Rezidor Announces Radisson Blu Hotels in Dortmund and Bremen, Germany Rezidor announces Radisson Blu hotels in Dortmund and Bremen, Germany November 16, 2012 The Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the fastest growing hotel companies worldwide and a member of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, announces two new Radisson Blu hotels in Germany. Both are existing properties – the Radisson Blu Hotel Dortmund featuring 190 rooms will be re-branded in January 2013; the Radisson Blu Hotel Bremen (235 rooms) will follow in June 2013. The hotels will be softly renovated over a period of 18 months. “We are delighted to further strengthen our long term cooperation with our business partner Pandox, owner of both properties. At the same time, we grow our portfolio in Germany to 53 hotels in operation and under development, and underline the importance this home market has for us”, said Kurt Ritter, President & CEO of Rezidor. The Radisson Blu Hotel Dortmund is located in the city’s peripheral area; close to the Westfalen soccer stadium and the fair and exhibition centre Westfalenhalle. The site enjoys easy motorway access and is 10 km away from the airport and 3 km from Dortmund downtown. All 190 guest rooms – among them 5 junior suites – are equipped with Radisson Blu signature services like free high speed internet access. The First Class hotel also comprises 2 restaurants and 1 bar, 15 event rooms spreading over 1,350 sqm, a wellness area including gym, indoor pool, sauna & solarium, and a parking. Dortmund is part of Western Germany’s Ruhr area, and has 600,000 inhabitants. The city enjoys a colorful way of life, lots of green space, a variety of museums and theatres, and world-class soccer. For guests who want to experience the 150-year industrial history of the Ruhr area, Dortmund is a good place to start: The city lies directly on the 300 km long “Route of Industrial Culture” which links up art & cultural events in engine rooms, collieries, head frames and blast furnaces. The Radisson Blu Hotel Bremen is located on the famous Böttcherstraße, Bremen’s historic shopping street in the heart of the old town. Also the port and many of the city’s well-known companies lie close to the hotel. The exhibition centre, motorways and airport are just a few kilometers away. The property offers 235 rooms – among them 15 junior suites – and also features 2 restaurants, 1 bar, 14 meeting rooms over a surface of 740 sqm, a wellness area including gym, indoor pool, sauna & solarium, and a parking. Bremen is a commercial and industrial city with 500,000 inhabitants in Northern Germany, and has a major port on the river Weser. The old city centre is part of the UNESCO World Heritage, and offers outstanding monuments like the Marketplace and Town Hall. Bremen’s central business district close to the hotel hosts many globally known companies like Kraft Foods, Lufthansa, Airbus, and Siemens. • Hanseatic League, 1370
Hanseatic League, 1370 “The lust for buying and selling was strong in their blood, and, under the most fearful conditions of hardship and danger, they went their weary way over the ill-conditioned roads to convey their merchandise from place to place, braving the dangers of pillage and death at the hands of the various Barons and powerful dignitaries of the Church—for their holy calling did not make the latter any less eager for temporal riches.” —Elizabeth Gee Nash, The Hansa: Its History and Romance Dear Delegates, It is with great excitement and pleasure that I welcome everyone to the Hanseatic League! My name is Bob Zhao. I am a sophomore studying Economics and Computer Science, and I will be directing the Hanseatic League committee over the course of the weekend. I’m originally from Memphis, Tennessee, and have been involved with Model UN since my freshman year of high school. After attending WUMUNS my freshman year, I was absolutely hooked, and it became the conference I most looked forward to every year afterward. I am so excited to relive one of my favorite parts of high school with you all and to explore this fascinating period of history throughout the three days of WUMUNS XI. The Hanseatic League is one of the earliest and most important, yet least known, economic unions in European history, the influence of which can be seen in the trade confederations of Renaissance Italy, the rise of the German states in the late 1800s, and even the modern European Union. Many of the economic idiosyncrasies of the modern European system can be traced back to the formative years of the Hanseatic League, which, in addition to being an important economic collective in continental Europe, was an extremely influential political force in the pre-Reformation golden years of the Holy Roman Empire.
