(If the answers be in the affirmative, then insert the particulars as to its surviving parents’ irremovability under No.1 in the first part of this form) Sect.3 1.Is the pauper a married woman deserted by her husband? 2.Has she since resided three years in the union so as to render her irremovable? And if so, state the particulars of such residence under No.1 in the first part of this form OBSERVATIONS Sarah Jones saith I am 73 years old – I am the Widow of William Jones – he was an acknowledged parishioner of St Winnow having obtained a settlement therein by Hiring & Service with the late Mr. Hugo of Trewall in that Parish – I have resided within Bodmin Union since 1815 with the exception of Five years, from 1851 to 1856 when I lived in the parish of Menheniot with my daughter ‐ & wholly supported myself by labour – I have not done any act to gain a settlement for myself. I am now chargeable to Lostwithiel. I certify that the foregoing is a true Statement of the Grounds of Irremovability of the above‐ mentioned Pauper so far as I have been able to ascertain the facts. Dated this third day of December 1863 H.H. Words in bold italics inserted into printed document Source: LDS Film 1596594 image 73; original document CRO Ref: DDP128/13/4/95 18th March 1864 Complaint of Chargeability (Henry Ham Kidd re Sarah Jones) Borough of The Complaint of Henry Ham Kidd one of the Overseers of the Poor of the Lostwithiel Parish of Lostwithiel within the Borough of Lostwithiel in the said County of in Cornwall Cornwall, made on behalf of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of (TO WIT) the said Parish of Lostwithiel and with their assent, unto Charles Row Esquire and John Bower Clerk two of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said County of Borough at the Guild Hall within and for in the said County of the same this 18th day of March in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and sixty four who saith: That Sarah Jones Widow hath lately come to inhabit and is now inhabiting in the said Parish of Lostwithiel not having gained a Legal Settlement there, nor produced any Certificate acknowledging her to be settled elsewhere, and that the said Sarah Jones is now actually chargeable to, and is now receiving Relief from, the said Parish of Lostwithiel the said Sarah Jones not having become chargeable in respect of Relief made necessary by Sickness or Accident, and that the said Sarah Jones hath not resided in the said Parish of Lostwithiel for Five Three Years next preceding the Application now made for an Order or Warrant for the Removal of the said Sarah Jones The said Henry Ham Kidd on behalf of the said Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Lostwithiel and with their assent, therefore prays that the said Sarah Jones may be examined as to the place of her Legal Settlement, and that an Order or Warrant may be granted for her Removal to the Parish of St Winnow in the said County of Cornwall, as the place of her Legal Settlement, and further to be dealt with according to Law. Words in bold italics inserted into printed document Source: LDS Film 1596594 image 87; original document CRO Ref: DDP128/13/4/101 18th March 1864 Examination (Sarah Jones) Borough of The Examination of Sarah Jones Widow now residing in the Parish of Lostwithiel Lostwithiel within the said Borough touching the place of her last legal in Cornwall settlement taken upon oath before me Charles Row Esquire One of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace for the Borough aforesaid, and acting for the Borough in which the said Parish of Lostwithiel is situate, this 18th day of March in the year of our Lord 1864 upon a certain complaint of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Lostwithiel, that the said Sarah Jones hath come to inhabit and is now inhabiting in the said Parish of Lostwithiel not having gained a legal settlement there nor having produced any certificate acknowledging her to be settled elsewhere, and that the said Sarah Jones is now actually chargeable to and in receipt of relief from the said parish of Lostwithiel; the said Sarah Jones being by reason of sickness and infirmity unable to be brought up to the Petty Sessions to be examined as to her settlement The said Sarah Jones upon her oath saith as follows I am the widow of William Jones. I am in the 73rd year of my age. I was born as I have heard & believe in the parish of Morwenstow. At the age of 23 I married my late husband at Stonehouse in the County of Devon.
