We are fortunate and are still able to enjoy a walk most John Chapter 20 v26 days but appreciate not everyone is in the same situation. For us an unexpected benefit of the current situation is that we have been exploring lots of the less used tracks around and across Blacka Moor, Moor and Houndkirk Moor. We’ve plenty of ideas for new walks within a 5 minutes car journey from church, once lockdown is lifted! Another benefit has been paying much more attention to the progress of spring than usual. The woods are just bursting with life and it is great to hear in the church service chat rooms people swapping details of where to walk to find the best bluebells!

Signs of hope and thanks seen in and around

Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can. John Wesley Thank you Janice Hall for submitting this

Godly Play

Godly Play was introduced to our church at the end of 2019 and we felt so pleased to have such wonderful support from everyone. We had two sessions in 2020 - in January it was Holy Baptism and February Exodus - we had lots more planned but sadly due to Covid 19 we couldn’t continue.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to The Dore Old School Trust (in particular Julie Poyntz who brought us to their attention) as they have generously donated £187 for Godly Play resources - we have purchased our own Holy Family, Jonah and the Whale and some wooden construction bricks. We are currently waiting for these items as they have been delayed because of lockdown.

Also a big thank you to our own Mothers Union via Rosemary Kirkham who have approved £75 for us to buy The Noah’s Ark Set.

All the Godly Play resources are sourced from St Michael’s Workshop - Bowthorpe Community Trust. All are high quality and handcrafted using natural materials. The role of the workshop is to help people with physical and learning disabilities to develop their full potential.

We’d like to also thank a church member Yvonne Blower for their generous donation of £50 for the Nativity Set and also Audrey Lowe for the beautiful shells.

Currently we are looking into the possibility of offering a Godly Play session in May at a future virtual Sunday service. Then when the time is right picking up where we left off.

And finally to the children who have attended our sessions, we have enjoyed sharing Godly Play with you.

God Bless

VE Day remembered

Here are some memories of VE day in Dore

Because we had been a long time in total darkness at night - making sure we were not fined by the warden, our response was to go for light.

We took down all the blackouts from the windows; shone torches into the sky; then, we got together as a community and had a bonfire in the fields (before the houses were built on Mercia Drive and the top of Chatsworth road).

An effigy of Hitler was place on the top and we cheered as it disappeared into the flames. There was great excitement.

Lent Box Appeal for the Furnival Project, For those who make their donations straight into the church bank account, then that should take place during/at the end of Lent as they would normally do. Anyone who would like to pay by bank transfer this year, the account number is 404113 81690701. With regard to those who use the boxes, then they should keep hold of them, and bring them to church as soon as we reopen. I know this may delay when we can pass the money onto the Furnival Project. If I find by the end of April that a significant amount of money has come into the bank account for this purpose, I will pass that on to the project, and pass the remainder when we have counted the boxes themselves. Thank you. Alison Saxton
