When Superstars Become Human When Superstars Become Human By Kristen Sanne, New York City-based Entrepreneur Fans of Steve Martin like him for a myriad of different reasons. Some remember him from the silly slapstick of The Jerk. Others love Roxanne or even his cameos in various iterations of The Muppets. Then there’s Steve Martin, the banjo-playing bluegrass man. Comedian Steve Martin Curates Show Of Lawren Harris.. (Source: Twitter) But now Martin is once again re-inventing his public brand. The actor and comedian has been booked to preview an exhibition of artist Lawren Harris’ work, which will soon go on display at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. Few outside the world of fine art and, presumably, family and friends, realized the versatile Martin was such a fan. But Martin is, indeed, a very dedicated patron and follower of the fine art culture and marketplace. This appearance should make that abundantly clear. Entrepreneur David Milberg noted, “From a personal perspective, it’s just one guy indulging in a healthy hobby, but, from a public relations perspective, there are ramifications. Sure, Martin will likely receive nothing but a few raised eyebrows and a smattering of “who woulda thought” comments from fans, but anytime an established brand moves outside that established defining zone, there can be consequences. Sometimes those results are spectacular. Other times, not so much.” Examples of successful personal rebranding includeBill Murray, who was once a go-to funny man, a comedic hero of millions and frequent collaborator with Harold Ramis, his Ghostbusters co-star, in the 80s and 90s. Most fans fell in love with Murray in Ghostbusters, What About Bob, and Groundhog Day. Then there were a few weird “art house” movies that surprised and perplexed fans. Murray didn’t seem to mind his fan base’s universal confusion, but producers were less confident. Then the other shoe dropped. Murray began to make fun of himself. First appearing in the cult hit Zombieland, a cameo in which he is killed in his own home after a practical joke goes bad. Then Murray began randomly showing up places in NYC simply to interact with fans. Social media transformed Murray’s brand from eccentric actor to cultural treasure. Another similar transformation? George Takei. The former Star Trek ensign transformed a career that has been relegated to the convention circuit into a social media cult following with an entirely new generation of fans mimicking his trademark: “Ohhh myyyy.” Of course, there have been some rebranding disasters. Anyone remember rocker, Chris Gaines? Rest assured Garth Brooks hopes you don’t. So, will life as a public art appreciator suit the man most people still fondly call “The Jerk”? The jury’s still out … but don’t be surprised if at least one oblivious fan chooses to greet Martin with a Three Amigos pelvic thrust. .

  • Steve Martin
Steve Martin Steve Martin has become one of the world's best-known comedic personalities. Oddly enough, he started out studying philosophy and wanted to become a college professor in the subject. He is a member of Mensa International (an organization for people with very high IQs). His studies, though, turned him in the exact opposite direction. He dropped out of college to pursue a career in comedy writing for numerous television shows before going solo as a stand-up comedian. His experience in philosophy taught him to try ridiculous twists that launched a great career and numerous world renowned catch phrases. Stephen Glenn Martin, born August 14, 1945, is an American comedian, writer, producer, actor, musician and composer. He was born in Waco, Texas and raised in Orange County, California, he worked at Knott’s Berry Farm and Disneyland in concessions. Steve credits this with the beginning of his love for entertainment. He developed his skills in playing the banjo, lassoing, juggling, making balloon animals and improvisational comedy. When he went to college at California State University, long Beach he majored in philosophy. His goal was to become a philosophy professor, but something in his studies changed his mind. “In philosophy, I started studying logic, and they were talking about cause and effect, and you start to realize, ‘Hey, there is no cause and effect! There is no logic! There is no anything!" Then it gets real easy to write this stuff, because all you have to do is twist everything hard - you twist the punch line, you twist the non sequitur so hard away from the things that set I up, that it's easy..

  • March 19, 2020 I Love Goofy Comedy Movies. in an Effort to Keep A
March 19, 2020 I love goofy comedy movies. In an effort to keep a positive attitude today, this movie jumped into my mind. If you haven’t seen it or don’t watch the clip I attached in the paragraph below, this email will probably seem really weird. I am very close to my two 1st cousins. 30 years ago, while on a family vacation in Mexico, the 3 of us became known within the family as the Three Amigos. We modeled it after the Oscar worthy movie from 1986 starring Chevy Chase as Dusty Bottoms, Steve Martin as Lucky Day and Martin Short as Ned Nederlander. We each were a character (I am Ned), we had the sombreros and we even did and still do the “Amigo Salute” when together. Three decades later we still go by those names. The premise of this wacky comedy is that the Three Amigos are silent film stars who are mistaken for real heroes by people in a small Mexican village that is being terrorized by the terrible bandit El Guapo. Three Amigos is one of the most quotable movies of the 80s in my opinion and among the most memorable scenes is this short gem with Lucky Day rallying the village against their enemy-- El Guapo. Make sure to watch-- Everyone Has Their El Guapo. Updating that quote to today might be more like: “Everybody has their El Guapo. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo, for others, fear of heights might be their El Guapo. For us, unfortunately, El Guapo is a scary invisible virus.” My cousin, Lucky Day sells cars at an auto dealership, his brother Dusty Bottoms works for American Airlines and I, Ned Nederlander, obviously am an Investment Advisor.

  • Martin Short Judge, Canada's Got Talent
Martin Short Judge, Canada’s Got Talent Martin Short was born in Hamilton, Ont., where he lived and worked until graduating from McMaster University with a degree in social work. His comedic talents were undeniable, and his prowess for slapstick supreme. It was no surprise when he chose a career in comedy. He started out small, with tiny roles on American television. He appeared in two series, The Associates and I’m a Big Girl Now. His first big break came in 1982 in the form of a role on SCTV: Network 90, the American version of the hit Canadian comedy series SCTV. After one year, he returned to his country of birth to appear in the original SCTV. Short won an Emmy, a Gemini, and the Earl Grey Award for his work in SCTV. The show brought him to the attention of the country and also to fellow Canuck-turned-television producer Lorne Michaels. Short was lured south of the border once more to appear in Michaels’ Saturday Night Live, where he stayed for only a year. The year was enough, however, for Americans to take notice. Short was ready for bigger things, and bigger screens. Short got his big-screen debut in Three Amigos, a film which starred fellow SNL alums Chevy Chase and Steve Martin.Since then, he has been on a steady roll and has continued to appear in comedic films. Short usually appears in co-starring and supportive roles, such as the character of Franck, in Steve Martin’s Father of the Bride films. Along with his feature film work, Short has also always had a penchant for the stage.
