Nombre del estudiante: Firma del estudiante: Firma del padre/madre: Fecha: Alto High School Handbook 3 Notice Regarding Directory Information and Parent’s Response Regarding Release of Student Information State law requires the district to give you the following information: Certain information about district students is considered directory information and will be released to anyone who follows the procedures for requesting the information unless the parent or guardian objects to the release of the directory information about the student. If you do not want Alto High School to disclose directory information from your child’s education records without your prior written consent, you must notify the district in writing within ten school days of your child’s first day of instruction for this school year. This means that the district must give certain personal information (called “directory information”) about your child to any person who requests it, unless you have told the district in writing not to do so. The district is providing you the following form so you can communicate your wishes about these issues. [See Objecting to the Release of Directory Information in the Alto High School’s Student Handbook for more information.] Alto ISD has designated the following information as directory information: Student’s name, Address, Telephone listing, E-mail address, Photograph, Date and place of birth, Major field of study, Degrees, honors, and awards received, Dates of attendance, Grade level, Most recent school previously attended, Participation in officially recognized activities and sports, Weight and height, if a member of an athletic team, Enrollment status, Student identification numbers or identifiers that cannot be used alone to gain access to electronic education records. Park* During the 1890s and early 1900s a debate of considerable proportions raged in the public press, on college campuses. and in educational, literary, and sporting journals over the game of “American Football.”1 The events and incidents, discussions and diatribes which led up to and surrounded what has come to be known as “the football crisis of 1905-06” have been exam- ined by several historians. A number of years ago Moore called the period between 1893 and 1913 “football’s ugly decades” and maintaned that the game reached its nadir in 1905. Lewis has suggested, however. that the American form of the game was so firmly entrenched that in spite of extensive agitation its banishment from college campuses was never a serious threat. More recently Smith has argued that evidence, specifically that concerning developments at Harvard and Columbia. indicates that the future of American intercollegiate football was briefly in jeopardy.2 The old Football Rules Com- mittee was ultimately forced to relinquish its more or less monopolistic hold on the game and new rules were imposed for the 1906 football season.     Palo Alto High School STUDENT-ATHLETE HANDBOOK 2018-2019 PALO ALTO HIGH SCHOOL 50 Embarcadero Road Palo Alto, California 94301 (650) 329-3701 INTRODUCTION The Palo Alto High School Athletics Handbook is a reference guide for coaches, student-athletes and parents, concerning the policies that govern interscholastic athletics at Palo Alto High School. The coach of an athletic team reports to the Athletic Director and is primarily responsible for the compliance by his/her squad members to the rules, regulations, and policies governing athletics at Palo Alto High School. The Athletic Director will administer these rules and regulations as they relate to inter-squad and inter-coach relationships. Sound reasoning, good judgment, and adherence to the school's core values will be the standard by which situations outside these stated rules and regulations are determined and evaluated. Interscholastic athletics is a voluntary program. Students are not obligated to participate and participation is not required for graduation. Thus, competition in high school athletics is a privilege and not a right. Accompanying this privilege is the responsibility to conform to standards established for the high school athletic program. This privilege may be revoked if the athlete fails or refuses to comply with the rules.     Hi all, I hope everyone is having a restful and enjoyable summer. I am excited to start my new role as Athletic Director and would like to welcome you back to campus for another exciting year of Viking athletics. Our sports program has a long history of excellence that provides Paly student athletes with opportunities to compete at the highest level while also learning sportsmanship, honesty, dedication, and teamwork. We look forward to continuing that tradition this year. The fall season tryouts will officially begin August 14, 2015. Student athletes need to have a physical examination by a licensed physician prior to participating in tryouts. Physicals are valid through the entire school year—which means that one physical during the summer will suffice for all three sports seasons. We use an online processing system (APPRYSE) for physicals and all physicals must be completed using the APPRYSE form. Please visit http://paly.net/athletics for more information and APPRYSE registration instructions. For information regarding tryout information please contact the coach directly. A list of fall coaches is provided below. Paly is about to begin an exciting building program to replace our aging indoor sports’ facilities. Soon, construction crews will demolish our 85-year-old gym and begin an 18- month project to build a world-class athletic complex with two gyms, a new weight room, locker rooms, classrooms and training facilities. Every effort is being made to mitigate the disruption the construction may cause as we eagerly anticipate the completion of the new facilities.
