This annual tribute honoring the Massachusetts war dead from the Revolution through today is sponsored by the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund with support from John Hancock. Hundreds of volunteers planted the fl ags before the long weekend and watched over this holiday tribute throughout. A ceremony was held at 10:30 am on the Thursday prior to Memorial Day where the names of all the military personnel who have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan were read. U.S. Rep David Jolly, R-Florida, said the Veterans Administration cut off benefi ts to more than 4,200 folks nationwide after declaring them dead. However, said Jolly, “they were very much alive,” and their benefi ts restored after the VA looked into things.
