It is the main hub of Fiji Airways and its domestic and regional subsidiary Fiji Link. The airport is 10 km from the city of Nadi and 20 km from the city of Lautoka. In 2014, it handled 1,984,898 passengers on international and domestic flights.[1] It handles about 96% of international visitors to Fiji, of which are 85% tourists. Despite being Fiji's main airport, it is quite far away, about 192 kilometers (119 mi) northwest of the country's capital Suva and its airport, Nausori International Airport. Nadi International Airport is Fiji’s main airport and gateway which handles 96 percent (96%) of total annual international passengers and 30 international scheduled flights on a daily basis. Its facilities also include a 12-ton weighbridge and ULD transfer vehicle. With the installation of two cooler and two freezer rooms capable of holding up to LD9 units, perishable goods can be safely and securely stored. Security is properly managed and regularly exercised in simulations which take place on a yearly basis. Emergency Response Staging Nadi International Airport along with Nausori International Airport are the two most likely locations for staging areas in time of emergency response on Viti Levu. Both airports were used as a staging area during TC Winston and are both sites for future operational hubs id required. There are ground handling and airfreight facilities at a domestic terminal provided by Williams and Gosling, Carpenters as well as office locations for of FRCA and Biosecurity Fiji. Page 4.
