2 Presentation of the 2010 Season

¾ INTRODUCTION

One championship, one category, 34 cars, 8 brands with 10 models represented on a single grid. The FIA GT3 European Championship is now entering its fifth season, and continues to go from strength to strength.

The GT3 category has quickly taken over as the major category for National GT Championships around Europe, as well as engendering brand-new series, such as the extremely successful ADAC GT Masters in Germany and the Brazilian GT3 Championship.

Steady progress with makes...Eight brands were represented in the first season of the FIA GT3 European Championship, moving up to nine brands and ten models in 2008. In 2009 the arrival of BMW Alpina and , brought the total to 12 brands represented.

This level of involvement continues to grow, with the welcome addition of the BMW Z4 GT3, Gallardo LP560, Porsche 911 GT3 R and the Ford Mustang Marc VDS GT3 for the 2010 season and with more manufacturers producing cars to compete next season, such as the newly launched Mercedes SLS GT3.

2010, another unique and exciting season to look forward to.

6 What’s new in 2010?

¾ A NEW LOGO AND A NEW WEBSITE ADDRESS

Having been awarded world championship status by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, SRO appointed Interstate Associates to help evaluate, research and re-design the brand identity of the FIA GT1 World Championship and the FIA GT3 European Championship. The new FIA GT3 European Championship logo introduces a level of crafting and detail that aligns well with the quality of the cars competing and the professionalism and global ambitions of SRO.

¾ PRIORITY FOR THE FIA GT1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS

The teams participating to the new FIA GT1 World Championship have the possibility to enter a 2-car team in the FIA GT3 European Championship even if it exceeds the maximum number of cars for that model.

¾ ACCIDENT DATA RECORDER

The FIA GT3 Championship is proud to be a part of the FIA Institute Programme for Accident Data Recorders (ADR). SRO will provide each team, at Silverstone, with an ADR ‘black box’ for each car entered, to be installed in position agreed with the FIA Institute. The ADR system for GT3; the N10 by Independent Witness Inc, is a low maintenance stand alone system requiring no electrical connection, and the internal batteries will power the system for an entire season. Data from this system will be analysed by the FIA Institute and stored on the FIA accident database. The data will provide an immensely valuable tool to support the development of improved race car safety design and enhanced driver protective equipment.

7 What’s new in 2010?

¾ NEW MODELS JOINING THE CHAMPIONSHIP

BMW Z4 GT3

The BMW Z4 GT3, which was officially launched and completed its first test drives at the start of March, is already enjoying great popularity among BMW Motorsport customers. The first cars have been delivered to private BMW teams, who will prepare them for use in various national and international championships. “The feedback on the BMW Z4 GT3 is extremely positive,” says BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. The production model of the BMW Z4 is already impressive: with its elongated bonnet, flared wheel arches, long wheel base and narrow projections.

FORD MUSTANG MARC VDS GT3

The latest addition to the GT3 grid weighs in at just 1350kg and features a 5.3 litre V8 engine, which produces 560BHP. These performance figures, combined with the all-new transaxle on the Ford Mustang Marc VDS GT3 guarantee that the car will be a serious contender during it's debut season. The first car, with the chassis number MVDS001/001, was built by the team's project partner Multimatic in Canada before being shipped to the United Kingdom, where it underwent a successful initial shakedown test at Ford's European test facility near Luton.

8 What’s new in 2010

¾ HOMOLOGATED EVOLUTIONS OF EXISTING GT3 CARS

PORSCHE 997 GT3 R

The main focus for Porsche in developing this new model, the 911 GT3 R, was to get better drivability and easier handling. The 911 GT3 R is powered by a four-litre six-cylinder boxer engine delivering maximum output of 480 bhp (353 kW) transmitted to the rear axle by a sequential six-speed dog gearbox. The starting point in developing the 911 GT3 R weighing just 1,200 kg or 2,646 lb was the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup presented in September for one-make cup racing. Thanks to its increase in engine size by 0.2 litres, the GT3 R offers 30 bhp more than the Cup model. Both cars are based on the extra-wide body of the 911 GT3 RS street-legal sports car. An anti-lock brake system (ABS), traction control and an e- gas with “throttle-blip” function make it much easier to get used to this new GT3 racing car than its predecessor, meaning that the new model is also more appropriate for the ambitious amateur racing driver.

LAMBORGHINI GALLARDO LP560

The REITER Lamborghini LP560 GT3 was tested for the first time in public and is more efficient than its victorious predecessor: More power, improved suspension geometry, refined and optimised aerodynamics and a reduction in weight are key factors for the performance increase. In addition the car scores with an innovative 2-in-1 concept. The new car is based on the production Lamborghini LP560-4. The REITER LP560 GT3 is equipped with a completely new and more powerful 5.2 litre V10 engine producing 570 PS (419.2 kW) at 8,000 rpm. It also develops significantly more torque than its predecessor – namely 540 Nm at 6,500 rpm. An EFI Euro 12 ECU performs the engine management. With its new car REITER Engineering aims to continue the winning ways of its GT3 model series.

THE EVENT ¾ THE FIA GT EVENTS

The 2010 FIA GT3 European Championship will benefit from the ambiance and entertainment organised at the FIA GT1 World Championship events. As well as plenty of action on track, with a packed timetable including exciting Motorsport action from dawn to dusk and sometimes beyond, the spectators at the event are never lost for things to do!

Autograph sessions, where the public can meet the drivers and get a copy of the event poster signed. Supercar park: for street-going versions of the cars on track, the owners of the most beautiful cars attending the FIA GT Events have the opportunity to park their cars in the paddock to the delight of the spectators. Paddock entertainment: there is always plenty going on, such as an opportunity for children to meet Roary the Racing Car in Silverstone. A fabulous Air Show with an Albatros at the Paul Ricard as well as a race between a car and a motorbike. And to round off the season, a parade of Corvette cars in Zolder, with a grand total of 120 cars on the track!

¾ THE DRIVERS Championship eligibility procedure

In the FIA GT3 European Championship, two drivers must share the same car. Since the start of the Championship, each driver’s eligibility has been assessed by the FIA and SRO, in order to apply this fundamental principle of the Championship.

Each driver wishing to compete in the FIA GT3 European Championship has to complete the driver eligibility form (www.gt3driverrecords.fia.com) to be officially classified in the Championship in one of the four different categories: Platinum (professional drivers), Gold (young and very experienced drivers), Silver (experienced drivers) and Bronze (non-professional drivers).

When we launched the Championship in 2005, the concept was to provide real Gentlemen drivers with new racing opportunities however it became clear over the last two seasons that we moved away from this initial idea with young drivers pairings leaving no chances to the Pro-am combinations as proven by the results of the 2009 Championship. Therefore the category definitions have been reviewed to allow the comeback of real non-professional drivers in the Championship – please see thereafter.

Should you wish to get more information on this, please do not hesitate to contact SRO.
