Group G permutations • Genk are through and need a point to win the group. • Basel will be through with a draw due to their superior head-to-head record over Videoton (away goals). They would win the group with a victory due to their superior head-to-head record over Genk. They can even afford to draw or lose provided Videoton do not win. • Videoton FC will be through if they win and Basel lose. • Sporting Clube de Portugal are out. Previous meetings • Basel struck back to earn a 2-2 draw as the sides met for the first time in European competition on matchday two. Benjamin De Ceulaer and Jelle Vossen put Genk 2-0 up before the break, but Marco Streller struck twice in the closing 20 minutes for the hosts. • Genk's record in five games against Swiss clubs is W3 D1 L1 (W2 D0 L0 at home – W1 D1 L1 away). Both of those home games ended 2-0. • Basel's five games against Belgian sides have also ended W3 D1 L1 (W2 D1 L0 at home – W1 D0 L1 in Belgium). • Genk have already ended one Swiss side's UEFA Europa League campaign this season, overcoming FC Luzern in the play-offs with a 2-0 home win following a 2-1 away defeat. Match background • Unbeaten in Group G, Genk have won all four of their European home games this season – scoring at least twice in each. They are unbeaten in nine UEFA home games all together (W6 D3) since a 3-0 loss to FC Porto in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League play-offs. • Basel have recovered from a slow start in Group G: having picked up just two points from their first three games, they have taken a maximum six from the most recent two. • Basel have not won in their last three UEFA away games (a draw and two defeats) following a 1-0 win at Molde FK in this season's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. Team facts • This could be Basel striker Alexander Frei's last game in UEFA competition. Switzerland's 42-goal all-time top scorer has announced he will hang up his boots in June. • Basel midfielder Yapo Gilles Yapi played in Belgium for KSK Beveren from 2001 to 2004. • Genk's coach since August 2012 has been Dutchman Mario Been, most famous for his work as a midfielder – and then coach – with Feyenoord and their satellite club SBV Excelsior. He led NEC Nijmegen through the group stage of the 2008/09 UEFA Cup, but lost out to KAA Gent in the 2010/11 play-offs when he was coaching Feyenoord. • Basel dismissed German coach Heiko Vogel on 15 October with the club lying fourth in the ten-team Swiss table, immediately installing Murat Yakin as his replacement. • Yakin, the older brother of fellow former Swiss international Hakan Yakin, represented Grasshopper Club, VfB Stuttgart, Fenerbahçe SK and 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The 49-times capped defender enjoyed his best seasons as captain of Basel, leading them to three league titles and two Swiss Cups. He later coached FC Concordia Basel, FC Thun and FC Luzern.
