Mahwah Public Library Adelphi Chamber Ensemble Alison Brewster Franzetti (piano) Sylvia Rubin (violin), Melissa Macy (violin), Sally Fillmore (viola), Genevieve Jeuck Sallemi (violin) Martha Calhoun (cello ), and Anne Taylor (viola) Sunday February 23, 2014 at 2:00 PM Brahms: Sextet for Strings no 1 in B flat major, Op. 18 Melissa Macy (Violin); Sylvia Rubin (Violin); Sally Fillmore (Viola); Genevieve Jeuck Sallemi (Viola), Martha Calhoun (Cello); Anne Taylor (Cello) Intermission Fauré: Quartet for Piano and Strings no 2 in G minor, Op. 45 Alison Brewster Franzetti (Piano); Sylvia Rubin (Violin); Genevieve Jeuck Sallemi (Viola); Anne Taylor (Cello) MARTHA CALHOUN (CELLO) holds a B.A. and a Masters of Music from the State University of New York at Stony Brook where she was a student of Bernard Greenhouse. She has also studied with Raya Garbousova and Timothy Eddy. She is an avid devotee of contemporary music and has worked with a number of composers including Bulent Arel and Daria Semegen, whose music she has recorded for Opus One. She was a founding member of the Long Island Pro Musica and continues to be a passionate chamber musician. In her other life, she is a Senior Counsel with the New York City Law Department, where she defends the City in class action lawsuits. SALLY FILLMORE (VIOLA) is an active chamber and orchestra musician. She currently plays with the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra of New Jersey. She has recently played with the Park Avenue Chamber Orchestra and Lawyers Orchestra in New York City, the Livingston Symphony Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Orchestra in New Jersey. Sally has studied chamber music at Mannes School of Music in New York and Montclair State University. She has participated in chamber music workshops for many years with the Manhattan String Quartet and at the Manhattan School of Music. For five years she was the Executive Director of the Waterville Valley Music Center in New Hampshire and teaches violin at the Cornelia Connelly School in New York City. She has studied viola with Oscar Ravina, Peter Kenote and Brett Deubner ALLISON BREWSTER FRANZETTI (PIANO) received a BM degree from the Manhattan School of Music, MM degree from the Juilliard and DMA from Rutgers University. She was a 2008 Grammy® Nominee for Best Instrumental Soloist without Orchestra for "20th Century Piano Sonatas" on Naxos Records, Allison Brewster Franzetti has received international acclaim from critics and audiences alike for stunning virtuosity and musicality. She has performed with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, Long Island Philharmonic, English Sinfonia, City of Prague Philharmonic, Denver Symphony, Colonial Symphony, Queens Symphony, European Women’s Orchestra, Buenos Aires Philharmonic, Janacek Philharmonic, and City of Prague Philharmonic. Solo recitals include critically acclaimed debuts at Merkin Hall, New York and Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires, a special performance at the Grammy® Salute to Classical Music honoring Lang Lang and Earl Wild, and concerts throughout the US, Mexico, Europe, Argentina and Japan. She is a 2003 Grammy® Award Nominee and a 2002 Latin Grammy® Award Nominee.An accomplished chamber musician, Ms. Franzetti has collaborated with renowned composers and performers Sir James Galway, John Corigliano, Carlos Franzetti, Lowell Liebermann, and Robert White. GENEVIEVE R. SALLEMI (VIOLA) Internationally known violist and violinist, Genevieve Jeuck, started her performance career from the early age of 6 years old when she was selected to perform at Carnegie Hall's Isaac Stern auditorium with many other talented children to benefit the New York School for Strings. Since then,Genevieve has attended and performed at many prestigious summer festivals such as Mead- owmount School for Strings, the Academy of Music Summer Festival, and the International Academy of Music in Tuscany, Italy. She has performed in master classes with Emanuel Borok, Mikhail Kopelman, Sergei Ostrovsky, Bracha Malkin and the American String Quartet. In 2010, Genevieve was chosen to participate in the orchestra for the Kurt Masur conducting seminar. Genevieve's primary teachers and mentors have been Anat Malkin-Almani, Leonid Polishchuk, Isaac Malkin and famed members of the American String Quartet Laurie Carney and Dan Avshalomov. Genevieve holds degrees in fine arts and viola performance from Ramapo College of NJ and Manhattan School of Music, consecutively. She currently plays on a 1998 Boris Sverdlik viola and violin. MELISSA MACY (VIOLIN) graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and Violin Performance, and later received her Master's of Music in Violin Performance from the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase. She is grateful to the prodigious musicians who have instructed and inspired her, primarily; Sandra Dackow, Louis Bergonzi, Leynn Blakeslee, Laurie Smuckler, and Joey Corpus. After completing her formal education, Melissa spent five years as an orchestra director in the Bergenfield school district. She has also worked with groups such as the Ridgewood Festival of Strings and the Northern New Jersey Youth Orchestra as a conductor and sectional leader. Melissa also continues to perform, having performed as soloist with the Hawthorne Symphony Orchestra, and is first violinist of her string quartet, the Devonshire Players. A wife, and mother of two, Melissa enjoys playing with the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra, and maintains a private violin studio. SYLVIA RUBIN (VIOLIN) is an active chamber and orchestra musician. She currently performs in the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra, Amore Opera, Utopia Opera and the Ridgewood Gilbert and Sullivan Players. She is a regular performer in chamber concerts at the New York City Bar Association, area libraries in New Jersey with the Adelphi Chamber Ensemble and recently at Weill Recital Hall. She studies chamber music at the Mannes College of Music and violin with Eriko Sato. She is a regular participant at the chamber music conference at Bennington College, Raphael Trio Workshop and Starling-Delay symposium at Juilliard.She received her formal musical training at the University of Michigan, Kent State University and in Akron, Ohio. Sylvia holds a BS in Medical Technology from Kent State University and a Masters of Electrical Engineering and a Electrical Engineering degree from Northeastern University in Boston. She spends her time managing the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra and is a mother of three children. ANNE L. TAYLOR MD (CELLO) is currently Professor of Medicine and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. She obtained her undergraduate degree Hofstra University and studied cello with Benar Heifetz at Manhattan School of Music. She received her medical degree from the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine with research training at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Iowa. She joined the faculty at Columbia University in November, 2007. Dr. Taylor is a cello student of Alan Stepansky and has participated in a large number of chamber music programs including the Alaria Chamber Music program, the Bennington Chamber Music Conference, the Raphael Trio Workshop, the Manhattan String Quartet Workshop, and the Lake Placid Arts Institute Chamber Music Seminar. .
