Carers from Derby City Council e’s Her Carers the key to rting Derby City is getting help suppo Do you look after someone? Many people who look after someone do not see themselves as carers. But you are a carer if you provide unpaid practical and/or emotional support to someone who needs help because they are ill, frail or have a disability — this could be a physical difficulty, a hearing or sight loss, a learning disability or mental ill health. Filling in a Carers’ Self Assessment form can be the first step towards getting support for you as a carer. If you need help to complete the form, or you prefer to talk to someone about your needs, just contact Adult Social Services on 01332 717777 minicom 01332 206180 www.derby.gov.uk 3026064 8 Derby Access and Information Guide for Disabled People Editorial_307870.qxd 30/8/12 12:27 Page 9 Foreword by the Mayor of the City of Derby Councillor Amar Nath This is the seventh edition of the Derby Access and Information Guide for Disabled People, produced in partnership with Burrows Communications Limited. I know how important access to information is in delivering opportunity and choice to disabled people. This guide, like previous editions provides this information with contact details for many City Centre traders, local organisations and Council services. The Council, in partnership with local organisations of disabled people and the business community continues the drive towards a barrier-free built environment for all citizens, and visitors to the City. I hope this guide complements the excellent levels of accessibility and customer services provided by many City Centre businesses and organisations. Finally, I’d like to say a big thank you to all the businesses, organisations and Council services that have supported the guide through advertising. They have made this guide possible. I hope you find the guide helpful. Best wishes Mayor of the City of Derby Councillor Amar Nath Derby Access and Information Guide for Disabled People 9 Editorial_307870.qxd 30/8/12 12:27 Page 10 Get free bus travel with GoldGold CardCard The national concessionary travel pass known in Derby and Derbyshire as Gold Card gives older and disabled people free off peak bus travel.
