Thursday 31 May 2012 This Tuesday at the Library Media Release Library News Release Date: Thursday 31 May 2012 This Tuesday at the library there will be story time and craft activities from 11.00am – 12.00pm. Give the library a call on 6329 8220 for bookings or enquiries. There are some great new biographies on display this week, so be sure to drop in and check them out. Titles include; Life Without the Boring Bits by Colleen McCullough, They Called Him Boy (Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton) by Peter Fenton, and The Ties That Bind (six journeys of a lifetime) by Julietta Jameson. Here are some great new additions on the shelves this week for younger borrowers: The Muppets is the hilarious new Movie from Walt Disney Studios ; the first Muppets theatrical release in 12 years. The film is directed by James Bobin and stars Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper and Rashida Jones. While on vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary, and friend Mary uncover the diabolical plot of a greedy oil millionaire to destroy the Muppet Theatre. Now, the Muppet-loving trio must reunite Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and their friends to stage the greatest Muppet telethon ever and save their beloved theatre. With an all-star celebrity cast, this is a very entertaining adventure for the whole family. The Hunger Games Trilogy is the best selling series written by American author Suzanne Collins. In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death – televised for all of Panem to see. Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps in to take her place in the Hunger Games. If she is to survive, she must weigh survival against humanity and life against love. Totally unputdownable, this series is a must for any young adult's bookshelf. The trilogy is set to find a whole new legion of fans with the release of the Gary Ross-directed film, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson, so now is the perfect time to immerse yourself in these action-packed adventures. Oberon Council's Public Library is located on the corner of Dart and Fleming Streets one block from the main street. It is open from 10.00am until 6.00pm Monday to Friday and from 10.00am until 2.00pm on Saturday. ENDS .

  • The Muppets (2011
The Muppets (2011. Comedy. Rated PG. Directed by James Bobin) A Muppet fanatic and two humans in a budding relationship mobilize the Muppets, now scattered all over the world, to help save the Muppets’ beloved theater from being torn down. Songs, laughter tears ensue. Starring Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Steve Whitmire, Eric Jacobsen, David Goelz, Bill Barretta. The scenes of Kermit and friends driving across the country are in Tahoe (standing in for the snowy Rocky Mountains) and rural Lincoln in Western Placer County along Wise Road and various cross streets (standing in as the Midwest). Notice the beautiful, green fields along the roadways. \ Some of the road views can be seen from inside Kermit’s car, looking out. Other scenes feature the exterior of the car driving down county roads. The Muppets shot here in part because Placer County diverse terrain is a good substitute for many parts of the US; many other productions have done the same. This was the second time Kermit shot in Placer County. He filmed here for a few days in 2006, for a Superbowl commercial for the Ford Escape Hybrid (at Euchre Bar Tail Head/Iron Point near Alta, CA). Phenomenon (1996. Romantic fantasy. Rated PG. Directed by Jon Turteltaub) An amiable ordinary man of modest ambitions in a small town is inexplicably transformed into a genius. Starring John Travolta, Kyra Sedgewick, Forest Whitaker, and Robert Duvall. 90% of this film was shot in around Auburn, CA in 1995. Some of the locations include the Gold Country Fairgrounds, Machado’s Orchards, and various businesses in Old Town Auburn.
