The Industry and Economy • One in seven jobs in Oklahoma is directly or indirectly supported by the oil and natural gas industry. • In 2006, Oklahoma's oil and natural gas producers paid more than $1 billion in gross production taxes. That's $1 out of every $6 the state spent on education, roads, bridges, wildlife conservation and other state programs. • The oil and natural gas producers and royalty owners who support the OERB have voluntarily contributed $40 million to restore more than 8,000 abandoned well sites across Oklahoma. • In 2006, the total output from the oil and natural gas industry in Oklahoma reached more than $23 billion. • More than 60,000 Oklahomans have energy-related jobs, and these workers support another 186,000 jobs indirectly. That means nearly 250,000 jobs statewide are provided directly or indirectly by the oil and natural gas industry.
