DECLARATION PREFACE The Government First Grade College, Pandavapura, established in the academic year 2007-08, has been an important contributor to education and empowerment of rural students in and around Pandavapurataluk. The College, with its focus on its Vision, Mission and Goal, is emerging as a premier institution since its establishment. To begin with, the College introduced Arts,Science, Commerce and Management programmes. At present, the College is in its own building with two satellite campuses. A few of the Arts and Commerce classes are held in the satellite campuses. The College has an active website and IQAC. An efficient, well-qualified and dedicated staff along with the best administrative faculty has been the institution‘s strength and this, in turn, has contributed to a good teaching-learning environment. Although the College is in the developing stage, it has excelled in many ways, in terms of quality as also admissions. The students too, have brought laurels to the College. Place: Pandavapura Prof. Siddaramu Date: Principal EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Pandavapura is a town in Mandya District in Karnataka. It is the administrative (Taluk) centre of Pandavapurataluk. Mythologically this town used to be called ―Pandavapura‖ meaning ‗a place which gave shelter to Pandavas and their mother. It is 28 kilometers away from Mysuru. It is located on the State Highway of Mysore to Bidar. The college is established in 2007 to cater to the educational needs of rural students. It helped rural girls to seek higher education at their door-step. It is a remarkable thing because if not for this college, higher education would have been a mirage to these rural girls. It has grown from year to year and now it offers undergraduate courses in Arts and Humanities, Pure Sciences and Commerce and Management. This college which started with a humble strength of 157 students in 2007 has risen to 736 in 2013-14. The Institute has to its credit well qualified, dedicated staff who not only teach the concerned subjects, but also act as mentors to students. Prof. Siddaramu, who has a good teaching experience, is currently leading the college with his able administration. As the present campus of 50/200 yards is insufficient to cater to the growing needs of the students, attempts are made to acquire a spacious site of 10 acres that can answer theneeds. The strength of the Institution is its qualified and committed faculty members, industrious administrative staff, the various Programmes and Cells funded by State Government, good academic ambience and the enthusiastic students. The College has always been in the frontline in fulfilling its social objectives in terms of educational attainments and producing quality individuals. The strength of the students at present is 662 and the strength of the faculty is 46 (14 PermanentStaff+ 32 Guest Faculty) with 4 non-teaching staff. 04 among the teaching staff members are Doctorate holders, 03 of them are pursuing PhD,12 of them have M.Phil degree and 12 of them have qualified in the NET/SLET examinations. The College has prepared Self Study Report with relevant information on its notable programmes under each criterion. The highlights of the criteria-wise analysis is as follows: Having completed 7 years of valuable educational service, the college now offers degree programmes in Arts, Commerce, Management and Science at the Under graduate level to meet the needs of the rural youth. The college is affiliated to the Mysore University and follows the Semester Scheme pattern. The university updates the syllabus as and when required and our Institution follows its curriculum strictly. The admission to various courses is made in accordance with the regulations specified by Government of Karnataka and Mysore University. The primary objective of the Institution is to enable the students to cope with the demands of the contemporary global scenario through effective transaction of the curricular and co-curricular aspects. Academic excellence, personality development and social orientation are our guiding principles. Our objective is to provide quality education to the rural youth, hailing mostly from the farming class who belong to marginalized and weaker sections of the society and transform them into better individuals so that they contribute constructively towards national goals by upholding the values of secularism, national integration and social commitment. The objectives of the College are made known to the stakeholders through the College website and College prospectus. To implement the curriculum effectively enrichment programmes such as Workshops, special lectures, group discussions, seminars, village camps, industrial visits, etc., are organized. According to the rules and regulations of the University and the State Government, the College maintains transparency in the admission process as the process of admission is fully computerized. There is an Admission Committee in the College. It scrutinizes all the admission forms of aspiring student and takes due care of the norms prescribed by the State Government and the affiliating university regarding the eligibility of candidates. The admission committee members conduct counseling and help the students in the admission process. The students are admitted on first come first served basis. IQAC contributes to improve the teaching–learning process by planning for new courses at UG level, introducing more teaching aids to improve the teaching–learning process and encourage innovative practices. It facilitates support for interdisciplinary programme and faculty development programme. Teachers are evaluated by students once a year. Feedback is processed and analyzed by the Principal; later, the results are intimated personally to the teachers. Suggestions are given by the Principal, if necessary. The College consists of a good number of PhD scholars contributing to establishing a research culture among the staff and the students. Special lecture, student seminar and workshops are conducted frequently by the concerned departments. The Institution has been recognized under 2(f) of the UGC Act and is processing the inclusion of this Institution under 12(b) of UGC act. With the inclusion, many of the faculty members who are very enthusiastic to undertake research activities in their respective areas will be provided opportunities to pursue their zeal for research. Our College is well equipped with library, laboratories, furniture and equipments and sports ground. The College is providing an ample opportunity to the students to participate in various extracurricular activities, sports, NSS, Red ribbon club, etc. Computers are freely accessible to the students to enhance their job skills. Library with huge quantum of books is kept open access to borrow books. The partially automated library is to be shortly switched over to completely automated one with maximum access to the library collection. Karnataka is consistently striving to improve human development parameters in education, nutrition and health through many initiatives and well-conceived programmes. However, it is still a matter of concern that certain pockets of the State have not shown as much improvement as desried in the human development parameters. Human resource is the real wealth of any State. Sustainable growth and advancement is not feasible without human development. It is expected that these reports will throw light on the unique development challenges within each district, and would provide necessary pointers for planners and policy makers to address these challenges.

Abstract— Karnataka being predominantly a dry farming state, Irrigation development in the state as compared to other states and the country as a whole is low. Drought is a serious problem in the state. The development of watershed area adopting integrated approach is only the key answer and is no more a secret. The Melukote sub-watershed divided into two mini and twelve micro watersheds based on the origin and flow direction of water drains / streams. Water harvesting and drainage line treatment structures were located based on the analysis of both topo-sheet and imagery of the area and taking other factors into consideration (Soil, slope and type, land use / cover, waste lands, hydro-morphology, population (labors / SC & ST population), forest cover, command area, etc.) Micro-watershed prioritization plays key role in identifying the micro-watershed, which needs immediate attention these can be taken for development with available resources, an attempt has been made for prioritization of micro-watershed based on several criteria and the total weightage of marks given was 100. Data pertaining to these criteria were generated by remote sensing and GIS and other resources.
