The FIA GT3 European Championship is now entering its fifth season, and continues to go from strength to strength. The GT3 category has quickly taken over as the major category for National GT Championships around Europe, as well as engendering brand-new series, such as the extremely successful ADAC GT Masters in Germany and the Brazilian GT3 Championship. Steady progress with makes...Eight brands were represented in the first season of the FIA GT3 European Championship, moving up to nine brands and ten models in 2008. In 2009 the arrival of BMW Alpina and Audi, brought the total to 12 brands represented. Now, the R8 LMS ultra is receiving another update – plus Audi Sport customer racing aims to conquer the US market in 2013 as well. In the United States, the brand with the four rings is recording stronger growth than the US market as a whole, especially in the prestigious large-premium-car segment. Through racing activities in the field of customer sport, Audi intends to support this trend over the long run. An extended commitment by Audi Sport customer racing in the GRAND-AM Series will kick off this project in the 2013 season. Audi customer teams will be running there with support from Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm and by Audi of America. And the first event is also the most difficult one of the year: the 24-hour race at Daytona (Florida) on January 26/27, 2013. Strong line-up at Daytona 24 Hours The Audi factory drivers Filipe Albuquerque, Oliver Jarvis and Edoardo Mortara will be competing at the American endurance classic in an Audi R8 GRAND-AM of Team Alex Job Racing. -

With premium quality in products and support Audi Sport’s customer racing department occupies an outstanding position in a tough competitive environment – in as many as four racing categories. In addition, Audi Sport customer racing in 2019 supports commitments in the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the FIA GT World Cup, in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup and at stand-alone events such as the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The four rings have been firmly established also in customer sport since 2009. Following Audi’s successes in rally racing, in touring car racing and in the sports prototype category, the brand started offering products specifically designed for customers a decade ago. During the first decade the company developed six different models. Everything began in GT3 racing with the Audi R8 LMS that was followed in 2015 by the second generation and is now starting to the 2019 season as an evolution. In 2011, the Audi TT RS that was particularly successful in endurance racing was the second model in the program. In 2015, the Audi TT cup car for one- make racing complemented the portfolio. Nürburgring. The 45th edition of the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring (GER) is underway – and the BMW teams have started the endurance classic in the Eifel mountains without any major incidents. At 20:00, a total of four BMW M6 GT3 cars are positioned within the top 10 of the overall standings. The highest placed BMW is the #42 of BMW Team Schnitzer, driven by Augusto Farfus (BRA), Marco Wittmann (GER), Martin Tomczyk (GER) and Tom Blomqvist (GBR) in sixth position. In hot and sunny conditions, with temperatures up to 27 degrees Celsius, the field of 160 cars started the journey through the “Green Hell” at 15:30. The BMW drivers did not take any risks in the early stages and soon got into their rhythm. Only the team of Walkenhorst Motorsport experienced some bad luck: the #101 BMW M6 GT3 dropped back due to technical issues but is still in the race. The endurance test for the new BMW M4 GT4 is going well so far. Dirk Adorf (GER), who takes part in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring for the 25th time, BMW Motorsport Junior Ricky Collard (GBR), Jörg Weidinger (GER) and Jethro Bovingdon (GBR) are currently 42nd overall. -

A total of ten Audi R8 LMS cars are going to compete in the German GT sports car series. The ADAC GT Masters is one of the best-filled national GT3 series around the globe. Since 2009, teams in the ADAC GT Masters have been relying on Audi’s GT3 sports cars, but never before has the R8 LMS been as popular as this year. “We look forward to welcoming three new teams – Aust Motorsport, Car Collection Motorsport and Montaplast by Land-Motorsport – in our circle of customers,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. The squads of APR Motorsport, Phoenix Racing and Yaco Racing have been relying on the GT3 sports car made by Audi for many years. The Audi Sport customer racing teams are preparing for a tough battle. The runners-up trailing the winners by 1.4 seconds were Ian Baas/Marc Basseng/René Rast/Frank Stippler. Despite 65 percent of each lap having been driven at full throttle the R8 GRAND-AM that is powered by a production-derived 5.2-liter V10 FSI engine was running flawlessly on the notorious oval track for a whole day and night. With the class victory at Daytona Audi, under factory commitments or in cooperation with its customers, has now won the world’s most important 24-hour races. The latest evolution of the Audi R8 GRAND-AM experienced a successful baptism of fire in the toughest GRAND-AM race of the year. All four of the updated customer sport race cars for the United States were running with technical perfection all the way up to the finish of the 24-hour race. Each of the three race teams had the lead at least once and a chance of clinching victory until the very end.
