    2013-14 VIRGINIA TECH BASKETBALL Head Coach James Johnson 2013-14 VIRGINIA TECH BASKETBALL A MESSAGE TO TECH SUPPORTERS This is a very exciting time for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team. We look forward to a season that will bring in new faces and new challenges. It should be a season of excitement and of improvement. The thing I have noticed about this group through the summer and the preseason is their willingness to work. I stated often last season that I never had to coach effort and this season, that same spirit has been evident since day one. This group of players shows up ready to do their best, regardless of whether it’s on the court, in the weight room or in the classroom. They are always ready to take a step forward. During the last year, we have made very substantial strides in shaping this program into a group that makes this University proud. We have become more involved in campus and community projects and have comported ourselves in a manner expected of Virginia Tech students and student-athletes. We strive to make this team YOUR team. It has meant so much to the team and me that you stop us on the street, in restaurants and out in public and greet us all so warmly. I believe this partnership has gotten off to a wonderful start and will only grow stronger. It is with great honor that we help your team to be at its very best through our comprehensive training and team-building program. The Impact Basketball Team Training Program will give your players a chance to train together in a focused environment with demanding on-court offensive and defensive skill training along with intense off-court strength and conditioning training. The experienced Impact Basketball staff will provide the team with a truly unique bonding experience through training and competition, as well as off-court team building activities. Designated team practice times and live games against high-level American players, including NBA players, provide teams with an opportunity to prepare for their upcoming competition while also developing individually. Each team’s program will be completely customized to fit their schedule, with direct consultation from the team’s coaching staff and management. We will integrate any and all concepts that the coaching staff would like to implement and focus the training on areas that the team’s coaches have deemed deficient. Our incorporation of off-site training and team-building exercises make this a one-of-a-kind opportunity for team and individual development. The Wolverines have not lost to Tubby Smith’s team since February, 2008 when Michigan was struggling mightily through that distant 10-22 season. Since then, we have owned Minnesota both home and away and tonight is a chance to continue that dominance as they come in ranked #19. Coming off a close home victory against lowly Iowa, the Gophers (stress the “o” again) were our allies in Indianapolis last season as we watched and cheered them to the Big Ten Championship game. But tonight is much different. Let’s cheer the Wolverines on to their first win over a ranked opponent this season. GO BLUE!!!
