MN PRODUCTION NEWS Minneapolis-based production company Werc Werk Works (headed by Elizabeth Redleaf and Christine Walker) premiered its first film LIFE DURING WARTIME on September 3rd at the 66th Venice International Film LIFE DURING WARTIME, directed by Festival.The film was written and Todd Solondz, won Best Screenplay directed by Todd Solondz as a sequel to at the Venice Int'l Film Festival. his film HAPPINESS (1998) and stars Ally Sheedy, Allison Janney and Shirley Henderson. Solondz won an "Osella" for Best Screenplay at the festival. The film had its North American premiere on September 14th at the Toronto International Film Festival. Locations in Minnesota and Illinois are under consideration. The drama STUCK BETWEEN STATIONS begins shooting in the Twin Cities on October 2nd. The film is directed and produced by filmmaker Brady Kiernan and co-written by Minneapolis natives Sam Rosen and Nat Bennett. Rosen will also star in the film, which is about former high school classmates who reunite by chance during a chaotic night in Minneapolis. Josh Hartnett and Michael Imperioli (THE SOPRANOS) are part of the supporting cast. Minnesota-made movies hit the big screen this month. Following a red-carpet premiere at the State Theatre in Minneapolis on Thursday, October 1st, the comedy NOBODY, directed by Rob Perez and starring Sam Rosen, will play at Kerasotes Block E Stadium Theatre beginning Friday, October 2nd. Also opening on October 2nd is the latest Coen Brothers feature A SERIOUS MAN (filmed entirely in the Twin Cities) at the Uptown Theatre in Minneapolis. Expect a packed house! And the local juggernaut INTO TEMPTATION, written and directed by Patrick Coyle, enters its fifth week playing at The Lagoon Cinema in Minneapolis. "Ana's Playground", a short film written and directed by Eric Howell, won "Best Short Film" and "Best of Fest" at the inaugural Norwich Film Festival in Norwich, England. The short went on to make its official world debut at the Calgary International Film Festival at the Globe Theatre on Friday, September 25th as part of the festival's "Anything but Ordinary" collection of internationally produced short films. Set in a non-specific, war-torn country, Ana's Playground is an examination of children living and dying in a world of armed combat. The film features an all-Minnesotan cast and producers Marsha Trainer and Jillian Nodland worked hard to pull together and organize resources to shoot the film in one cold November week in the Twin Cities. The first workshop, Phantastic Promotion for Philm, will be hosted by Matt Osterman, writer and director of the supernatural feature PHASMA EX MACHINA. The discussion will focus on the PHASMA EX MACHINA many new tools filmmakers can use to build an audience and find funders for their film long before it is released. PHASMA was invited to IFP NY's Independent Filmmaker Lab in June and returned to New York in September for the Film Forum at Independent Film Week.
