February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES. Specifically, the study looked at Medic, Marcus Welby, Ben Casey, Emergency, Dr. Kildare (all pre-ADA), and ER, Grey’s Anatomy, China Beach, Chicago Hope, Mercy, and Becker (all post-ADA) to determine whether the ADA served as a turning point in the representation of people with disabilities on medical dramas from 1954 to 2014. A content analysis was conducted to investigate the occurrence of potentially stereotypical communication patterns and behaviors among characters with disabilities and those who interact with them as well as the prevalence of common disability stereotypes throughout the years studied.

  • WARRIOR WOMEN by Michael Ventura Psychology Today Nov-Dec 1998
WARRIOR WOMEN By Michael Ventura Psychology Today Nov-Dec 1998 Why are tv shows like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “La Femme Nikita” and “Xena: Warrior Princess” so popular, especially among teens? You can gauge the public's true feeling by what its entertainment is trying to salve. Television's weekly one-hour shows, known in the trade as "episodics," constitute the bulk of America's exposure to serious drama. These series mostly depict cops, doctors and lawyers--professions on the gritty interface between working citizens and the ruling powers, professions that Americans are leery of in real life. We watch to reassure ourselves that the representatives of Officialdom can be depended upon in a pinch. We need to be reassured; deep down, we harbor the nasty notion that nobody's really looking out for us. These shows soothe our fears. Somebody cares. The heart of society is good, after all. I've dubbed these dramas the Priest-and-Nun Shows: characters agonize earnestly and endlessly over moral choices and their own worthiness. ER, Chicago Hope: priests and nuns with stethoscopes. NYPD Blue, Homicide: Life on the Streets: priests and nuns with guns. Law and Order, The Practice: priests and nuns with briefcases. The X-Files: a priest and nun (who, unlike most of the other "clerics," seem to be celibate) fight the Dark Powers, for the truth must be out there somewhere--a moral conviction if ever there was one. Throw in Baywatch: naked priests and nuns. And Dawson's Creek: the teen novitiate hour. Such fare speaks of a people unsure of what it means to be good or bad.

When the first medical dramas were broadcasted, the main characters were good, peaceful, intelligent, competent, empathic, and successful physicians. One of the most famous, even outside the US, was Marcus Welby M.D. (1969-1976) of David Victor –which this year marks 50 years since its first emission. This depiction began to change in the mid-1990s. While maintaining the over positive image of medical doctors, TV series started to put more emphasis on their negative characteristics and difficulties in their interpersonal relationships, such asER (TV) by Michael Crichton (United States) and House MD (TV) by David Shore (United States). In these series, physicians were portrayed as arrogant, greedy, and adulterous, and their diagnostic and therapeutic errors were exposed. The last two series are The Good Doctor (TV) by David Shore (United States), with a resident of surgery with autism and Savant syndrome, and The Resident (TV) by Amy Holden Jones, Hayley Schore and Roshan Sethi (United States), where serious institutional problems appear.
