Visalia will go with lefty Kyle Backhus in game four of the series, as he makes his fifth start and first career 1st Half Record: 32-27 appearance against the Quakes. In his last outing overall, Backhus allowed just two unearned runs on only two hits in a win versus 2nd Half Record: 22-17 Fresno on August 21st here in Visalia. The lefty set career-bests with six strikeouts and five innings pitched in that game.
