I have to say that the past year and a half seems like it went by in the blink of an eye. It is truly has been an honor to be the PBA President and I thank you for the opportunity. Although my tenure is almost over, the work of the PBA is far from over as we continue to strive to provide value to our business members and to support our community. So, this article will be the first of my efforts to relay the benefits of membership to all current, past and prospective members of the PBA. I want to use this space in this year’s directory to go over the benefits of being a member of the PBA. As you will see, there are many benefits of membership, even if Jerry Nicklow you cannot make any of the meetings or events, you will get the value from the PBA President investment you make for the membership dues. The value of a PBA membership is extensive and cannot be completely explained within the limitations of this article. But I can shed light on of a few of the value added benefits below. The first three items on this list alone are well worth the investment of membership in the PBA. 1) Updated Website: One big project that we released a little over a year ago is our new and improved website at www.PasadenaBusinessAssociation.com. The site adds value for our members in several ways. Here is a small sample of the benefits of the site: A. It allows our members to create a nice custom business listing, with links to your website, Facebook, and Twitter pages if applicable. You can also add your logo, photos, and add you own Shop Local offer for website visitors. This type of web listing can easily cost $25 to $50 per month with other web listing vendors. But for the PBA, it is included in your annual membership, which depending on the size of your business, is $120, $150 or $200 annually. B. It enables the PBA to quickly communicate with our members. The site has an integrated CRM (Customer Relationship Management) System. This system allows us to quickly and easily communicate with our members. C. It has an integrated blog. The PBA will write articles for the blog to update the member of the happenings of the PBA. As a PBA member, you are also able to submit blogs that will be published on our site for the benefit of our members. D. It has event listing and registration functionality. It allows for easy event registration and lists folks that are registered for events so you can see in advance who will be attending so you can prepare for your networking. 2) Membership Directory: Each year, the PBA prints and distributes about 5,000 directories throughout the community. 3) Members tend to utilize other members products and services: This is probably one of the biggest benefits of membership. If you talk to any of the members, either at a meeting or by calling them just to talk, they will tell you that they do 8 2017-18 PBA Membership Directory & Community Guide 2017 President’s Message business with other members. There is a sense of pride in the PBA that we love to do business with our members. I myself, have a long list of member businesses that I can name that I have done business with both personally and professionally. 4) Leads Groups: The PBA has not one, but two separate category exclusive leads groups. These groups each meet every other Tuesday and are a great way to have a group of industry leaders working together to make each other’s businesses more successful. 5) Monthly Membership Meetings: Our Monthly membership meetings are held the first Wednesday of every Month (except July) at one of our member restaurants or event venues. These events are well attended with between 60 and 80 people. We strive to provide valuable information to our members with a variety of speakers. The lunch meetings also are great for networking. 6) Community Support and Events: The PBA supports our community in several ways, such as: A Childs Christmas, PBA Scholarships to local students, with an annual fundraiser, Annual Golf Tournament, Annual Crab Feast, PBA Christmas Tree Lighting, PBA Sharing and Caring Parade, Taste of Pasadena, Veterans Day Ceremony, and more! 7) Annual Trade Show: The PBA hosts a trade show each October that showcases the participating members. The event draws between 500 and 700 community members 8) Annual Legislative Day in Annapolis: Members are invited to spend part of the day with our local legislators to express our opinions and concerns and sit in on a legislative session. 9) Ribbon Cuttings: Members are eligible to host a ribbon cutting for a grand opening, special anniversary, remodel re opening, etc. for their business. 10) Networking Mixers: The PBA has several mixers throughout the year held at member venues which are great for networking and showing off the host venue. 11) What’s Next? We are always looking for ideas and ways to add value for our members. If you have any ideas that are different, or ideas that enhance what we are already doing, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]. So as I finish out m term as president, my goal is to have a team work together to come up with a marketing plan so we can better communicate the benefits of being a PBA member, even if the member cannot attend any of the events or meetings. If you are already a member, thank you. If you are not a member, what is holding you back? If you would like to go into any of the above items in any more detail, please call me directly at 410-647-1111 and I will be happy to go over the benefits with you. Thank you and let’s work together to finish this year strong!
