PURE JOY Toward the Hole OCTOBER 1, 2018 Tony Finau Ken Tanigawa watches his winning putt roll PURE JOY toward the hole. en Tanigawa broke into the winner’s circle on Sunday K in dramatic fashion, playing one of the most famous holes in golf, the 18th at Pebble Beach. Tanigawa dropped a 35-foot putt for eagle on the closing hole to capture the Pure Insurance Championship, win #1 for the PGA Tour Champions rookie. "Just, wow!" he said. "To be able to eagle the last hole, just unreal." Tanigawa, 50, made the putt with a Sigma G Anser that he put back into his bag last week, the same putter he used to finish near the top at Champions qualifying school last year. The 16th annual event, which is hosted by the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, will be televised internationally on Golf Channel. The PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee is the only event of its kind where 78 First Tee teenagers from across the country are paired up with 78 PGA TOUR Champions players and 156 amateurs during an official PGA TOUR Champions tournament. Participants were selected by a national panel of judges based on their understanding and application of the values and life skills learned through First Tee’s programs, as well as their playing ability.
