  • Franz Schubert Written and Narrated by Jeremy Siepmann with Tom George As Schubert
LIFE AND WORKS Franz Schubert Written and narrated by Jeremy Siepmann with Tom George as Schubert 8.558135–38 Life and Works: Franz Schubert Preface If music is ‘about’ anything, it’s about life. No other medium can so quickly or more comprehensively lay bare the very soul of those who make or compose it. Biographies confined to the limitations of text are therefore at a serious disadvantage when it comes to the lives of composers. Only by combining verbal language with the music itself can one hope to achieve a fully rounded portrait. In the present series, the words of composers and their contemporaries are brought to life by distinguished actors in a narrative liberally spiced with musical illustrations. Unlike the standard audio portrait, the music is not used here simply for purposes of illustration within a basically narrative context. Thus we often hear very substantial chunks, and in several cases whole movements, which may be felt by some to ‘interrupt’ the story; but as its title implies the series is not just about the lives of the great composers, it is also an exploration of their works. Dismemberment of these for ‘theatrical’ effect would thus be almost sacrilegious! Likewise, the booklet is more than a complementary appendage and may be read independently, with no loss of interest or connection. ------ ~!\'(~ _______ ,.____ _ n-~- ,- r••-, -- - PROGRAM SCHEDULE WNIB 97.1 fm January, 1972 The Advent Model 201 Tape Deck is, to our way of thinking, the ideal source for playing music in the the home. It combines the important characteristics of a high-performance open-reel tape recorder with the convenience of cassettes. The Advent Advent Model Model 201 will make recordings that are indistinguishable from most source material, including the best 201 Tape stereo records and FM broadcasts. Of equal importance, the Model 201 realizes the full potential of the new "Dolbyized" commercially recorded cassettes, the most significant source Deck of recorded music since the introduc tion of the stereo disc. The best of the "Dolbyized" pre-recorded cas settes are easily' the equivalent of the best disc recordings, and the number of releases will be continually in creasing. The Model 201 has the ruggedness and day-to-day operating dependability of the best home recorders, and will maintain its original performance over long and constant use. $280, Beverly Near North Morton Grove Oak Park 2035 W. 95 th 48 E. Denn es gehet dem Menschen wie dem Vieh; For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth wie dies stirbt, so stirbt er auch; beasts, as the one dieth, so dieth the other; und haben alle einerlei Odem; yea, they have all one breath; und der Mensch hat nichts mehr denn das Vieh: so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: denn es ist alles eitel. for all is vanity. Es fährt alles an einem Ort; es ist alles von All go unto one place; all are of the dust Staub gemacht, und wird wieder zu Staub. and all turn to dust again. Wer weiß, ob der Geist des Menschen aufwärts Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, fahre, und der Odem des Viehes unterwärts and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to unter die Erde fahre? the earth? Darum sahe ich, daß nichts bessers ist, denn Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, daß der Mensch fröhlich sei in seiner Arbeit, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; denn das ist sein Teil.
