NOTICE OF ELECTION Central Bedfordshire Election of a Councillor for ELECTION OF COUNCILLOR TO LEIGHTON-LINSLADE TOWN COUNCIL FOR THE LEIGHTON-LINSLADE (PART) ST GEORGE`S WARD 1. An Election is to be held of One Councillor for Election of Councillor to Leighton-Linslade Town Council for the Leighton-LInslade (Part) St George`s ward. 2. Forms of nomination for the Parish Election may be obtained from Clerk to Parish Council or Unit 2, Bury Farm, Mill Lane, Stotfold. SG5 4NU from the Deputy Returning Officer who will, at the request of an elector for any electoral area prepare a nomination paper for signature. 3. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Deputy Returning Officer, Unit 2, Bury Farm, Mill Lane, Stotfold. SG5 4NU on any day after the date of this notice but no later than 4 pm on Thursday, 8th April 2021. 4. If any election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday, 6th May 2021. 5. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Priory House, Monks Walk, Chicksands, Shefford, Bedfordshire, SG17 5TQ by 5 pm on Tuesday, 20th April 2021. 6. Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Priory House, Monks Walk, Chicksands, Shefford, Bedfordshire, SG17 5TQ by 5 pm on Tuesday, 27th April 2021. 7. Lewis. 2 Declaration of Interest Councillors were reminded that they should declare an interest in any matter of personal or prejudicial interest to be discussed at this meeting. Information about this requirement had been on the table. 3 Public Participation Session The Chairman welcomed the members of the public and asked if they had any questions. The Chairman spoke about a recent posting on the We Love Potton facebook about the Cemetery. A discussion with regards to grass cutting and bare earth in the Cemetery. It was suggested that grass cutting is undertaken in the Cemetery in advance of Mother’s Day and other significant events and signage is installed fore bare earth. The Chairman then spoke about a comment made in the same posting with regards “…. all they are interested in is lining their own pockets.”. The Chairman advised this is a serious accusation about town cllrs and staff and the comment is completely ill informed and libellous.

To report the outcome of the statutory consultation to expand Roecroft Community Lower School, Stotfold and to recommend approval of the proposal and commencement of the capital project. The school is located within the Stotfold and Langford Ward. 2. To seek Executive support for proposed consultations to provide new Lower School places in Leighton Buzzard from September 2015. The schools referred to within the report serve the Leighton Buzzard South Ward. 3. To report to the Executive the implications arising from the 2014/15 refresh of the Council’s School Organisation Plan and New School Places programme. 4. To provide the Executive with advice on new area guidelines published by the Education Funding Agency on behalf of the Department for Education for mainstream school buildings and grounds for all age ranges from 4 to 19, and also advice on the Council’s School’s Sustainable Design Brief. RECOMMENDATIONS 1(i). Lord's Hill Restoration NNR Launch at Rushmere

To enlarge the images on this e-newsletter use the page zoom function) Lord’s Hill Restoration First week in July and another good turnout of voles set about removing the birch saplings, brambles and gorse from the Lord’s Hill area of Rushmere. As shown below the heather has already made a recovery since the pine forested area was felled in 2013 This task was undertaken in preparation for a short walk in the recently added extension to the National Nature Reserve, arranged for the visiting dignitaries at the scheduled launch on the 12th July. (Details about the NNR extension to include Rushmere Country Park were covered in the previous summer issue of the newsletter). The dense conifer plantation had covered Lords Hill for about 70 years until contractors removed them as part of a conservation plan to restore the area to its original heathland. Initially the volunteers had several tasks to gradually remove and burn the large amount of brash left behind. Many new flowers and plants have already began to appear which includes the unwanted 3B’s (birch, brambles & bracken) which the volunteers have regularly removed. As expected however the heather began to return, the seeds of which have laid dormant just waiting for the right conditions. Heather seeds can lie dormant for many years, even in the areas that have been overgrown for 50+ years. They will still germinate once they are exposed to daylight and - if the area stays open - grow into new plants, as seen in the above picture where the heather is already about a foot high.
