MY50 CHICAGO HISTORY TENDS TO REPEAT 2019-20 Let’s start with the facts: The Chicago Wolves have dropped five of their last six games. It has been TALE OF THE TAPE a fortnight nobody has enjoyed. But it’s times like these when it’s important to note that tough REGULAR-SEASON SERIES stretches don’t seem to last for the Wolves. 1-0-0-1 Milwaukee | 1-1-0-0 Chicago LAST MEETING Take last year, for example. From Nov. 24 to Dec. 2, the Wolves went 0-4-1-0 and saw their record drop Nov. 7, 2019 to 10-9-2-1. In their next game, a Dec. 5 visit to Iowa, the Wolves fell behind 3-0. But Rocky Thompson’s squad clawed back and claimed a 4-3 overtime victory on a Nic Hague goal. That triggered a six-game winning streak and a 10-0-1-0 stretch that pointed the Wolves on their way to the Central Division title and (eventually) the Calder Cup Finals. 8-3-2-1 7-8-1-0 Need more historical evidence? In 2017-18, Thompson’s first season at the helm, the Wolves went L-L- L-L-L-SOL-OTL-OTL-W-L-OTL-L from Nov. 8 to Dec. 2. When the Wolves took to the ice on Dec. 6 against TOP SCORERS San Diego, they owned the worst record in the league at 5-11-4-1 (.375).

    A staple in the New York region and an emerging program on the national stage, the Manhattanville College Athletic Department continues to bolster its reputation as a program on the rise in all areas: athletic achievement, academic success and overall participation. More than 300 Valiant student-athletes (nearly 20 percent of the student body) took part in intercollegiate athletics during the 2012-13 school year, showcasing the continued and rapid growth of athletics at Manhattanville. With women’s golf beginning play as a varsity sport last year, the program now sponsors 20 competitive intercollegiate teams – including eight teams that have been established or re-established in the last six years alone. And the teams at Manhattanville have proved themselves more than able to hold their own in an increasingly competitive athletic landscape. Fourteen of the school’s 20 intercollegiate programs earned berths in their respective conference championships last year, while both men’s hockey and women’s hockey teams received national rankings over the course of the year. On an individual level, many Valiant student-athletes were honored in 2012-13 as well. Field hockey junior Amanda DeChent was named the program’s fi rst-ever NFHCA All-American, giving Manhattanville at least one All-America selection in 13 of the last 14 years, while senior high jumper Bill Motherway was crowned the school’s fi rst champion at the MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Manhattanville also boasted two Freedom Conference Players of the Year to go with 45 combined All-Conference honorees. In addition, nearly 40 former Valiants have gone on to play their sport professionally either domestically or overseas in recent years, including former baseball standout Dan Fiorito ’12, who signed a deal with the New York Yankees in August 2012.

Operational and Policy Governance are clearly understood. The Board of Directors and Members have adapted well. Again, I stress how pleased I am to work with a team striving to improve our organization and game. The Board recognizes that hockey is a passion with high expectations from our country. The mandatory Initiation Program is experiencing some concern in a few areas; however, I have been impressed with the progress and attitude of the Members actively involved in promoting the value of this program. It is pleasant to receive compliments supporting the Board for this initiative. It is difficult to be critical of a program that works on improvement and develops skills as well as incorporating fun in the game.
